Fear has always been one of the primary driving forces for humanity, guiding it to think and advance to remove one fear only to find another. The fear of the dark lead to the use of fire, but then fire itself became something to fear, an all consuming force that needed to be controlled. Even today fear of dying, fear of the unknown, and so many others push people beyond what they might have done with their lives without it.

Of course humanity in its drive to understand their fear gave the terror they felt forms, crafting terrible beasts from their combined terror. These creatures and humanity served a symbiotic purpose. The monsters would bring fear to the world, and in turn humans would advance in their fear, fueling the creatures they had created. This was the balance of the world, the way things were meant to be. Humanity and its Fear.

However as with any such relationship a balance must be maintained. Some humans could be driven to madness, killed, mutilated, and ruined, but the fear that was produced had to be equal to the amount of power to push forward that humanity as a whole had. This balance was tipped by the first creature crafted from the nightmares of humanity, Paranoia Night. The first fear, the longest lasting fear of the dark from which humanity had fled to their caves and fires to avoid. It was from him that other monsters stayed hidden in their hunts, from him that monsters first grew to create fear. But humanity had advanced far from his time, and filled their dark world with light. His aspect was overtaken by other creatures who embodied the newly brightened darkness. His fear could only strike terror into those few places who didn't have the light that burned away his power.

In fear for his existence Paranoia Night began to drive more humans mad then could be balanced, feeding from their fear in order to strengthen himself so that he wouldn't fade. Terror at the end of his existence had driven the first Fear mad, and due to its great power many other beasts of fear and darkness were brought to its side, throwing away the rules of balance. If unchecked these creatures will bring about a new Dark Age, an era of madness and fear that would drive humanity to dust.

Once it became clear that those creatures would not stop their mad rampage those beasts who still held to the balance came together to hatch a plan. They could not simply take shape themselves and war against their mad siblings then the end result would be a world without fear, without a driving force for the humans. Without monsters to bring fear humanity would become stagnated until they died out due to compliance. So a compromise was found.

A select few creatures sought out humans who due to nature or nurture could survive the aspect they served. The bargain was as such, help to defeat those rouge creatures and if they survived to the end they would be granted a single wish by those monsters they contained.

Those who struck the bargains became the Avatars of Fear, able to call power from the creature they served and even take their horrifying forms. But they are few in number, and still human in the end. If they fail the world falls to either madness of mundanity.

The Game

Five select players will create characters given command over some creature that represents an aspect of fear or terror to help battle their rouge siblings to bring an end to the plot of the first creature born from the fear of mankind. These creatures can range anywhere from classic beasts to more modern creations. However the people chosen are special, as for whatever reason they hold some unique immunity from their respective creature.

An example would be how someone with no understanding of death could not fear the Grim Reaper if it was aligned with them. Someone mad enough to think they were immortal could not fear a beast who represented time. So on and so forth. This unique damage allows them to control the beast they are commanded with.

However even with this contract in place no single person is equal to a fully manifested creature of Fear. It will require teamwork and skill between the five chosen to hunt down the creatures before they tip the balance forever in one sides favor.

  • Name: Sergeant Laurence Clairvaux

  • Age: 30

  • Appearance: The one stabbing the other in the gut.

  • Damage: Fears love. He was unable to protect his loved ones. Also fears water, he was drowned nearly 20 times during a hurricane so fiercesome that it drowned half of the army he was in.

  • Personality:

  • Backstory: (Note: Just putting in the main idea first. I'm going to add details for his early years and more.) At first, he was a heartless young man (age 14) that was easily driven to commit acts of violence on behalf of his ambitious lord. He found no difficulty in striking down both hero and villain alike, for him they were no different, they were just bags of meat that needed some tender cutting. That all changed when he gave his heart to a middle-aged prostitute who taught him that there was more to the world than violence. When he offered to marry her, she laughed and said that she was too old for him and that he should get another woman that was younger. (He was half her age.) Yet, nothing could dissaude the stubborn youngster and he swore that someday he'll take her out of this brothel and give her a new life with him.

    • (Age 17) Later he was tasked as a guardsman to guard the wife of his lord (who was about his age and Laurence's lord was about 20 years older than both of them). When the rest of the guards were killed and he was the only one left to guard her, they got to know each other better and became friends until they had to part ways when they reached the castle.

  • Name of Contracted Creature: Undine

Link to information: This one.

Abilities Granted: Controlling Water

Weapon: Water

  • Laurence's weapons of choice: Longsword, Halberd, Pike, Crossbow, Knife.

Altered State: The character would be more sexy and would control water.

(WORK IN PROGRESS: Will get back to this later. I have the main idea at hand, but I need to furnish this with details.)
