The image doesn't illustrate the trope well. Pull or replace?

The pic/caption combo works well enough for me to give this a Keep Until Better Image Suggested vote.

I think it kind of shows half of the trope while explaining the other half in text. It's really kind of bad, but I don't think it's harming the page, and it's at least the right trope.

Very weak keeper.

What's the justification for keeping? My justification for removing would be that there is no indication that these character used to dislike each other or that their relationship underwent a change. It's entirely in the caption. What I see is three characters looking befuddled.

Besides the points mentioned above about the pic/caption combo making it a weak keep, I think it's also part of a response against a late tendency for thread OPs that call for outright pulling half-ok images without so much as offering a replacement suggestion.

[up][up] Two things I disagree with here:

  1. "a late tendency for thread OPs that call for outright pulling half-ok images without so much as offering a replacement suggestion."
    • I think not being able to come up with a replacement should have no impact on the decision if an existing pic should stay or not. It the pic fails our standards then it has to go. When judging an image I always try to imagine how it would have fared in our image suggestion thread (most probably without a caption at that point). I am almost certain that current on Fire-Forged Friends would have failed to gain consensus. But since it is already on the page, users seem to feel differently about the case.
  2. "the pic/caption combo making it a weak keep"
    • If having half the meaning in the image and the other half in the caption becomes a reasonable justification, we could start caption more of our weak suggestions the same way.

True, coming up with a replacement suggestion or not doesn't matter if you think an image should be pulled. However, that requires the image in question to be pullable without replacement, and that's simply not the case here. It's not a strong image, but it confers an important part of the trope while clarifying in the caption.

The argument that it only shows half the trope and tells the rest in the caption isn't directly comparable to other tropes, since "half the trope" doesn't mean the same thing all the time, and it doesn't have the same weight on different tropes. Sometimes the other half makes no sense to get from the image, and sometimes it can easily be inferred, especially accounting for the context of what the trope is named.
