Just yesterday I was thinking about Romero and his bitch-making ways. I hope this doesn't become another Daikatana.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I mean, for what its worth the whole "make you his bitch" thing has been an Old Shame for a decade now, and he's deliberately not using it in the promos for this at all (on the Kickstarter FAQ, his answer to "are you gonna make me your bitch" is just "let's just focus on making a game")
I just added it to the title because I felt like it
Honestly on a more serious note, I dunno about this. Romero hasn't been involved with much at all recently besides the vaporwave Serenity and that furry Farmville clone that's been shut down for about three years now.
And let's be honest, even the furries only gave a shit about that so they could play as a female dog named "John Romero's Bitch"

You're going to be doing this a lot aren't you
No,he's not making anyone his bitch.
New theme music also a boxQuite interesting.
It's off to a relatively slow start, The question is, Has Romero learned form Daikatana?
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.I'm pretty sure Romero's learn from his mistakes. I hope that this new game he's making can help him get back some respect.
I never played Daikatana so I don't hate Romero as much as some of you may do, if at all actually.
I hope this game is a success.
I only know about the infamous ad campaign from this website, because I'm 23.
I remember those days well, I have old issues of PC Gamer with the bloody ad in them.
Hell, honestly, I wouldn't have included the "make you his bitch" thing in the topic title unless he was pulling the old rock star arrogance again.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984Romero definitely seems to have learned. From the above article:
"You know, I never wanted to make you my bitch, not you, not them, not any of the other players and, most importantly, not any of my fans. Up until that ad, I felt I had a great relationship with the gamer and the game development community and that ad changed everything... I regret it and I apologize for it."
"I didn't [stop it] and I'm sorry for that,"

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.For whatever faults you may want to assign Romero, yeah, he owns his mistake with that ad, and he does seem more humble than he was in the Ion Storm days. I mean, when your name is front and center on one of your industry's biggest fiascoes, one that's practically a how-to primer on what not to do during development, you have to develop a heaping helping of humility if you want to keep going in said industry.
That said, for all that his arrogance was a bit over the top back then, I can think of a few other traits (ones like his mercurial nature - how many engine shifts did the game get?) that would be more important to have tamed if this is to turn out well.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. He's been quietly involved with mobile stuff in the last few years, working with his wife Brenda Romero, nee Brathwaite, who has a long history as a dev herself. And the feeling I got from having hung around IGDA-connected circles in the past is that his peers have mostly let Daikatana rest in the past other than as a cautionary tale to be learned from...and they are a very reputation-oriented bunch, such that if you tank your respect with them, they won't want to work with you again and will tell other people as much.
So what you're saying is by having them break their patterns in his case, he made them his bitch.
That makes no sense as a response even as a joke. :P
It vaguely does!
John Romero is about to make you his pitch.

...that's so perfect...
Looks like Romero just put out another new Doom level after the one he did last year
I just want to clarify, I know the "bitch making" thing has been an Old Shame for Romero for a long time now, and I really only put it in the thread title for thr sake of dank memery. If the mods feel this is a bit misleading (since Romero isn't going about trying to make you his bitch) thdn they can rename the thread to something else like "Blackroom: New game by John Romero" but I'd advocate keeping the meme.
If they must change it, I nominate the subtitle becomes Psyclone's god-tier pun.
(For the record I did not come up with it myself: I heard it from someone who in turn got it from a Rock Paper Shotgun comment)
I'm more concerned about "Design is Law" than the sodomy-threatening ad. Has Romero learned how to manage a team, listen to his subordinates and meet deadlines? That'll determine whether he can pull out a bitchin' game.
Kickstarter and announcement just launched
New FPS from id Software alum John Romero and Adrian Carmack, Blackroom is a throwback to shooters of yore, a violent and fast past take on the future of VR.
Weirdly enough, it's a non-VR Gane set in a Second Life esque VR world which is a bit weird, but heh, it seems neat at least.
