Should be noted that the page has a note saying the image is to be kept there by admin fiat.
Although most of those were Fast Eddie's fiat, and we've already overridden it once or twice before.
Moon◊We've overridden this fiat many times, and it wouldn't hurt to override it for this page too.
Ehhhhhh...this is one that I don't mind to keep on the page, although the Angel pic is amusing.
If we are going to do before/after images I'd prefer something that shows someone hardcore followed by someone afraid or intimidated rather than the hardcore/puppet thing. If we are going to go that way the existing image does fine without a "before"
I have to disagree. The image of a puppet provides no context on its own. Someone who does not know who Angel is will not understand why the puppet is a sign of Badass Decay. The contrasting images, showing Angel as a human preparing to fight with a sword, and then as a puppet preparing to fight with a sword.
However, my suggestion is just if folks like the puppet image, the point of the thread is for other folks to give suggestions too. :)
So people are aware that the puppet in the current picture is Spike, not Angel, right?
My mistake. The point still stands, though. Actually that picture is even weaker knowing that's the case, since that puppet is fan-made and didn't actually happen.
BUPKIS.
I love you, Krillin!! -struggling to breathe- I love you as well, honey..I don't support the Angel pic because he's not listed as an example on the page. I haven't finished watching the series yet; does anyone think he gets less badass in later seasons?
This is one of those amusing leftovers from when the wiki was smaller and more strewn with Fan Myopic Trope Namers; Spikification in this case. I'd go with Keep Until Better Image Suggested myself.
Not a BUPKIS case because I think it's possible to illustrate, but I think current is worse than leaving the page blank because it's ass. It's just a puppet/doll wearing a leather jacket.
Like, what?!?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Same here. No pic or something that makes sense.
It's also a holdover from the wiki's days as a Buffy fansite. Maybe I'm being nostalgic, but I'm just not seeing how this one's actively hurting the page.
Not like there aren't plenty of other reasons to not support it, though.
Moon◊If we're going to change it, I guess it should be to another picture that includes Spike. I'm not sure how illustrative audience reaction pages really need to be, but yeah, keep it to something of Spike and that'll be one more change likely to stick if Fasty should return.
That's why he wants you to have the money. Not so you can buy 14 Cadillacs but so you can help build up the wastesNo no, I meant the suggestion. Image 1.1. The Spike doll is fine. Keep Until Better Image Suggested, like I said.
I'm not a Buffy fan, but I do think the current is pretty funny. I do think it shows some part of the trope, as it's clearly a guy in a Badass Longcoat in the form of a plushie.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"I say pull until a better image can be found.
I'm not familiar enough with Buffy to understand how it's an example. To me, it looks like a plushie one could buy online.
I agree with Morgenthaler. A Badass Longcoat is one of the more common signifiers of badassitude. I don't think it's too hard to figure out that this is a less-than-badass depiction of a character who was originally intended to be badass.
It would be nice if the caption helped people get there, though. The current caption is worthless IMO.
On reading Spike's entry, it seems rather confused. It claims he is still badass in later episodes and only stopped being a villain.
Plus it was mentioned the plushie was fan-made, which would make it closer to Alternate Character Interpretation.
I'd suggest the second or last part of this since I really don't understand the Spike example. At all.

''“You want a planet? I’ll give you a planet! Heck, I’ll give you your own solar system! No, I’ll give you a house... in Boca Raton!I really like the last panel of 21, but it might be a good idea to get permission from the artist.
I'm sympathetic to the spike origins of this trope, but I think it is time to move on.
I'll ask the artist permission if/when everyone is on board with the last panel of 21. Or should I ask permission first?

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Point taken. I'll see more of the artist's work and see if they have anything illustrative, and I'll ask them permission.

Someone unfamiliar with Buffy and Angel will have no idea why a puppet in a black jacket is a sign of Badass Decay.
That said, if a better image is needed, the imagery of Angel as a puppet can still work, if juxtaposed against him from earlier in the franchise. I have created such an image here◊.
