Across the Infinite Isles: Game Thread

The trail continued onwards, eventually leading to a break in the forest. There wasn't very much to look at in the clearing itself, aside from grass, and one other object of interest. Nearly a mile away on a very small hill stood a build. It was tall enough to at least have a few floors, wide enough to have plenty of room on the inside, and its circular shape, stone construction, and battlement at the top seemed to indicate some sort of military purpose.

Nukklebud frowned and threw a stone or two at the tower, checking for any magical traps that motion might activate. Never hurt to be prepared. Or, as his peers used to say - paranoid.

Spot Check on Tower

"You think she's there, mate?" Vanis squinted, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever the surly dwarf was looking at. "Wizards and warriors aren't a great mix, and what would either one of them want with a cow?"

If applicable, Aid action on Perception; if not, roll own Perception check.

After some silent contemplation, the half-elf grinned. "Judging from the path, it looks like somebody might be home. Wanna pay them a visit? Only question is if we use the front door or the back door... and we all know how well the straightforward approach went the last time."

"You can try. From the looks of things, it looks as though no one's been here for ages." Nukklebud frowned, hefting his sword up, fearing the worst. Nevertheless, he started up on the path to the front door.

As the group approached the building, they met no resistance nor did they encounter anybody. Nukklebud reached the door quickly enough, at which point the faint sound of rustling chains could be heard coming from somewhere inside the building.

"Well, my dwarven friend, I should've bet you for it, because there is definitely someone at home - that smoke confirms it." Vanis muttered under his breath. "If you're knocking, let me do the talking."

"Gladly." Nukklebud growled, stepping aside to let the man knock if he so wanted to. He was hardly being polite however. He had a sneaking suspicion that some unspeakable monster, long forgotten, was chained up there and that it would attack the first person that came through the door.

Nukklebud was trying to make sure that he was not that person.

"Right. Here goes nothing..." Vanis walked up to the door, making a show of attempting to enter - and stopped short.

Perception or Investigation (whichever applies) on the doorway to look for traps.

Koras spent the past few moments in silent contemplation. Outsiders, city folk, wrecking the serenity of nature like this, perverting the natural cycle. It made him upset.

Upon seeing the tower, Koras huffed. "This sort of construction out here... what do you think it means?" he asked.

As Vanis approached the door, he and the others would see that while the door of the tower was, by definition of the word, still standing, it was not standing in the doorway itself. Rather, it was now nearly a dozen feet away from the entryway, the massive barrier now seemingly held up by rubble. The interior looked completely worn out, decades of disrepair combined with wild animals and the occasional vagrant having taken their toll on it. Inside of the building, seven suits of armor were evenly spaced apart from each other around the walls. The stairs lay at the opposite side of the tower from the entrance.

Nothing on the first floor appeared to have been the source of the noise - a noise which was still intermittently coming from up above.

In his days as both a knight and a soldier-of-fortune, Nukklebud had been attacked by a variety of creatures ranging from orcs to strangely territorial rabbits. But there was one type of enemy that he'd never forget - the enchanted suits of armor that had attacked him in Blackstar Castle. He still had the scar to prove it. He remembered and he was going to take no chances with these suits of armor before him. He aimed his sword at the first suit's head and swung at its neck, planning on going down the line until all were destroyed.

"Are you daft?" Vanis whispered, horrified by Nukklebud's actions. "Now the whole bloody world knows we're here!"

He scanned the room for threats - and if he saw none, he'd dash over to the stairs. Hopefully the fool dwarf hadn't given the game away.

Perception / Investigation check for traps (mundane or magical) or potential danger, then a sprint up the stairs.

With the swing of his sword, Nukklebud managed to knock the helmet right off of the armor, revealing... nothing. It appeared as if the suit was empty.

Far upstairs, the sudden banging sound of something metallic falling down rang out.

"I'd rather have every bleeding rat know we're here. Because then I know they know I'm here. I don't want to not know if they know that we're here because then I don't know if they know and when I don't know, things go badly." Nukklebud told his companion, using his typical backwards, paranoid logic that made perfect sense to his dwarfish sensibilities.

Nukklebud, satisfied at his actions, picked up the helmet and put it on. Never could hurt to have extra armor.
