Sousei no Onmyouji

Precisely. Benio stuff is way more interesting, so why are we following Rokuro?

Oh, wow, people having the same negative sentiments as me on a series that's broadly good. That's a welcome surprise.

Like yeah, I'm usually a sucker for tournament arcs, but this one largely feels like an excuse for the Guardians to show off while meanwhile Benio's doing something actually interesting I'd much rather be focusing on. The only real tension in the tournament is 'how is Rokuro gonna manage to look impressive despite being nerfed in like three different ways?'

Its all just eye-candy really. Again the apparent emotional moments fall flat because its hard to feel for characters you barely know like that Commander with the hat & her apparent relationship to the one who looks like a kid. I admit it looks interesting but I can't bring myself to care because I barely know this woman. Pretty much everything we know about her comes mainly from second-hand sources from the characters around the stadium. Or the daughter of the Commander (I can't remember their names), I just don't feel like she deserved having most of the chapter to herself. It just feels like every fight is gonna end in some moral victory cause they tried their best or some bullshit.

Were stuck with Rokuro cause he is the by the numbers shonen protagonist you can hit every beat with & the safe option, were in a fucking tournament arc already. Compared to Benio who is in enemy territory (Hell) being assisted by the monster who murdered her parents & a literal Devil to regain her Anti-Christ powers. Its a tragedy were completely stuck with the cookie-cutter idiot.

The tragedy of Rokuro is that he started with an actual personality that wasn't super paint-by-numbers, but then he finished his character arc, started grabbing more than his fair share of spotlight, and was hit with a bunch of harem protagonist tropes. Which is the thing I very much didn't want to happen, considering what drew me to this series was the promise of a real Battle Couple.

So apparently there's going to be a parallel series focused on Benio.

I dunno how to feel about this.

Well motherfucker there really doing this. Instead of giving someone who is supposed to be one of the main characters her own arc & spotlight just like you've been giving the other one, instead just give her own separate series.

Is this really that hard? Seriously what bullshit, like who gives a fuck about Shimon's fight anyway, he's gonna get his ass beat. Who cares if he tried his best & did decently he's still gonna lose & that makes his whole fight a waste of time. We should be focusing on shit that actually matters like the other half of the titular team.

Eh, to be fair, concept of fiction with two main characters that splits at some point into two series when the characters get separated before rejoining would be cool. I kinda doubt that is what they are going for though?

Is anyone hear still following the manga?

Watched the anime.....Haven't read the manga and I could say one thing about this anime:

Yuuto is easily the most repulsive and visceral villain I have ever seen in other media. He's one of the villains that easily gain my visceral contempt along with the likes of Ellen from Witch's House or Zouken Matou from Fate so yeah......

Also, is the manga good? Anyone got the links for it?

I do continue reading manga yeah, but I can't do all manga discussions by myself (I have habit of bumbing up on going manga threads that nobody has been replying in for months)

Dang, looking at the latest raws, I'd say Gabura qualifies for a Hero Killer entry.

I don't know who that is, is he a new character introduced in the untranslated chapters?

Were still on Bird-maru vs Worlds Strongest Kid. I am looking forward to seeing the former's leg cut off though, heheh.

About the manga, its generally decent. Honestly the story's nothing to write home about, I'm not really that invested in it but the art is genuinely pretty damn great with very well-drawn sci-fi weapons & shit which I'm sure the anime which I never watched by Studio Pierrot ruined.

Also the anime ended in a Gecko Ending so the stories of the two mediums are very different.

Interesting.... I might just going to give a manga a shot.

Anyways, for Gabura.... Just checked the Sousei no Onmyouji wikia. Is he one of the evil basaras?

He's the Number Three Basara, meaning he's one of the oldest and strongest ones.

Does he also look like a girl & or child?

Nope, he looks like a teenage guy. The quirk he has is that he's a very cheerful Blood Knight who never seems to show any animosity to the people he slaughters. He doesn't kill out of hate or anger or anything like that. He kills for fun. Bad enough on its own, but it's even worse considering he's one of the strongest Basara.

Interesting..... If Gabura qualifies as a Complete Monster..... I'm not sure on how he stands out given he needs to compete with the likes of Yuuto actually but eh..... Anything can happen

So just to confirm something, the characters who we've been forced to focus on cause of the tournament arc, none of them have appeared again in any meaningful capacity right?

I honestly want that loser from Mayura's house & that loser from the loli's house to be brutally killed off for wasting our time with their fight, which is the most superfluous & pointless out of this entire arc. Just a complete waste of valuable pages.

I find it weird how there is now two separate mangas for both protagonists to represent them being separated. Mainly because the other one is really fricking dark ._.;

Spoilers for Raws: The Ioroi House more or less jobs to Gabura. The first thing he does when he shows up is to blow away half of Kazuma's (the guy with the bandana over his eye) torso, leaving him to die in his father's arms. Then his father (who is one of the Twelve Guardians aka the strongest of the Exorcists) tries to stop Gabura by smashing him with stone giant. Gabura smashes his way out and then punches a hole in the guy's chest, apparently killing him. His eldest son Gunki then tries to fight Gabura, only to have both of his arms vaporized simply by trying to block one of Gabura's punches. Gabura then finishes him off by punching a huge hole in his torso. Shizuru (the girl who seems to be getting closer to Rokuro) is understandably freaking out in despair over seeing her father and both of her older brothers being brutally killed. She tearfully tries to avenge them by smashing Gabura in the face with her hammer, which ends up shattering the hammer while leaving Gabura unharmed.

Funny you should mention the loli...she and Sakura Sada (another one of the Twelve Guardians) save Shizuru after her failed attempt to avenge her family against Gabura. They have a personal stake in this too since Gabura was the one who killed Miku's partner and former Guardian Tsubaki Sada (who was Sakura's father to boot). They and a few other Exorcists fight Gabura, and despite holding their own for a while, he turns the tables on them and as of the most recent chapter has apparently killed Miku.

And during all of this, Gabura is almost always grinning like a kid in a candy store.

Ahaha I knew it, I fucking knew they wouldn't amount to much. The fights were just a cheap plow to force us to give a damn for when they are suddenly worfed like literally right after their spotlight. I was right all along, a big fat waste of panel space.

Also I still can't for the life of me remember the Guardians names. The very slow translations does not help in this regard.

Though I'm liking what I'm hearing of Gabura. I just found his design & I think he looks pretty cool.

I've been meaning to get to that.
