Nah, my opening is just Judy sleepy on a commuter train while Nick comes in with coffee and donuts, they chat about a possible new hire, meet him, then go out on patrol XD
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.You still working on that, by the way? I'm curious where you were going with it.
Hallo. So if you've seen me on the main Zootopia/tropolis thread, you already know that I'm hooked on this movie's setting. It's making me want to write something for it; and I haven't written any fan fiction in a long time. Not since I never got the past the first chapter of my massive totally-going-to-be-so-epic-you-guys Ratchet And Clank 'fic.
Quick question, though, since it's already been kinda sorta brought up. The whole plot idea for 'birds and/or reptiles are introduced to the setting'; has that been overdone to the point of it being considered a Fandom-Specific Plot, or is it underused, or something in between? I couldn't find much of the sort over on fanfiction dot net, but I wouldn't really feel motivated to write anything if I knew it was old hat, so to speak.
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."Don't let the lack of uniqueness of the plot stop you. :)
And it doesn't need to be introduced to the setting. The other cities can be "always there" but just not talked about in the movie.
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Even if it's been done before, there are numerous different ways you could take the idea. I doubt all of them have been covered, and even if they have, who cares? As long as it has your own unique flair, then go for it.
In the meantime, I've finally started on my own fic! Feel free to check it out. :)
He'll erase his cop life!
When Nick opens his door in the morning: "AAAAH MY EYES! Oh ok, I forgot. That's the stuff! Now I can go."
So what kind of house does he have in this continuity? Not the run-down basement in the art book, right? He has his own house?
Ooh. Nick and Judy conflict already... I buy it.
Looks like a standard illegal drugs case for now...

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes! For now. Don't forget Lesson 6.
To be honest, I intentionally didn't go into much detail about Nick's house (and I do think of it as a house, albeit a pretty cheap one) simply because there's so little known about it. I also don't see myself actually using it as a location that much anyway. Still waiting on that art book by the way. I ordered it in March.

That's good to know. One thing I noticed about the movie is that (if I remember correctly) while Tundratown and the Rainforest District both got Days In The Limelight, Desert Town didn't. There also weren't many Marsupials in the movie, and a lot of Marsupials live in deserts. And then I tried coming up with stories involving a retired Kangaroo boxer with a Hair-Trigger Temper who goes berserk whenever someone calls her a 'poucher'. I also noticed there weren't any marine mammals, like Dolphins or Manatees; would they have their own district as well? Maybe they're fishermen.
Anyway, I'll get around to reading that pretty soon.

"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."There's actually an unused location called "Outback Island" that was intended to be the home of marsupials and other such mammals. You could use that if you want.
That sounds interesting. So anyway, I just read through your story, and I have to admit that I never actually thought of that particular angle for the nighthowlers. Of course people would start using it recreationally. It's just like the werewolves who rave about how cool it is to be a bloodthirsty monster, etc etc. Well-handled, I'd say.
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."So many possibilities.
- What about the people who actually got a dose of concentrated night howler? Surely they'd have a cure handy, but will there be a chance of addiction from the (unwilling) victims?
- I would assume that the tech to distill night howlers to be as good as instantly mind-destroying, was lost after the train exploded, so these new druggies are probably using a weaker formulation that keeps them sane (but "drunk") at least?
- What if Judy or Nick got shot? I bet both of them have some sort of tranquilizer/de-savaging equipment on hand?

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Regarding aquatic mammals, there's a section of Zootopia on the transit map called the 'Canal District'. I'd imagine it'd be the place where whales, seals, and the like would live.

My fanfiction.net account, for those brave enough.Isn't it where hippos hang out and are seen coming out of the tunnels in the intro?
There's also otters.
I haven't seen any (sentient) fully aquatic mammals yet, but given the focus of this movie, I can imagine that they exist offscreen.
My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!Speaking of habitats, I recall one fanfic I read mentioning a Nocturnal District. I hope they mentioned that in the movie proper as well, if only for its comedic potential that I could relate to.For Example...
Also, did the movie establish what Nick Wilde was doing during the time-skip about two-thirds of the way in, after Judy upset half the entire city and went back to Bunnybarrows in shame?
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."Why...
- Make good on his promise to quit hustlin'
- Sit down on his pool chair under the bridge every day (he's probably got a nest egg)
- Wait for Judy to come and ask forgiveness
- Charge the carrot pen

My DA account... I draw stuff sometimes!I think I'm reading the same fic actually. A Nocturnal District does make sense, and it also makes sense for it to be the "crime district".
I still can't get over the fact that Nick kept the pen all that time. It's so adorable.
I'm still intending to write mine, but I'm in the final few weeks of the semester so I have to focus on studying XD
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I think I might be onto something here. Another question, though; could anyone provide a potential justification as to why domestic dog breeds might also exist in the city? I know they and cats were also absent, but I wager they're around somewhere, just like the domestic sheep and pigs.
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."No, they're not. Dogs as we know them were bred from wolves by humans, the same as domesticated cats.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I guess in the same sense that being human-like animals means that they can develop human-like breeds, just in their own way? Shitty answer, I know.
Incidentally, I have another chapter. (Is it okay for me to keep posting updates or is that a bit tacky?)
That's exactly what the fridge page said, or something like that. But then it said something about 'self-domestication'. I was a little confused, if I'm honest.
You can do what you like. Frankly, I'm amazed you've updated again this quickly.
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."Self-domestication: It's pretty simple, actually. Some people (human/ animals, didn't matter) realizes that working together actually more beneficial than doing everything by yourself at some stage of evolution, so they working on that. With so many people, conflict tend to happen, so to mediate that, they started making rules. With time passed, the rules grew and evolved, so does people that create and follow them. Those who cannot adapt to rules were singled out, slowly. With that, specialization start to give themselves more edge at certain task, but blunt them on others, with other people with different specialization begin to take care of that other task.
Also, it worth noting that most dog breed specifically breed not to look pretty, but because they excel at certain task. Dachshund were breed to drive out small-medium pest and burrowers. Including badger. Terrier are dog example of Pint-Size Powerhouse, and breed as fighting dog and dealing with badger. Poodle were originally hunting dog on colder, watery climate.
Well damn. That's a lot better than my explanation.
Ahhhh, now I get it. Thanks.
To be honest, though, I mostly wanted to include them so I could contrive a 'dogs playing poker' scenario. :V
"If you think like a child, you will do a child's work."
I am planning to actually. I'm just trying to decide between two different versions of it. Nothing in fanfic is a bigger pain in the ass than being stuck between two good ideas.
