Adaptation deviance tropes on trope page seem to be mostly because "they retranslated the game so the translation is now more accurate to japanese version"

IIRC some stuff was changed in both versions, so we don't know how accurate that is until both the Japanese and English ones are out.

So how do you think they'll handle Vivian?

That's been the anxiety-inducing elephant in the room for awhile now. (Well that and if they're gonna have Peach get offscreen naked a half dozen times again. )

It's pretty important for them to do the right thing and re-implement the storyline if you ask me.

A screenshot showed Beldam's group with their original name of the Three Shadows and Vivian as 'RELATION WITHHELD', so something was changed from the original localization.

Apparently she was only explicitly transgender in the Italian version of the game, though it was implied in the Japanese release.

If all versions in the original completely removed anything related to Vivian bring Trans, would anything change in story or dialog?

I can see Vivian being trans or not in the Japanese version, since it's only brought up in an insult by Beldam.

IIRC, in Japanese, Goombella is depicted as conflicted on how to address the subject of Vivian's gender in things like Tattle lines. This continues up until her letter to Mario during the ending sequence, where she seems to have come to accept that Vivian is a girl. That is, if I'm remembering the discussion correctly. It's been a while since I'd heard about that, and I don't have time to do a research dive right now.

I find it interesting that the marketing for this game never seems to mention it being a remake. It kinda feels like they want to trick the average buyer into thinking this is a brand new game, since remakes generally sell less.

That's something that def needs a source.

Huh, so Goombella's Japanese translations DO explicitly state Vivian is trans.

How does this place feel about the three Goombas from the prologue going from calling Goombella hot in the original to insulting Mario in the remake?

Everyone here has not really noticed the dialogue changes regardless of whether or not they "care"...

Honestly the real problem here is that Amazon doesn't have the game yet despite being so close to release.

Personally, I like the original line better; a lot of later Paper Mario games shifted to making Mario the only relevant characters, and that feels like it being injected into TTYD.

Plus it made them very satisfying to beat up.

We noticed. Kind of a bummer since it was a good line and character moment for her.

The removal of lines like that just kind of feel like...dulling the edge of a butter knife.

It's got "an edge" for a Mario game, but doing this just makes it more bland.

That's an excellent way of putting it yeah. Same with the removal of the outline in the backroom.

Another minor one is Mario and Goombella watching Gus get mugged whereas in the OG they don't even notice. It kind of had a funny background event feel to it all. Still funny now because of its "Oh no...anyways" feel.

The outline was already removed for us non-union Japanese players.

And it wouldn't make sense to keep it, there's a bunch of junk on the floor.
