I really love the style of imagery that they're doing for this game, with those sort of fresco-like paintings.

Sweeeet. Okay, I'm excited now.

Getting the Bronze age vibe more strongly from some of new locations, too.

So, I'll definitely be pre ordering this one. I hear its possible to play as a Noble Demon or at least one who adheres to Pragmatic Villainy and that sounds cool.

[up][up] That is...actually a fairly good explanation.

[up]Personally, I'd kinda just figure everyone would call them "Kyros" instead of trying a pronoun they aren't sure about...plus I'd figured the "Use my name in vain and die" law would make people afraid of getting it wrong.

In fact in all in story stuff. Kyros is never referred to by any pronouns.

Yeah, I remember trying to listen to em' when I first saw Kyros be called "she". Narrator must be a stickler for accuracy.

What no "Does it look like I give a fuck?" option. 0/10, would not buy

I think "The question is irrelevant" could count as that.

Not rude and uninterested enough, saying Kyros is mother and father is sort of a relevant answer.

I guess "I'm done answering questions" is kinda like it...

I'm honestly not that sure I buy the logic (as written in the article) behind Kyros' ambiguous gender. I mean, I guess if Kyros really is some non-human entity who doesn't fit the definition of Gender (Or, possible plot twist, Kyros doesn't exist and is just a construct and a name given for whoever holds power. Alternatively a Legacy Character), that works. But if not, it seems a weirdly specific omission. Kyros' name is known. Its symbol is known and recognizable (And a pre-order bonus!). Its LAW is known. It seems rather oddly specific a detail for people to not know if Kyros is a man or woman. Like, I get the "Most people haven't met or seen Kyros". Okay, but most people haven't met Zeus, Jesus, Buddha, Gilgamesh, Amaterasu, Joan of Arc, etc... And doesn't stop these figures from having a known gender, even if their depiction and appearances can vary.

I guess we will see when the game is out. But the lack of answer to me seems to be imply the writers are trying to foreshadow some Plot Twist about Kyros. That he doesn't exist, that there's been many Kyros. Or something. It seems too specific a detail for it to be ambiguous.

The thing is other then the laws nothing is known about Kyros. No one has met them other then the Archons for who knows how many years. And 400 years have gone by with Kyros has the most powerful force on the continent

It's a primitive time, not many people have met Kyros in person, s/he's been alive hundreds of years, presumably keeps her/himself hidden, and punishes those who go against his/her word. It doesn't seem that difficult a secret to keep, given the severity of the Overlord's rule. Those conquered are unlikely to ask a lot of questions, or if they do, they probably won't get many answers.

I'm more interested to know why Kyros's gender needs to be a secret. That to me implies some level of Schrödinger's Cast-ness to it, like your in-game choices will affect it somehow, sort of like a next-level version of how you tell Atton what Revan was like during in-game dialogue in KOTOR 2.

Obsidian likes to hold onto old ideas, reworking them as necessary. They did it with FNV and Pillars. I could see Tyranny having its roots in something similar.

Oh, you may mock, but honestly the only real reason I don't think they'd do that is because they've already riffed on that concept multiple times with The Transcendent One and your past lives in Torment, Revan and Nihilus in The Sith Lords, the Spirit Eater/Akachi in Mask of the Betrayer, and to some extent, your brain in Old World Blues, your past self in Pillars. Although they have shown that they can come up a lot of different permutations on that one theme. Gotta give them that.

And then it turns out Kyros is simply a woman who wanted it ambiguous reasoning potential sexist attitudes from her subjects could make cementing her power more difficult. [lol]

...probably not.

Maybe the plot twist of the game is that you are Kyros.

Considering the shared history of Bioware, Obsidian and Black Isle and how they positively love the whole Tomato Surprise (The Protagonist Is Not Just Any Random Guy, He's Secretly X!) reveal, I would not be surprised one bit.

Disappointed yes (Even Pillars Of Eternity saw them revisit that trope). But not surprised to learn something like you're Kyros and you've been deposed some time ago and the Archons are running the show in "your" name.

As I said, I fully expect there's a big plot contrivance for Kyros' gender to be unknown.

Another possibility (excuse me if the dev blogs already ruled this out): Kyros is secretly a Legacy Character.

Nah, I doubt that each person would be able to not only match the original Kyros's power but also be motivated to keep the wars going for 400 years.
