It's still a context-less silhouette that's not telling the reader anything meaningful (as far as they know) as long as we leave it without a caption. It's also one of the few things I've seen for a NF page that looks legitimately creepy.

Seriously, I think calling 1.1 a spoiler is a gross overreaction.

I mean, I finished the game just a couple of weeks ago and it still took me a bit to remember who that is.

Then I guess the pulled image would be okay... ?

...as long as we leave it without a caption.
I guarantee you that somebody'll add one even if we don't.

Granted, we'd probably have added a disclaimer that they'd then be blatantly ignoring, but still, it's happened.

(I'm still opposed to the image since we've deemed more minor things from this game too spoiler-y for use, but I can see I'm in the minority here.)

I'm really not okay with the pulled image. Just because someone might not remember it doesn't mean it's not a spoiler. The pulled image gives away the twist of an Outside-Context Villain.

It's doesn't have enough context to be qualified as a spoiler, I don't know how many times I have to say this.

Yeah, that argument didn't fly for the disturbing faces from the same boss fight - and those arguably give away even less than the image we're arguing about now.

So what? We've started this conversation anew in this thread, and in this thread there's only two people who keeps on insisting that it's a spoiler. It's flying pretty well.

Well, if we're so adamant to throw caution about our spoiler policy to the wind like this, then screw it, I'm going to resubmit the creepy faces on the TV for consideration. As for why I'd go with it instead of the pulled image, I'll argue that the viny arms of the silhouette of the final boss gives away that it's plant-related (and there's only one plant character in the entire game, so you can deduce who the final boss with as little context as only having played the demo), while the face on the TV isn't tied to anything in-game whatsoever, as far as anyone can tell (even with context). Also noting that Toby considered it creepy enough to use it as his Twitter avatar circa Halloween.

Nobody's throwing out the caution about spoilers because this isn't one.

The final boss of the game absolutely is a spoiler, is considered a spoiler both here on this site and off of it, and repeatedly saying it isn't doesn't magically make it true.

It's considered a spoiler elsewhere, so what? That image is just a spooky image doesn't contain any context to be a spoiler to anyone who can be spoiled by that point anyway.

I already spelled this out a few posts back.

It's a plant-based boss fight.
There's only one plant character in the entire game, and they're literally the first character you meet.

Yeah, totally no context there.

The plant part is obscured in the shadow so you can't tell until you look closely at it.That looks nothing like a plant.if anything, I'd say it looks more like a crab.

There's some sort of ivy danging around its armpits, which is openly visible in the image you're arguing for. That's not obscured at all.

As a person who hasn't played the game or seen that boss outside of the silhouette, I don't see anything that screams "plant". You have to be actively looking for it to see the connection.

I forgot about the creepy TV faces. Those also work pretty well.

Its arms and mouth are much more noticeable in that shot, people are more likely to assume that it's some sort of animal.

The ivy in question is directly on its arms. If you're noticing its arms, you're noticing the ivy dangling from it, too.

Crowner since we're going in circles.

[up] You have to know the ivy is there in the first place to identify it as such. It could be weird test tube things like on Batman's Bane for all you know otherwise.

[up][up] Pretty much, yeah.

It seems like that people who keeps calling the image a spoiler is incapable of seeing it in the perspective of those who haven't played up to that point and saw it him/herself.

I vote for the Silhouette/1.1. While both that and the tv faces work, I do feel that 1.1 is visually simpler and not messy.

Also, as someone who finished the game, unlike the tv faces one the Silhouette one is actually a screenshot directly from the game. The tv faces one is a collection of images.

The TV faces is only supposed to be one or two of them, not the entire image (which is too large anyway).

And I don't appreciate the assertion that because I'm not supporting your argument, I'm somehow "incapable of seeing it in the perspective of those who haven't played up to that point and saw it him/herself". Your proposed take of people unfamiliar with the work is an idealistic scenario, while mine's admittedly an extreme pessimistic scenario. When it comes to a subject such as spoilers that's likely to get people royally pissed off when we get it wrong, I choose to err on the side of caution - especially with something like an image, which is harder to forget in your mind than a bit of text, generally-speaking (going with Rodney's argument in the last thread here). You understand where I'm coming from, right?

At this point, leaving it blank is the best option.
