To Save the Worlds - Crossover RP Discussion

Huh, I just realized I'm the only one who posted after that fight.

I don't see too much wrong with the fight, but I haven't really looked at it that closely. Might be helpful if we had a chart or table or something to keep track of where everyone is in the room, though it might be too much effort. I'm not even sure how many Daemon things there are in the room.

Fight scenes can get messy and complicated. Not sure why no one else has posted though.

Still here, just had real life things happen recently, but I'll see if I can post soon.

In my case, it's because I got distracted by a bunch of other stuff (and Megaman Battle Network) and didn't get to properly read the fight scene 'till now.

Hopefully, I'll get a post up today, if I don't get distracted again.

Man, I had this whole scene planned out for Kirby copying Anita...oh, well.

I'm fine with fighting mooks, and the friendly fire only seems natural when we're just throwing out attacks and seeing what sticks. I agree with Cathari that having a more solid idea of where everyone is and how much enemies we're fighting would be useful for future battles.

I was putting off posting since Sheik's light attack interfered with some other fights, and I thought they might want to react first. Enough time's past now though methinks.

A general question: How many of you think this RP is worth continuing? The fact that the RP just randomly suffered a massive activity drop in the middle of a fight scene is discouraging for me personally, in no small part because now I'm seriously questioning my ability to write fight scenes and really worried that this is going to repeat for any future RP I try running.

Unless you feel like you cannot continue this for whatever reason, then I'd say continue it.

I'm not sure why we've been experiencing a lag in activity lately (though I'll admit there's been a shift from what was mostly a conversation-oriented RP to a full-on battle scenario), but I think what this RP needs the most right now is momentum. At the very least, I want to see if we can finish up this arc.

I don't really have any solid ideas for plotbunnies at the moment for the next chapter. On the other hand, I've been playing through Psychonauts a lot lately, so it's possible by the time we get to the next chapter, I may have some vague plot ideas after beating it (I've also got ideas for other stuff, but they'd make more sense for later chapters).

I'm still enjoying it, it's just that I'm mostly waiting for posts to come from other people that I can respond to, not wanting to clog the thread up that scares people off from the huge amounts of posts that appear. I think you're doing just fine

I concur with Cathari Shard. I'd certainly like for this to continue. Again, I'd be totally willing to try to GM a chapter if it means a chapter involving Megaman Star Force, ZX or Zero. Also, you're not the only one who questions their ability in writing fight scenes. If it helps, the ones you've written so far were pretty good, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm still here. And yes, I'd like to continue.

I don't mind the slow pace right now, as I'm busy with other things anyway.

As far as continuing this RP goes...I have a bit of a dilemma.

On one hand, I'm really not that motivated to keep this RP going anymore. There's a bunch of other ideas I'd rather be focusing on and turning into viable concepts for future RPs.

On the other hand: I really don't want to be seen as the guy who constantly abandons the RPs he makes halfway into the first chapter, especially since my previous RP also ended with a loss of motivation on my part. If I get saddled with that kind of reputation, then there's no point developing those other ideas at all because no one's going to want to join them.

I'm really not sure what I should do here. I want to do everything I can to avoid being saddled with the aforementioned reputation, and if nothing else I should probably do something about this RP (and the other one I started, which I'm having a similar problem with) before starting another one, but if I'm constantly having to force myself to continue then I'm probably not enjoying myself, and if I'm not enjoying myself than my players probably won't be enjoying themselves either.

I suppose I could hand it off to someone else who'd be more motivated, but in my eyes that still counts as abandoning it even if it doesn't end with the RP dying.

For now, the RP's not dead yet, but it's probably going to be a while until I post again while I'm stuck trying to figure out a solution to this nonsense.

Well, if it's any consolation, at least know you've managed to get this RP further than some of the other RP's I participated or tried to participate in. Some stuff didn't even get past mission control, though luckily the first RP I was in went on for a while.

I can understand if you don't feel like GM-ing any more. I had to drop some text adventure thingy I started up (though I wasn't really planning on investing a lot of time into that concept and I got kinda frustrated at the lack of significant progress). I also had to drop some other game I was running (though I ran that one for a year and a half before stopping).

Although I'd suggest continuing the main game if possible, I still think you should look into having one of us possibly take over as GM, though we might not share the same vision and whatnot. That being said, I myself would not want to take that position, as my tastes and preferences might not mesh that well with what the meta-plot is trying to accomplish, and I'd rather focus on my own concepts and projects where I have greater control over the setting.

I'd also like to mention a few things, based on my own experiences and whatnot. Try to focus on one concept at a time. It's really easy to overextend yourself if you're working on multiple projects at once, and you should try focusing most of your creative energies to completing one at a time. Honestly, when I saw you open that other RP, I was a bit concerned, because it kinda felt like you were diverting energies away from this project for that project.

I was going to mention something about trying to post at a stable rate, but that mostly seemed to be the case up until the sudden drop in activity. I didn't know if you did this already, but working on posts chunk by chunk at a time, based on how much stuff you need to respond to, helps you mentally codify the task of writing as something you need to get out of the way, like homework, and makes it harder for you to stop working at it without breaking the cycle. It's something I learned (or noticed) while running the Roll to Dodge thread, and it's part of the reason I was able to run it for such a long time (having each of the players' responses as separate blocks also helps to develop this mindset). Dunno if it'll help, but it's something to keep in mind when running future campaigns.

I've made up my mind regarding this RP.

Unfortunately, as much as I'm worried about my reputation, I'm simply not motivated enough here to continue. If someone else is still really into this and wants to take over GMing for it, then feel free to contact me. Otherwise, consider this RP closed. I'm sorry that it had to end in the middle of a fight, but that's just how things go sometimes.

Whatever my next major project winds up being, I'm planning on building it to last (planning it out much more thoroughly than this one, focusing it on something I know I won't lose interest in within its lifetime, etc.), so I'm taking whatever criticism I was given here to heart for that. Until then, I'll be focusing on CoLC and the other RP I'm running (which was always intended to be a side project by its very nature).

Again, I'm sorry about how this one turned up. I especially apologize if the reason some of you lost interest in it was because of something I did.
