Most of the high speed travel is done by Centaurs for obvious reasons, if someone would need to transport bulkier or just more load (which includes travellers who don't need to be at their destination quick) they likely will resort to carriages pulled by horses or oxes, also the Goblins recently invented a Steam powered carriage, though this is still pretty expensive so its not the most frequent sight. Lastly if you want something to be delivered really fast and safe and have the money to back it up there's the method of instantanious teleportation, though it only works on small objects and is considerably more expensive than all other transports (including the Goblin carriage), its mostly used for important government exchanges.

"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"Interest!
Would witch brooms and other similar things be an option? Like, they're not good for large loads or tons of people but used for small, quick trips.
off the shitsHm... I haven't thought about traditional witches, though I guess one could say that any object (including brooms) could be enchanted with a 'Levitate' spell to be used as such, it'd probably also be a little on the expensive site but yeah that should fly (pun intended)
"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"So can I play a magical mailman?
off the shitsSure can, sounds interesting enough. Plenty of opportunity to interact both with NPC's and PC's, looking forward to it :)
Edit: Since there's so much interest I'll probably have a proper signup open soon, though I will let the worldbuilding thread open. If you want to add anything just post it. (As said in the Opening Post, I don't think the name's good, if you have something more catchyjust post it here.

"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"I'm not sure how I didn't realize it before, but it has occurred to me that I already put a perfect reason in my character's back story for her to have a disguise that doesn't rely on Always Chaotic Evil paranoia or cultural stigmas.
Simply the worry that someone might come after her for the evil deeds she once did including trying to doom an entire kingdom. It's not like everyone would agree with the hero that letting her live in humiliation would be an adequate punishment.
Also, I think just for extra poignancy with her now having to disguise as one, I'll say that the kingdom she was trying to doom was the human one, and the hero who stopped her was also human.
You are reading this. Also, because I felt like it I threw together a quick rough draft map based on the country descriptions so far: Damn it TvTropes I was just trying to link the URL, not hotlink the image. Stop bitching at me.◊
Avalon was described as being in the center of the continent so I threw in the possible unknowns, figuring they would get filled in with more races added later, though I guess those could just be ocean instead.
Maybe after it's all set in stone I'll fire up hexographer and try to make something that actually looks nice.

You are reading this.Since the city was built around the dungeon, it'd make sense if its name was related to that (something like 'Dungeia' or, I dunno, 'Gate City').
Or, since it's between three kingdoms, perhaps it has a name that's common between all languages (do the races have different languages? I'd assume that most people would learn how to speak one common language, or they'd have some universal translator, if that were the case). Or maybe it has different names in different languages, a la Nippon and Japan?
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobWTF that map dude XD, I made a map on paper so I had something to work with and it looked EXACTLY like that one (minus the colors and the unknown but still) I wanted to scan and upload it but that obvioulsy isn't neccessary anymore
Yes that sounds good, I'll think about it

"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"Current idea is a human chef who got bored of cooking grand dishes for nobles and is looking for more exotic ingredients from monsters to create more interesting dishes, but he has no combat skill and has moved to the dungeon city to circumvent long delivery times, high tariffs and expiration of monster parts.
He would give out requests to adventurers for those monster parts and make a meal from those ingredients (that everyone has to pay for).
Seems cool, looking forward to it. I guess I need to think up my GM-PC soon
Edit: Added a brief history of the City, I guess most worldbuilding is done by now, if you have something to add feel free to do so, I guess I'll start a proper signup thread with all the informations tomorrow or Monday.
Edit2: Got a few names for the city, since we all need to live with it in the end I'm just posting them and let you decide which is best or, if you have a better one you can of course post it here to.
- Dungannon - 4
- Hirane (Well, that's my favorite so I'm counting one vote for this) - 4
- Monmoth - 0 | 2 (Dungeon building)
Balmoral- 2Astrakane- 0
All names were generated with the Town Name Generator from this site. Its a pretty awesome site for such things as I found out, I recommend you all to check it out. It has name generators for pretty much everything you can think of and even description generators.
Edit 3: Did a temporary vote tally, seems Monmoth will be the building and the City will either be Hirane or Dungannon though I'll wait for a few more votes until I finalize this.

"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"I like Hirane or Dungannon, though admittedly Dungannon sounds like an attempt to turn the town's name into a vague pun of dungeon. (But hey, dumber names have happened in real life.)
Monmoth sounds like a great name for the monolith/fortress structure that's holding the dungeon specifically.

You are reading this.I like Balmoral and Dungannon. Also agree that Monmoth would be a good name for the dungeon's building.
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobI like Dungannon as the name of the city, so I'm going to vote for that.

Dammit XD, everytime I hear the name Dungannon I think of the RX-77-2 Guncannon
"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"So when are we expecting a signup sheet?
http://www.last.fm/user/sgtpendulum Yo, check out what I'm listening, it'll be heat, brah :^)As I said, I'm planning to post a S!Thread either today or tomorrow, though I at least want to finalize the Cityname first since I don't think a placeholder in a signup-thread will look good, as soon as I heard a few more votes and have that decided on that I'm going to post the thread.
"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"Oh, you've already mentioned that? Huh, must've missed it, my bad. But anyway, yeah, Im gonna go with everyone's decision and vote for Dungannon as well.
http://www.last.fm/user/sgtpendulum Yo, check out what I'm listening, it'll be heat, brah :^)Current voting poll (already updated with your vote) and the notification are here
Edit: Also @Firock Finion, would you mind if I link the map in the Signup later?

"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"balmoral or hirane for me
off the shitsI like Hirane the most.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOI@Sergey_Smirnov: Go ahead, though you might wanna wait 'till I have something that looks better than a paint image I threw together in one minute.
Also something that has the proper landmass shape, since from what you said I take it the unknowns I put in are just gonna be ocean?
You are reading this.Hm, I though maybe the 'Unknown' in the West is really just unknown land, I imagine it that a (currently unnamed) unpassable mountainridge divides the land here, the Dwarves are already tunneling it though so maybe in the near future (read: when I accept another race inRP that doesn't fit into the existing nations) they might succeed and we will know what lies behind there.
Okay, another thing, the poll has progressed quite far now, as of now 'Hirane' and 'Dungannon' with 4 votes each are the clear favorites here with 'Monmoth' being the possible name for the building housing the Dungeon entrance. 'Astrakane' amd 'Balmoral' with 0 and 2 votes respectively seem to be out of the race, seems unlikely they could gain enough votes to win. I've updated the poll post for you to see. If it stays that way I'm probably decide by coin toss.
Edit: Okay, I'm waiting for maybe 2 hours from now on or so, then I'm going to decide for the name and post the Signup thread
Edit 2: Okay, since its still 'Hirane' vs 'Dungannon' with 4 votes each Ilet the coin decide, tail said that 'Hirane' won. If enough are opposing this I can change that, though now that this seems to be decided I'm posting the Signup post, should be done with that in a few minutes

"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"Okay doubleposting since Signup is up
"One may feel fear in the face of danger so long as one banishes fear when danger actually arrives"
Haha, thanks. I'll probably play a town patroller then, gives more opportunities to interact with other townsfolk.
I imagine, given its dungeon and being between three kingdoms, that the city gets a lot of traffic, both from adventurers and regular travellers. What sort of transport does this world have, besides Centaurs?
