I didn't want to post this in YKTTW, so I created a topic here.

What I have noticed in some media, is a character visiting a psychotherapist and the therapist being utterly unable to help the character in question. The character diverts all their questions and advice, overwhelms or exasperates the therapist to the point of them throwing hands in the air and giving up.

Now, I have been in therapy for many years. While I am far from an expert on the field on psychotherapy, I do find it a little hard to believe that someone who has not only years of education but likely also years of experience would be so easily duped by a character such as this one, no matter how challenging. In my experience, the therapist may decide that they're not the right fit for the client, but not that the client simply can't be helped, which is often the implication in these scenarios.

Given all that, it has led me to wonder if this can be considered a trope, and by extension if it can be a case of Artistic License. I wanted to know if others have seen this situations as well, and if my impressions on fiction vs reality were accurate.

It should be covered under The Shrink. If not, propose your adjustments and provide examples.
