Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender

Well, we know Zarkon was actively looking for the lions, and one of the lions was on Earth so...

Keith's mother was a loyal/dependable agent of the Galra empire until she met Keith's dad. That in turn led to her joining the Blades in order to avoid Earth's enslavement. She didn't constantly stay on Earth, but popped in when it was safe to do so. Eventually, Keith is born, and she drops him off with his dad so the Galra won't find out. Alternatively, Keith's mom was already a Blade, and was looking for a weapon like the Blue Lion to use against Zarkon.

Or, half of Keith is all of Keith's mom.

Alternately Keith is some sort of Galra/Marmora-created Designer Baby who is able to pass as human due to spliced Altean DNA or whatever. His creators then pulled a Superman and sent him to Earth where he was adopted by his Earthling "father", and his "mother" is merely metaphorical.

I just want to know why Keith's dad fucked a purple lady. Also how they met.

I can't answer the second part, but if I were to make a guess, it's because you only get one chance to do a purple lady.

And when that chance comes, dammit! You take the plunge!

Obviously Keith's dad was a furry.

I hate sounding like one of the people who are too trigger happy with the word "Racist!" but its really uncomfortable how much you guys act like being in a relationship with "Purple" woman is so out there and weird, some jokes are fine but its going downhill fast.

Hey, I'm all for boinking aliens, but we need to be honest here. She's not the same species. She didn't even evolve from the same common ancestor on the same planet. Keith's dad has more in common, genetically, with a Mosasaurus than with a Galra. It's a little weird.

Galrans look like bats to me. I was making a joke about Keith's dad being into bats, not about people of different skin tones being animals.

That would have been terrible.

Pretty accurate except it would make more sense for the pro-Black Paladin Keith person to be the Sheith stan than the Klance stan. The latter folks actually tend to hate the idea.

More on topic, there's this interview where they talk a little about Lotor. Seems like they're going to push for him to be somewhat of an Anti-Villain.

Minor news - Apparently a Japanese dub has just been released...on US Netflix only. You have to make Japanese the primary language and it becomes available.

Wow, everyone sounds a lot older in the dub. Not a big fan of Keith's voice, a little too nasal sounding but everyone else sounds great.

Let's be honest. Is there even any chance for an actual LGBT character in Voltron? The way I see it, Voltron is an equivalent to shonen mecha anime. I don't remember the last time I've seen an actual gay/bi men in a show aimed at young boys. If there's any, usually they stay single or.... dead

If anything, you will find many men that's disgusted or disagree by the thought of gay/bi men in "their" show (Klance/Sheith is OOC and pandering to fujoshi!), but lesbian/bi women are okay because they're hot.

So no, Voltron cannot afford to lose half of their viewers by making any of the male characters gay/bi. But I can see them put lesbian/bi women or just "out" the characters at the end of show. Sorry if I sound pessimistic.

A Japanese dub is potentially huge, but I wonder if they're waiting for Niconico to actually announce a Japanese release.

Nico Nico? I know some high profile anime like Fate/Zero got Nico Nico streaming rights but I wasn't aware that it was a common practice.

That was a floating theory. In truth I have no idea, but a dub isn't made to just sit there.

Tell that Dragon Ball Kai's Ocean dub and literally hundreds of other examples.

There's nothing saying a main character in a shounen can't be gay or bisexual.

It's incredibly rare or maybe even non-existent, but there Ain't No Rule.

Doubt it, None of the VAs they got are all that high profile so I don't think they're putting a lot of budget into this.
