Hey tropers, the day has arrived. If you were one of our Kickstarter donators last year you've probably seen us tinkering with a new design for months. Within the next couple hours (depending on how fast your DNS updates you'll start hitting our new servers with the updated version of TV Tropes). A huge thanks to those of you who have been monitoring it and giving us feedback throughout the development process. Some of the new features include:
- Updated design throughout for a cleaner browsing experience
- One click sign in with Facebook
- Random Shuffle button to stay on a namespace (hit Random Media then the Shuffle button to randomize that namespace)
- Browse Watchlist in an image view
- History page now highlights sentences that were deleted/added to make it easier to review changes
- New image uploader with built in crop function
- New About Us page so you can see who we are.
- Contact Us form
- Trope Depictions on the home page (artists can submit their own comic to go with a trope)
- Bug List page Query Bugs (and Query Wishlist for tech wishes) to organize and track bugs on the site.
Ok. Let the feedback begin. (See Anxiety Tropes for my current feelings)
Notes:
- Please do not bother asking for the old design to come back. The lease of the old servers did expire at the day of the changeover, the new ones cannot run the old design.
- You can move the sidebar to the left by going into your profile and selecting Lefthand Sidebar.

If it is a bug that someone will get around to fixing, I really have nothing else to say on the subject.
Except this. I cropped and resized everything in my avatar gallery until I thought they looked right. If you then go and change how the site works and retroactively make that work moot, that's called Moving The Goal Posts. As is, that's not what happened, but there is an option to remove pictures. If this was an intentional, permanent change, I probably would have used it already.

Thank you Blackie, but I knew that already. I wanted to see why it was done before I went and deleted anything. If it is a mistake that is going to be fixed, I can wait.
But seeing the images in the lineup does further confirm that this is just a glitch.
While its a simple fix to turn on "Show Spoilers" on the sidebar, an annoying little oversight is when people hide spoilers within the [[note]] gimmick. You attempt to click hidden words, but will just end up closing the note again. Then, when you open the note again, it will have the words that you clicked on now revealed.
Like i said, its just a minor annoyance.
RLLThat sounds like a problem with user behavior, methinks. But when I see something like that, I usually open the note and then click-drag to highlight the section.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."I can't figure out how to delete avatars from my gallery. Pretty sure it's not a glitch and just me not being good at finding things.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Go to your other gallery, by clicking on the icon on your post.
Related to that: the share avatars functionality seems to be gone from that page?
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundCheck the capitalization of your username on the gallery page's URL. It has to match your cookies.

Only seeing the 'delete' tickbox, despite using the same capitalisation.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundx4 Somebody else already PM'd me what to do, but thanks anyway.
You should honestly be able to easily delete gallery images directly from your profile settings, that's an annoyingly indirect method.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? The share checkbox is there for me :/
You also have to have shared avatars activated in your profile settings.

Toggling the profile option off and on seems to have done the trick.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundIs there a way to report problems with ads without having to use the 'Report Advertisement' option? If I understand that correctly, 'Report Advertisement' refers to the ad it's attached to, but I'm having issues with a couple of ads when trying to access tvtropes on mobile, and they're both autoplaying, redirecting me elsewhere automatically, and lack the 'Report Advertisement' part. One ad pretended I had just installed a virus and it could free me of that and needed several attempts to close it and return to the site. Also, I'm having this issue only when accessing tvtropes.

Well, you can talk about it there.

Just wanted to say thank you guys for extending the character count on reviews from 400 to 3000. It's much easier going to detail that way, and I wouldn't have been able to write my Man of Steel review or rewrite my Avengers: Age of Ultron review without that.
When I'm browsing the forums on mobile (using the desktop design because I don't like the mobile design) occasionally a page redirects to an ad for an app and I have to go back two pages to avoid the ad. Can this be fixed? I never tap the ad, it just redirects.
Unfortunately common at the moment, but definitely not intended. Report it in this thread, and try to include as many details (content, URL, etc.) as you can.
Are the new giant YouTube embeds a feature or a bug? Just wondering...
(Browser info is latest version of Firefox, just in case of the latter.)

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I think it's a new feature.
Better than having them right-aligned.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Still isn't all that good when the video embed is so large that I have to turn off the sticky header just for the video window to be completely visible on the screen.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Not intentional. Some code was pushed that wasn't quite ready. It will be fixed tomorrow.
I've always been of the opinion that if you think your avatar is important, you make it work with what's there. I always make sure my avatars are of the standard size of whatever forum it is, and if there's some special formatting, I make sure to fit that. I've never encountered any automatic system that makes the image fit to work better than just doing it yourself. Cropping and/or resizing give higher quality if you do it yourself.
That's not what Moving The Goal Posts means.
