Changed the thread title to more closely reflect what is being requested, technically.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAutoplay is the devil
Autoplaying audio has been considered a terrible web design decision since the days of Geo Cities, and this remains true today.
No.
Although, my PC can handle loading an You Tube video or 3; autoplaying them with audio is rather annoying.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakBig to autoplay anything, anywhere.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
The wiki doesn't allow auto-playing ads, why would they want auto-playing non-ad content?
All your safe space are belong to TrumpWe don't want any ads that disrupt the wiki viewing experience by autoplaying, redirecting your browser, putting pop-ups, pop-unders, flyouts, or overlays on your screen, or anything else like that. Unfortunately we have no prior control over what ads get delivered other than asking the providers nicely.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Also, ads are generally a lot more irritating than videos in wiki pages.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell, how about not making it autoplay, but it's still embedded with a button or link or something to press for it to start/stop playing?
Believe in yourself!Again, we do not control the ad content that is delivered to us, except in very broad ways. You might as well ask the company that programmed the ad that question. They have financial incentives to make those ads as intrusive as possible, and the ad facilitators that we use don't give a damn about the end-user experience unless they get a ton of complaints.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'm not talking about ads. I'm talking about videos embedded by tropers, specifically in regard to the self-demonstrating character pages under Just for Fun but possibly other pages as well if there would be a use for it.
Believe in yourself!Oh, whoops. Yeah, those should not be autoplaying, but if we use the standard [youtube:] embed, then that wouldn't be an issue.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Video embedding is something we already have
I was not aware of that because it doesn't appear under the Markup Help. But now I know.
Believe in yourself!Seems like no consensus, closing thus.

I think there should be a way to play the audio from You Tube videos on the self-demonstrating character pages under Just for Fun. This way, you wouldn't have to click on the You Tube links to play the music. Maybe this can be done by embedding the You Tube video in the page but hiding it from view?
