This episode was great. Lots of myth arc development.

So Mike wasn't mind-controlling Elliot. He was being mind-controlled as a meat-puppet. Should have seen that coming.

Eliza is actually Jane. Should have seen that coming too. And now she's dead. Definitely saw that coming.

Julia's life is finally looking up. Of course, messing with gods can be dangerous, but at least they're known quantities and many of them are friendly, compared to people like Marina.

I like the way Quentin and Alice's relationship is going. Acknowledging that there was a lot of adrenaline and such going on, but moving past it.

And this has been bugging me for a while: Why do they say fuck, and then censor it? This is a Sy Fy original series, not a rerun from somewhere else. Shouldn't they have known they wouldn't be allowed to say it and just write around it?

[up] Maybe my mind is just shopping it in, but I've actually noticed moments when the word 'fuck' wasn't censored, once or twice an episode. They definitely pass their limit tongue

I'm glad Julia is finally having something good happen to her.

They're barely censoring it. They silence the u, so it's f*ck. Your mind fills in the gap very easily.

Yow, this episode. I mean, haunting episodes are bad in general, and worse with kids, but this... At least Supernatural usually ends with them burning down the house if all else fails.

Also didn't expect the Beast's true nature to be revealed so quickly. Was it the same in the books?

[up]The Winchester Brothers are not Role Models tongue

I may actually have sketched out a The Dresden Files RP game story where it shows their "hunting" from the side of the harmless magic community. (Ie. Serial Killers)

Eh, they usually only hunt dangerous things. With the exception of that one kitsune, and even that was because she had killed (the morally grey part was because she did it for a good cause). It's just that very nearly everything in Supernatural is evil and dangerous. They leave reapers alone, for example.

Anyway, the Magicians. I hope the team told the teachers about the haunted house, but considering the staff's relaxed attitude about everything, that might not help. And Dean Fogg should probably tell Quentin everything he knows about Eliza/Jane Chadwick, but it's not clear how much he actually knows.

I'd complain about magic on SYFY if not for the fact they already ruined ECW. And the fact they call themselves SYFI. And that they cancelled "Atlantis" for more versions of the inferior "Galactica" vanity trip, versions of such that didn't have Edward James Olmos.

So SYFY is using this series to try and convince Dish Network owners it is not a channel worth dropping, so I suppose that is almost a good enough reason to give the series a chance. Tell me is not a sin against the book it's based on and I'm sold.

It's not. They changed the plot structure quite a lot, and made Q somewhat more likeable, both both of those was very necessary in order to get something which is workable as a tv show.

You can say what you want about Syfy but both The Expanse and The Magicians are pretty good this season.

That was PERFECT. Just every second of it. From the dream all the way to the last second. I don't even know where to start.

There is one thing that confused me, though. Has Quentin started calling Alice "Vix" as a pet name? As in vixen? As in female fox? I don't know if that's adorable or stupid.

That wasn't a day dream. That is what Quintin's actual dreams are like. The ones he has while asleep.

Which was just glorious. I just ended that little event going "Please be a prophetic dream, please be a prophetic dream". Also laughing, because *his own sex dreams tell him to shut up* You can't tell me that is not funny.

On the "foreshadowing" angle, if Alice did wind up in a gay relationship, or in a triad she would never, ever let her parents know.

Julia's plot is going places! She's hooked up with Kady. And golly, that is some ambition her new friends have.

Yeah. Earlier I was saying that getting power from gods is safer than normal magic, but that's theurgy—asking the gods for help. Gods tend to get upset when they're summoned like a common demon and used as a magic battery.

The fact that the gods *exist* imply that the glass ceiling isn't an iron rule - it's possible to be a coherent mind and have more power than a human magician can hold. That doesn't make this particular plan for exceeding it in any way safe or sensible. Kind of very much not, in fact.

I can think of better approaches just based on what we have seen - Alice thought she could fix niffen madness, and while she was probably wrong to think she could pull that off then and there, having a group of magician's work on it for a bit might make that possible because I dont think Alice is very likely to be just fundamentally wrong on a topic like this, and there is the Margolem.. if you can decant your lifeforce into a construct, it's probably possible to just go full on "magical trans-humanism" and move life and conciousness both to a golem built to tolerate higher magical stresses.

In less: "Min-maxing of fictional worlds" I have decided I am not joking I really want that dream to be a prophecy. Because I want the characters to have a happy ending, and the three of them shacking up and heading off to a con of some sort in those getup's would imply they're all in a good place.

On the one hand, great episode. I liked that the beginning wasn't just a random prophetic dream (like I thought it was), but actual induced prophecy. Liked the way battle magic was done, and the workaround, and the side effects of the work around. Liked that we're finally seeing Julia's flavor of being The Chosen One, which was hinted at in the first episode but seemingly abandoned.

Not sure how to feel about the ending. On the one hand, they were basically blackout drunk, so it's not completely their fault, and Alice knows that. On the other hand, considering her parents and her upbringing, I have a feeling this presses some VERY uncomfortable buttons for her. I doubt this breakup will last forever, but it's going to take more than just Q apologizing to fix it.

Good episode. Saw Alice banging Penny coming a mile away. Totally in character for Alice to kinda snap and do something cruel. Looks like they'll get over it soon, though. Loved that we finally got an explanation for what the hell was up with Julia (not to mention everything else, but that was the big question mark), and her interactions with Q were fun. Clever way of getting to Fillory, though it still feels a little too easy. And Elliot continues his downward spiral. I'm pretty sure he's going to end up dead soon. Maybe he's the one who kills the Beast?

This has already been confirmed for a second season, right?

So all this hub-hub started because a bunch of magic college students wanted to do their Spring Break party in Narnia and the resident Eldritch Abomination wanted them to get off their lawn with prejudice and then some?

Well, the Beast has been hunting Travelers for decades. So the reason he got this specific Traveler was because of that, yeah, but it's not like the Beast himself was caused by it.
