The current is completely non-illustrative, but I don't think the suggestion is any better. This is almost going to have to require a flowchart-type image to get the concept across properly.
Also don't think the suggestion is really better.
Tried looking for some images, but the best I found were Zerg tech trees and concept art, and random Tyranids. Nothing that really illustrates the trope.
Check out my fanfiction!Well let's see if this works. A Warrior bug◊, a Scorpion bug◊, a Tanker bug◊, a Control bug◊, a Queen bug◊, and a Brain bug◊ from Starship Troopers.
With the right caption that might make an okay collage. It's a shame the control bug's image is so small and dark.
6.1 and 6.2 look good.
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Any image with at least three roles illustrated?

Clock's up; locking for inactivity/lack of consensus.
The current is a Real Life image of a leafcutter ant—not a terrible example of adaptation, but it doesn't show anything about specialized adaptations between castes in the same hive. There ought to be artwork somewhere of some of the multiple body types given in the article—the Worker, the Warrior, the Queen, etc. For starters, here are two types of Formians from Dungeons & Dragons, though they're not as obviously differentiated as I'd like.
