I continue to hope that Yume/Ranta will never become a thing. Spring Dream forever.

Also, the series' BD sales for volume 1 are third-highest of the season. This is a good sign, I'd say. Let's hope we can get a season 2 with high sales!

I'll also have to pick up the books when I get a chance, to see what happens further on.

It's been fun.

There'd better be a season two indeed. if Kono Suba can, why can't Grimgar?

I thought KonoSuba was split-cour? As in, budgeted as a 2-cour series, but produced with a break in the middle

According to SomeAniThing, Grimgar will likely lock in at 3rd in sales for the winter. It's also running a contest and so on for the books and the new manga adaptation, so hopefully studios will see it as an economic winner.

^Possible, yeah. Konosuba also only got ten episodes.

I have to say, episode 12 was a little bit underwhelming, but only because everything that happened pretty much had to happen after the way 11 ended. Still a very good episode!

It's been fun.

Yume x Ranta ship tease is gross. Otherwise an enjoyable episode

Overall, the series is good, if not quite great. Very pretty, and some solid character writing, but let down by erratic pacing, predictable plotting, and uneven character focus. This is something I'd recommend to people looking for a character drama, but I'm not sure about fantasy fans

Yeah, I'm really not feeling Yume/Ranta. Really, really not feeling it. If the writer pulls it out of his ass after Yume specifically and clearly saying that Ranta hurts her feelings and that she dislikes him, I will not be happy.

It's been fun.

From what I've been told though, it's mostly an anime-only thing. The teasing I mean. Indeed, Haruhiro falls in love with another fenale adventurer, Mocha, in the book that focused on Orcs. Then she dies. Whoops.

Heck the complaint I've most heard about in other places was how Mary was given way too much focus compared to Shihoru and Yume. Which is why in a later book the team gets isolated from each other when they get trapped in ANOTHER world aside from Grimgar.

I'm guessing the anime wanted to keep focus on the themes of grief and loss, so they naturally focused most on Haruhiro and Mary who best embody those themes. Just trying to keep the writing tight.

I really need to get my hands on the books.

Myssa! I'm going to shamelessly ask for spoilers - any hinting of pairings inside the group specifically?

It's been fun.

[up]

Haruhiro encounters his childhood friend Choco (seriously?) in book 3, and through her he starts remembering some of his life prior to Grimgar. Then she dies. This is the same book that Moguzo dies too, by the way.

But yes, I can confirm that Mary starts to feel jealous whenever another girl hits on Haruhiro. By book 5 though, ANOTHER girl from another party hits on Haruhiro and he turns her down amicably. Because he's apparently not ready for a relationship right now. Damnit Haruhiro. Because fallout of the book 3 thing. And him finding out that Mary and Kuzaku, the paladin we've met who was part of Mary's old party, had a thing.

Kind of moot as of book 7 though as an expedition to explore the gate system that Grimgar is part of goes pear-shaped, and the party is scattered in a hostile planet they don't know. And you thought Grimgar was though already. XD

EDIT:

If you're THAT impatient, use the following link for the summaries of the next few books.

By the way, if it hasn't been made obvious already, Mary in the books is drop-dead gorgeous.

Book 8 sample image.

I still want Haru and Yume to get together. Mary can come too.

It's been fun.

I really enjoyed this anime. You guys were right. The subtle character development was definitely my favorite part of Grimgar. I hope we get another season.

@Myssa Rei Would you mind tagging your first set of LN spoilers so people don't mix them up with episode 12 spoilers?

It's finally over I actually enjoyed this series more that I thought I would.

Oh well time to say goodbye to Mary's legs, Yume's ass and Shihoru's boobs

I need moooore! Ranta's demon suuuucks! But in a good way. I literally screamed when Manato's ghost came back one last time. Pig larvaeeeee!

Frick I should not have read those spoilers. sad

Anyway, Yume x Shihoru is the canonest canon to ever canon. Good ship. Didn't really see Ranta x Yume ship tease per say, so much as Ranta being a perv, as always. I love the relationship Ranta and Yume have though, it's the best.

[up]Well said. But hopefully not goodbye forever.

I would love it if we found out that Yume and Shihoru have been a couple since a month after Manato died and it just hasn't come up because Haru doesn't realize that it's not just Yume being overly touchy.

It's been fun.

I like it, because that would make room for a guilt free Mary x Haru ship. Yume works better with him as a friend than a girlfriend anyway.

I mean, like I said, I would accept Thief Lady's suggestion of Haru/Mary/Yume/Shihoru before I would accept Ranta/Yume without massive character development.

It's been fun.

[up]I would be very happy with the Mary/Haru/Yume/Shiro/Moguzo everyone excluding Ranta idea.

I love Ranta, but I love him as the jerkass butt monkey that no one likes. evil grin

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Maaan, I just checked out the dub version of that scene from episode 5, and they did a really good job with it.

It also reignited my Haru/Yume ship fires, so... damn.

It's been fun.

So apparently a marathon of Grimgar episodes 1-8 will be held on Niconico on 5/21, and what's more it's marketed as the "fixed" version. Apparently it tightens up some of the awkward pacing issues and "LOL WHAT INSERT SONGS TO THE MAX" stuff.

No word on the finale, which was aired essentially unfinished.

Aw, I actually liked the insert song stuff. It felt right for the show - like it fit with the art style and all that.

It's been fun.

Me too. It helped set off the peaceful mundanity of their everyday lives with the fear and terror of going adventuring.
