Yeah, I really wonder why the goblins need killing too. They only seem to attack when provoked. I guess they did take over that one town that Manato got killed in? Right?
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.who knows. But, yeah that's also one of options
Yes, that's what I think too.

I'm assuming it's to take care of a possible threat, as well as pave the way for eventually retaking the territory.
I don't think they took over the town so much as are squatters in a town that fell into ruin for other reasons.
Yeah, and "taking over the town" would include fortifications, additions, females and youths. You know, making it a place for them to actually live and prosper. Right now they just seem to be scavenging and serving as targets for young adventurers.

Episode three stated that the town was once the second biggest city in the kingdom until overrun by the goblins. From that and everything else, it's clear our heroes have been drafted into fantasyland's version of a race war.
Was it?
Well, that sound like pretty good reason for goblin extermination now.

Well, little steps forward are still effective. Our group's breaking through Mary's defenses slowly but surely, and in the end, it's going to do all of them good to put their pasts behind them.
As an aside, I do love the little details, like Moguzo and Ranta eventually getting more parts for their armor. Makes me remember some D&D campaigns I was part of where instead of getting the prescribed starter set in the DMG, we got "patchwork" armor instead, and it was up to us to scrounge up money to get the rest of the parts. Fun times.
Again, definitely more like a standard sword and sorcery story, except again, the niggling video-game-ish stuff that pop up, like the Skills again. They scream "Skill Tree!" to me, actually.
So next episode... Payback to the goblin band that ambushed them before? Looks like it.
Sounds like our murder hobos are ultimately planning genocide. Creepy!
Also, Yume's ass

Always appreciated.
I like that scene with Ranta.
The gang also really don't care about who they were before coming to this world, they're prepared to live out their lives like this.
This is a comfy show despite the genocide.
So to elaborate on the Town. The Goblinoid Leaders control it. The most powerful Goblins and their leaders are in the actually maintained part of the city along with their numerous mates. The section of the city that the Heroes travel in is the old ruined part of the city that the Goblins send all of their exiles.
In the light novel their is a brief scene were the party more or less goes to the area were the Ruined part of the city actually enters into the Fortified Goblin City. The party more or less says they are not even going to go near that place as the Goblins there are very well organized and the place is covered with goblins, while the ruins are full of somewhat depressed and scattered Goblins.
Haruhiro even notes that all of the Goblins in the Old City seem a bit hopeless and depressed even the Elite Hobgoblin and Goblins that killed Manato. The Goblins in the Fortified and Maintained part of the City are focused and organized.
So they're killing the criminals and victims of goblin society?
Just twist the knife even more.
On an unrelated note, am I the only one who thinks Grimgar is doing something interesting with its fanservice moments? That is, Ranta's infamous boobs talk in episode one and his subsequent peeping incident (none of which was shown on screen) were actually treated as seriously obnoxious by the rest of the party rather than lighthearted fluff, with his actions still having consequences in the latest episode, as the girls only now seem able to start trusting him and the other boys again.
That's rough. Also even if Goblins did take over some human territory, I with they would try to come to an agreement rather than sending young foreigners to genocide them all. They have language for goodness sake.
I noticed that too. Also "heh" out loud at "muder hoboes."
Yeah, this was a nice, lighter episode. They're making some progress with Mary, and Shizuho made a lot of progress of her own in talking to people who aren't Yume. Ranta apologized twice and made it rain...Moguzo was kind of just there...
I like Haruhiro's little conversations with his dead bf.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.
Thank you for giving me an image of Haruhiro whispering "I love you, Manato" to Yume. XD
Those aren't the fanservice moments though (Ranta's peeping was entirely off screen, for example). The fanservice moments are when the camera consistently focuses on Yume's butt or Shihoru's cleavage for no reason and with no comment.

Episode eight and for a moment I thought it was the final episode, considering the way it ended. it wouldn't have been a bad ending either.
Assuredly the end of volume 1 of the LN. The first volume is always written as a complete story that leaves open the possibility of a sequel.
Good episode. Now we see them fit the next volume into half the time, I guess
Next volume is smaller and has a lot of content that can be cut (inner monologues).
Lazy and pathetic.Episode 8: I FEEL SO BAD FOR THE GOBLINS THEY HAVE PET ANTEATER-CATS THEY PLAY CHESS SOME OF THEM ARE MORE ATTRACTIVE BY HUMAN STANDARDS GAH!! At this point I want to see/read fanfiction about a star-crossed friendship or romance or foster parent-child WHATEVER between a human and a goblin!
But also, Mary is no longer a b-word. "Hal" REALLY loved Manato, poor guy. Everyone got some STYLISH AS FUDGE new robes and their official soldier tags and are looking FINE AS HELL.
Maybe would have seen another side of him, maybe would have seen him naked, I dunno whaaat who said that?
Yume and Ranta are basically like brother and sister at this point. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
DID THEY GET MANATO A BADGE TOO OH NOOO THEY DID NOW I REALLY WANT TO CRY!!!
You want to know what was a waste of money? Not accepting that guy's money in the tavern with your macho hero pride.
Friendship. Friendship can heal emotional wounds.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Man, this was a good, relaxing episode. (Also, hi everyone, how are you all?) I can't say I'm a fan of the lack of Haru-Yume ship teasing, though. Haru-Mary is also cute, but it's not as cute.
Some more interesting worldbuilding in this one - it looks like the kobolds will be more clearly characterized as evil to contrast with the goblins, and yet another mention crops up of the No-Life King, who I really wish had gotten a cooler name. Our Goblin Slayers don't seem that concerned with him, which is fair, honestly - it's like Yume said. They have a comfortable life here, even if it does involve being murderhobos, and money earned from gobs spends just the same as money from legendary monsters. I doubt we'll ever see our heroes take on the leaders of darkness, but they don't have to.
...oh. I just realized something horrible. You remember how, in episode 4, the Priest mentioned that bodies need to be cremated? Mary's comrades were never recovered from the Mine.
It's been fun.
Yeah, I kind of expect that to come up eventually if they venture into the lower levels of the mine.
Well you have few hundreds armed dangerous demihumans roaming few hours from settlement. Sure, ignoring that sound like optimal solution.
