Striped pantsu have been around for a long time — heck Hatsune Miku had them — it's just that Kyo Ani seems to love using it as a joke in its series.

It K-On manga and Miku they both appeared after mid 2000s, though, so I'd hardly say that they have been around for a long time.

2006 is almost ten years ago. That IS a long time, especially when fandoms tend to cycle in and out in a two-to-three year timeframe.

K-On anime and CLANNAD anime aired around 2007~2009, so you really can't say that it existed long time before them.

Personally, I would love to see a team like the main characters, except made of Phantoms, like an anti-anti-Phantoms.

This may come as a surprise, but I think Ruru is a phantom.

She's introduced as a Phantom, so that's far from what I'm looking for.

I do wonder what's the deal with Ruru. Is she just there to be a comedic sidekick?

If this is a Key animation, you just know that she's actually a re-incarnation of MC's IMOUTO who will die or disappear in a oh so sad moment.

A better twist: Ruru is a human and Haruhiko is a phantom What a shock!

I think the bigger question here is why is Ruru so.. coherent. All the other phantoms we've seen have this consistent "static" effect on them, showing how they're not in synch with reality. Ruru shows none of this.

I just assume it's because she's more peaceful than the other ones we've seen.

I wonder if her sucking ability is limited to phantoms. If not, there are other ways she can use her mouth.

You know, like trash disposer.

Like I said before, I can think of other uses for it.

I suppose if it's possible to take things out of her, she could be used to carry so many things. She would be a living hyperspace.

I somehow stumbled into watching this anime and man, this was the most ridiculously suddenly-things-happening first episode I think I've seen in a while. Part of it felt like watching a nonbotched version of Pixels.

I'm a bit annoyed though that the ED didn't include Haruhiko. I know he was portrayed as a weak underdog character but come on.

You expect the male MC to get focus in a show with 2-3 female characters? HAH, where have you been.

To be honest, I didn't even know this show had a male main character until I watched it because in the promo poster, he has such an insignificant spot in the background compared to the girls who are front and center.

Ruru is anime-original. She was added in because the MC has a ton of monologue, and having a sidekick is a good excuse to have Haruhiko speak up some more. Notice how Ruru's interaction with the girls are nonexistent.

Watching Rakudai Kishi No Eiyuutan?

Trivialis: In Kyo Ani shows, unless the cast is overwhelmingly male like Free, it's always the female segment of the cast who will be in the ED. See Chuunibyou, Amagi Brilliant Park, or even Hibike Euphonium.

Second episode and it's still as crazy as the first. UFO, Robots, Demon Puppies!

We get two fights, the first one really cool, and the second.... somewhat less dignified one.

The first fight showed us some good teamwork in the group and even the usefulness of "useless trivia"

Mai evidently went to Chun Li school of rapid kicks.

It seems Haruhiko can indeed summon Phantoms as well as seal them... but the effect was more adorable than anything.

The fanservice is still going strong with a shower scene and stretching one. Mai sure can bend.

And then Haruhiko got thrown out of the window... four time in a row.

Minase is pretty boring to be honest, definitely the weakest link. Her power is kinda cool though even if it got countered easily.

Oh, and some sort of gizmo, I wonder where that will lead.
