Honestly, I don't get quite the logic for movie seasons in the US...I get it for Europe, we have so few really warm and sunny days that releasing movies during the summer when a lot of people are out of the country for vacation on top of most of them rather going to the swimming pool than to the movies isn't the best idea. I also get that there are certain weekends in the US on which families are more likely do an outing to the movies. But otherwise I think that movies released in the US can be successful no matter when they are released as long as they have a decent marketing campaign, good Wo M and aren't too close to another big release.
I think part of the original logic for releasing blockbusters in the summer was to draw in people who didn't have air conditioning but who lived near movie theaters that did.
I never understood why summer was so dry for video games, either.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyIn an example of that, Lawbreakers was released last month in August last month & it totally bombed.
There are several reasons I heard why its a dry month for video-games & one of which is that its after the Steam Summer Sale so no one has any money to spend on games at that point after the sale ends.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Estimates put It at grossing $51 million on Friday (with another $25 million from the foreign box office), and people are estimating it'll have a $100 million + domestic opening weekend. For a horror movie, that is staggeringly huge.
I see.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyDefinitely earned it. Between Get Out, Split and IT, we've been blessed with some surprisingly good horror movies this year.

Well, it is a known IP, it has a great marketing and it has really good timing. After one month of "eh" movies, everything good is welcome.
Yeah "It" is a classic and there's been a lot of attention on the project for a while. Combined with the great reviews and it's no wonder it's doing so well. As a big fan of horror and the novel I'm highly looking forward to seeing it.
So it's looking like It will have a debut around $117 million domestic. That makes it the largest opening weekend for any horror movie, the largest for any movie opening in September, and the second largest for any R-rated movie (behind only Deadpool). The fact that it's debuted in more theaters than any other R-rated movie probably helped, as did the lack of competition: there was only one other new, wide-release movie this weekend, Home Again, which is pulling in a little less than $10 million domestic.
In international markets, Spider-Man: Homecoming has just pulled in $70 million from its debut in China, giving it a worldwide gross of $823 million, narrowly beating out Wonder Woman.
It will be interesting to observe if Homecoming will race ahead of Got G Vol 2 now.
For that matter, I wonder if Wonder Woman will pass BvS.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. Most likely not, it would have to muster extra 70 million for it (however considering WW's performance so far it's not 100%).
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesIt's already opened in every market it's going to open in, hasn't it?
Only reason Spider-Man: Homecoming got a huge bump this late in the game is because China used some of their protectionist laws to keep it from premiering until after summer had finished.
It was also late in Japan, but that is pretty normal. But yeah, Wonder Woman won't make that much more money now...but the Chinese market for Spider-man has been traditionally huge, so it could well still overtake Got G Vol 2 (and ironically the protectionists laws actually helped the movie because now it will be released in a less crowded market).
It is already past 200 million. That's a really big profit for a 35 million budget.
I finally realized how ironic it is that Hollywood blames Rotten Tomatoes while a movie who gets a high RT percentage will gladly proclaim it in ads sometimes. :/
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencySo, Spider-man: Homecoming is now the highest grossing comic book movie of the year - at least until Thor 3 and Justice league are released.
GotG 2 still has two million on it… for now.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. It's only a matter of the official numbers being released. The Chinese market did the trick.
Maybe the Ninjago movie won't do well at the box office...
Dunkirk has now grossed $516 million, which makes it the highest grossing WWII movie, unadjusted for inflation.
Adjusted, it's probably still Saving Private Ryan.

Actually, Deadpool has grossed over 200 million dollars more than that. Even just counting North American box office, IT has 272 million, while Deadpool has 363 million.
The article calls It the highest grossing horror film.

The conventional wisdom was that people have less disposable income since Summer jobs tend to have ended by that point, and that families are too busy preparing for things like school to bother going to the movies in large numbers.
And then of course there was the view that (as we're seeing now) people would be kind of exhausted by all the big releases from May-July and not have the desire to see anymore big movies. That's part of the reason why the first Guardians of the Galaxy' success was so inexplicable. It wasn't just that it was a movie based on a comic book 99 percent of the planet had never heard of, but also that it was released at the time of the year people are supposedly tired of big blockbusters.
