I learned about that one on one of Kevin Smith's podcasts - the one with Ralph Garman rather than Marc Bernardin if I recall correctly. It was in the "Movies that will suck" segment.

Looks like it's gonna. [lol]

... well, this is disappointing. I was expecting for something like a war of Dracula Truck, Frankenstein Truck, Wolfman Truck and Mummy Truck, which at least might have been So Bad, It's Good.

And that trailer felt like it'd never end.

When I first read the premise and saw some of the gifs, I thought it was the most awesome fucking thing I've ever seen.

Then I watched the trailer and I'm not surprised it became a flop before even being released.

Finding Dory is the third film of the year to pass $1 billion.

Not really a surprise...it only took so long because of the delayed release schedule for the international market.

[up] That was before it was released in North America and took off there. When the numbers from there tickled in, well, the international markets more or less only had to match them.

The Secret Life of Pets is the sixth film of 2016 to enter the all-time top 50.

Something about this year's box office is just isn't as interesting as that of last year.

I actually think it is very interesting to see how difficult it has become to convince the audience to watch a movie. Big name director? Nope, nobody cares. Big name actor? It's an argument, but it might not be enough. Big name franchise? Only if the makers didn't p... off the audience beforehand and actually deliver something worth to watch. Big Name Studio? Only if it is Disney and Co.

Big Name Studio? Only if it is Disney and Co.

I'd expect that to change next year. Looking at 2017's schedule, all of the major studios have at least one surefire blockbuster.

[up] Disney has Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales & Star Wars: Episode VII. Universal has Fast 8 & Despicable Me 3. WB has Kong: Skull Island & Justice League. Paramount has Transformers: The Last Knight. Fox has Logan & War for the Planet of the Apes. Sony has Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Right, I forgot that Homecoming is technically a Sony movie.

I wouldn't bet on Transformers...I know, people have said that for years, but between all the Superhero stuff, the next transformers might loose a large chunk of its audience. And speaking of Superheroes, when it comes to the WB output I would bet on Wonder Woman over Justice League, and both movies aren't really a sure bet...the patience of the fans is wearing thin. I also wouldn't bet on Kong.

Logan? Oh, right, the Wolverine movie...yeah, I doubt that is will do that well.

Looking at the all the movies coming out in Summer 2017 (specifically June and July), do you think we'll have a repeat from this year of too many blockbusters crammed in leading to too many disappointments?

[up] Who knows? 2015 had a bunch of blockbusters & relatively few box office disappointments (fewer than 2016, anyway).

It's mostly inflation and the rising ticket prices, though...

Five films cracked a billion, three of those went over 1.5 billion and one of those three went over 2 billion.

And yet Disney has already broken the box office record of last year. Not that I am surprised...well, I am a little bit surprised that they managed to do it before Doctor Strange has even been released in the US, but not that they managed to do it again.

Speaking of Doctor Strange, will it or Trolls make more money? I found it interesting that they're being released on the same day.
