There are worlds slightly different from our own. This is the story of one of them.

Gaia is a mirror of our own Earth. It's very similar to ours at first glance. However, on Gaia, the supernatural is real. Psychic powers are hard to learn, but there are people that use them in their daily jobs. There are ghosts, werewolves, and vampires. And studying these creatures are Paranaturaists.

Name: Kamome 'Bami' Tsurubami

Gender: Male

Age: 13

Appearance: Tsurubami is a young boy of low height and frail build, with spiky, snow-white hair that spots a single cowlick. He hides his golden eyes behind the pair of blue-rimmed glasses that he - apparently - reguraly changes. His personal collection of glasses are noted to be quite large and spots some rare exemplars. He - by his own admission - is a huge fan of glasses.

Tsurubami always has a permanent bored expression on his face. It seems, even the air around him feels heavier and a near-constant aura of laziness that surrounds this boy makes everyone a little bit drowsy.

Kamome Tsurubami

Personality: Tsurubami is an extremely unmotivated person that - however - is said to be actually quite smart. He rarely reacts to something and - by his own words - hates to talk to strangers. Nevertheless, he is actually a rather sheltered person that has some troubles in expressing his emotions.

History: Tsurubami was born in Kyoto, but immigrated to the US when he was five years old. He was an ill child that prefered to stay home and read books. However, he was always troubled by the sense of constant loneliness in his life - for his parents were always busy and most of his relatives stayed in Japan. Therefore, he grew without any proper social contacts, but - after starting his middle-school - suddenly joined the P-Club. He never told anyone the reason, but deep inside he knew: "I want to become friends with someone new..."

Powers:

Rescue Hand - an ability to know object's name and history. Also, Tsurubami can channel the previous wielder's skills or personality by touching the said object, but not their physical abilitites. Occasionally, some unusually strong souls could posses his body without his approval

Mythology Expert - Tsurubami knows a lot about youkai - Japanese monsters - and kami - traditional gods of Japan - because of his unique heritage. According to the Shinto religion, the world is inhabited by eight million kami and even more various species of youkai, so this knowledge might actually be somewhat important...

Looks pretty neat. You get bonus points for setting the RP in Arizona (even if it's not the bit I'm from). I'll have a sheet up in the next few days.

Okay definite interest. I was looking for a rather lighthearted RP and this fits pretty much what I was thinking down to the letter.

• Name: Ren Sanders
• Gender: Male
• Age: 12; just trivia's sake lets say his birthday is the 13th of November.
• Appearance: Ren is of about average height for his age, his overall built is strong but not bulky. Little visible definition of his strength. He has long straight golden blond hair, reaching down long enough for his fringe to cover his eyes. His eyes are a marine blue in color. His face is rounded and deeply freckled but his skin is otherwise fair. He almost always has his small beaded necklace on, a staple mark of his appearance. His natural expression is a soft smile and he gives off a naturally energetic and positive aura. With aid from the internet I also have a portrait generated though I might create lots of them based on his expression, outfit and the scene. He is mute so expression is more than verbal.[1]◊
• Personality: Ren is near- mute due to damage to his vocal cords and while he technically can create some words it is uncomfortable, even painful to do so even for a short time so he generally doesn't. Despite being mute he is exceptionally expressive and energetic. Ren makes a lot of gestures and facial expressions in place of words, moves around a lot making motions and similar; even if especially around strangers their can be the occasional frustration of not being understood. Of course sometimes he will sometimes just write down what he is thinking, especially if its something he is unsure about how to convey or if it is just very long of complicated. He is generally quite playful and optimistic doing games and practical jokes with his friends and family. As a side-effect of his swordsmanship training he does have a serious streak in him however, most notibly when doing sports or swordsmanship.
• History: Ren is half-Japanese, his mother immigrating before he was born and meeting his father. When he was born he had complications with his vocal cords development rendering his effectively though not completely mute. He has otherwise grown up as any almost any other regular child. He actively partakes in many sports and has always done well in school. He has rarely seen his father since he was seven or eight years old, he himself being a paranatural investigator himself. Due to his heritage he developed a lot of interest in Japanese culture, media and swordsmanship though that is not to say he doesn't enjoy his american lifestyle. His family has always been rather well-off, to some even rich and as he is a only child he has been quite spoiled, his mother giving him almost anything he asks for.
• Powers:
  • Silent and swift swordsmanship: Ren has spent a lot of time practicing swordsmanship, mostly from his mother but later also with a few clubs and regional contests for martial arts and swordsmanship. As a result he is quite physically fit and very quick on his feet, overall making him a very capable and skilled athlete as well. Not to a super-human level but still pretty damn good. Of-course when it comes to his swordmanship he doesn't USUALLY carry around his real sword, instead a wooded training sword or just uses the martial arts training instead, again what trouble is a middleschool student going to get into; right, right..?
  • Ren(ding) Response: Due to his intense training, reaction time and possible fascination with Japanese media culture. Ren can with some effort deflect most energy attacks or projectile based attacks he is aware of. (I say most since he cant do it with bullets or a fast paced assault; it isn't magic after all.) If he uses his real sword over his training sword or I suppose his fists, he can effectively slice or 'rend' these attacks in two. Splitting instead of deflecting these attacks are very awesome looking of course but again, the alternative is using his fists or wooded sword to deflect a psychic fireball which is probably not the smartest idea. He mostly uses this in sports like baseball to catch or hit away the ball.
• Notes and trivia
  • His mother Kitsumi "Kelly" Sanders (formally Kitsumi Maki) left Japan around sixteen years ago at the age of 19 after her last remaining family there, her uncle died in a car accident. She decided to go to the US seeking a new start, a new beginning, plus she always had a fascination with the west even a a kid. Two years later after moving to Watertown AZ, she met Adrian Sanders who over the next year would become her fiancee and then the next her husband. She befell pregnant during her wedding night and nine months later in deep winter Ren. A mother at the respectable age of 23 her child became her world. Now twelve years later at the age of 35, she works as a assistant teacher at the local middle school. This is more of a passion for her over a source of income. She has dark hair and marine blue eyes.
  • His father Adrian Sanders grew up in Watertown in a large family with two brothers and a sister. Currently age 37 Ren doesn't know a lot about him, he has golden blond hair and jade green eyes. He used to around a lot in his life but then his work as a Paranaturalist caused him to move around a lot. Not wanting to abandon his hometown, families inherited home or make his wife and son move however he simply moved out to a apartment in LA where he is currently stationed. Most of the money the family has, which is a decent amount comes from his work or the leftover inheritance from Rens grandfather.
  • His home is rather large and expensive considering who actually lives there; the inherited home from Rens grandfather it was meant as a home for his large family and relatives to all be able to stay in for family reunions. Yet since Rens father moved away it has gotten a lot less activity except for the occasional visit from his cousins. It is one of the few things that actually make Ren a little embarrassed when people find out the first time. The house has many bedrooms and bathrooms, two garages (One of which has been converted into a dojo since his father moved away) a large yard both in-front and behind the house which to Ren's dissatisfaction often needs mowing. There is a swimming pool in the back yard as well though to Ren's relief, his mother cleans it. (The drawback of a large house, someone has to clean it!) It has has a attic and basement though the prior of the two has always been off-limits and locked by his father. Apparently his old Paranatural office was up there. Ren himself has a rather large bedroom with a small balcony looking over the back-yard and pool. Based on his cousin's experience he would recommend not trying to dive off into the pool from his room however.
  • Ren's favorite color is teal blue, he had his bedroom painted in that color since he was young.
  • Ren is heavily allergic to bee stings. Not really a common-issue but its a thing.
  • Ren is really damn good at whistling. Kinda a skill he learnt trying to catch peoples attentions at a distance on the account of his muteness.

I saw this only a few hours after you originally posted and I have been psyching myself all day till I could get to my computer again.

• Name: Rosie Athena
• Gender: F
• Age: 13
• Appearance: Rosie◊ is lanky, short, and gangly, but also full of vitality and energy at all times. PSI energy leaks off her like fumes when she gets remotely excited, and she's never not touching or moving or flicking something.
• Personality: Rosie is in her DBZ Phase. Her parents haven't stepped in to stop it—they think she'll have something to learn from it, or she'll think it's funny when she's older. It's also kept her hot-blooded and motivated, so that's nice—her grades have never been better, studying like she's in the hyperbolic time chamber or whatever. Rosie sees her activity with the Paranatural Study Club as an obligation for people as powerful as she is. She thinks people are given power for a reason.
• History: Rosie's parents got married young and had her just as young. Determined not to be like their own folks, she was raised by Cool Parents who were really into everything she did, ready to support her every step of the way. They weren't that wealthy, but that didn't matter much to any of them. She developed her powers at the age of eight when she got nailed by a truck crossing the street. Her family came into quite a lot of money from settling the lawsuit out of court, which let them move to Watertown and get set up with a good house in a good neighborhood. Her dad was also super excited about DBZ when it started coming on TV, and bonded with Rosie over it.
• Powers:
  • PSI Boltcannon: Rosie can fire bolts of PSI energy from her fingertips. The bolts resemble massive rivets with wide, flared heads; the shaft of the bolt is immaterial, but the head is not. Bolts will stick in their targets and carry them backwards with tremendous force, possibly nailing them to walls and floors until removed.
  • PSI Lifters: Rosie can materialize up to three massive lifting cranes made of translucent PSI energy out of her back. The arms are slow, heavy, strong, and about ten feet long. Rosie can see through eyes in the "palm" of each crane, but cannot feel anything.

I like her! Accepted! Under one condition! All three of those powers are a bit much. Get rid of one, and she's good. She can get whatever power you ditch in the RP.

• Name: Jamie Thompson
• Gender:female
• Age: 13
• Appearance: 5'5" with a lanky frame and pale skin that's slightly tanned. She has a dirty blond hair that grows just a shy away from her shoulders with her fringe mostly covering her left eye.
• History:
  • Her parents used to be punks back in their youth, back when hardcore punk was on the rise and bands like Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains were all the rage in the scene. In fact, they both met during one of the Adolescents's concert and they hit it off ever since, and then her mom conceive Jamie. Despite the panics and fears of the future, they decided to settle down and be a family, with financial disgruntled help from both of their parents.
  • Despite the rough start, both of her parents were determined to raise a happy child. Jamie grown up to be rather playful, if a bit reckless regarding her safety. She regularly gets hurt over time and it's increasing as she got older but she soon became resistant to the pain as she goes on some crazy shenanigans with her friends or her parents like diving into a pool from the roof or breaking a board with her head like the karate dudes on TV.
  • When she was 10 she picked up skateboarding as her main hobby when she took a peak into a skateboarding magazine, which delighted her dad a lot since he's a skateboarding fan since Tony Hawk and Christian Hosoi are rivals with each other in the vert days. With the help of her dad, she managed to learn all the basic tricks, and beyond. She can ollie higher, learn tricks faster and can last for hours if she didn't get bored.
  • So why did she join the Paranormal club? She's not really sure of the reason herself but she reckoned that it'll be kinda fun to hang out with a different sorts of group that she usually hang around with.
• Powers:
  • PSI Endurance: She can survive a fall that would've wrecked a full grown man, let alone a 13 year old girl, without breaking any bones. That's the furthest extent that she knew of this power. She can still get cut, bruised and all that nasty stuff but she'll just brush the pain off while the other kids would have bawl their eyes out.
  • PSI Legs: Jamie is stronger, faster and nimbler on her legs than the usual blokes, even the athletic ones.

A Scientific Organization that is kind of like the Illuminati, but with no political power, works for an Eldritch Abomination and is composed of 55 people (10 people for each department + director of department)

55 is a lot of people to go through! I like the idea, but it sounds like an RP unto itself. Why not make that an RP of your own? I'd join it!

Four characters already accepted and its been a single day? Well good to see this is likely to go through.

Since our characters likely knew each-other somewhat already according to the opening; especially considering all of your characters are the same age and could share classes. Any of you got any interesting ideas? We are not in a exact rush but getting the ideas out is probably a good thing. For example with Jamie's PSI legs power and my swift swordsmanship, I could imagine some playful but competitive rivalry on who is faster in the club.

For our GM, how big is the town? I'm not looking for exact figures just something for context if that would be okay.

Rescue Hand is a PSI Power Kamome developed when he was a lot more younger, after surviving a near-crippling illness.

That's a good idea. Actually, I was in need of someone who will fill the place of Kamome's only friend. Someone energetic and out-going enough to persuade him to do some stuff instead of spending all his time reading books in his room.

I and Ren are willing to volunteer as energetic friend tribute if you would like! Plus your character is japanese, mine half-japanese, I could see us having known each-other before the club. Perhaps our parents knowing each-others. Plus assuming you can speak Japanese, secret messages nobody else can understand! (since even if Ren is mute he can understand and read/write it!)

Yes, that would work just great! A childhood friend, perhaps? Taking into consideration that Kamome was five, when he moved, they could be friends for about eight years. I must admit, they will make quite a pair - a mute, but expressive boy and his dull friend. I like it. I adore it, actually... But what about their relationships with clubmates. To me, Kamome is someone who will ominously sit in the corner, while being too shy to try himself at socializing. What about Ren?

Ren is the ironic polar opposite. Loves diving in with the groups, socializing and trying to drag others in and join; constantly trying to express himself a lot despite not actually being able to speak. If he could speak properly I imagine he would be the social butterfly who didn't stop talking at the center of the group.

I do love the potential pair as childhood friends, your depressing aura and my energetic one almost balancing out.

Edit: Doesn't your post say he immigrated at age nine?

It's a fairly large town. Not a huge city. Like , no skyscrapers or anything. But there are two other middle schools. It's a popular stopping point for people on their way to see the Grand Canyon.

I'm going to have to decline. Letting people run things in my R Ps never really works out and has more often then not ended them. Even if you were to prove to be the exception, if I allowed you, I'd have to let other people do it. Sorry.

• Name: Patricia Marianne Yvonne "Patti" Turner
• Gender: Female
• Age: 14
• Appearance: Patti's a short stout girl, fair skinned with freckles. Her face is roundish, her eyes green-gray, she has a button nose and short black hair, usually slicked back. Usually wears shades, washed out leather jackets with t-shirts, sneakers and baggy cargo pants.
• Personality: Patti is the quintessential cool tomboy, with a rebellious rocker edge to her. On one hand she's chill, somewhat detached and slightly cynical. On other she's very cocky and arrogant, taking a lot of pride in her abilities and family. That pride brings her to be a bit of a show off. She speaks with a faded cockney accent.
• History: Patti's the 4th and smaller child in a family of bards from good old Great Britain. Yes, Bards, as in people that channel their PSI abilities through music and use tricked out instruments for weapons. Her father in particular comes from a long storied line of bards. Her mother went into the profession self taught and originally sought Patti's dad as a mentor, but love bloomed and they married, soon having twin girls as their firstborn. Eventually, soon after their second child, a boy this time, a friend of the family invited them to found a new bard's college over on the states. Her parents were disillusioned by the college they were part of and took this chance to start anew. The college was established in a big city in Arizona and the couple, not wanting a life in the loud, noisy city again, settled in the smaller nearby town of Watertown, where they had their fourth and last daughter; Patti. She was trained in the bardic arts since very young, her parents taking advantage of the crowd pleasing personality the little girl had since young. She found rock pretty early(9-10 years old) in life and fell in love. Though her parents were more attuned to jazz and blues they cherished the fact that their little girl had found some genre they could use to teach her in the bard's way. This didn't sat that well with Patti, her parents, though tolerant were overly demanding, and she resented them, blowing off their methods and and trying to make her own. Even through her rocky first teen years would make her a bit cynical, in line with her 'cool' personality, she still remain a popular person at school, even if she's more likely to be jamming out at the corner store than being in class most of the times.
• Powers:
  • Sky-bound Stratocaster: Patti's weapon of choice, bought for her by her father. It is, as it says in the tin, a white over sky blue Fender Stratocaster. Said guitar was modified by her older sisters to be durable enough to be a viable bludgeoning weapon, but it also has a modified anti-grav engine inside. Said engine doesn't exactly make her fly but allows their little sister improved mobility, through high jumps and gliding. Patti's really caring about her instrument, as such she always has it around, often in a case. It comes with a miniature amp she hangs from her belt.
  • PSI First Accord; Sonic Boom: A modification of the Turner family's "Sonic Arrow", she took it on her own and through practice she developed this technique. In this she channels her PSI energy through her guitar and releases a short range burst of sonic energy directed vaguely in front of her, though some slips out around her. And yes, she can do it in quick succession. No, it ain't pretty looking when she does, but admittedly it sounds pretty rocking.

Also also I wonder why there are so many Japanese immigrants? Maybe something crazy happened in Japan! Like anime became real!

If anime became real, that would certainly turn my characters interest in Japanese media to a different perspective.

I don't have any fun ideas for a reason. If their even is one. Could just be a coincidence, or maybe a army of psionic cats took over. Actually maybe giving the GM ideas is a bad thing. o-o
