Yeah I was turning it into Jelly. And the only reason I ain't making money is that I was using some of the fruit to bribe Elliott.

I'm so very far from the greenhouse. Stupid gold crops requirement. [lol]

I just finished the mine cart and it is a godsend...

Also practice does make perfect, I was able to catch harder fish like eel and catfish now even without iridium pole.

At this rate I might actually get the community center working before grandpa's first coming... at the start of fall I was like, "I can't do it grandpa, it's impossible, I can't do it... please understand." to completely doable.

NOW, if only the traveling cart will sell me puffer fish and the desert fish... better check it every week...

I prefer the fruit cave because it means I don't need fruit trees for the bundles. Mushrooms can be mined.

I can see the advantages for that for my Community Center run. I'm not going to be able to finish the bundles until Fall of Y2; it's mostly that damned bulletin board and its requests for truffles and pomegranates, and while truffles are going to be slow almost no matter what I do, the fruitcave would've helped with the poms.

OTOH, decently fancy house, waifu (Penny), automated outdoor crop watering, lots of animals, pigs growing up, and a greenhouse with iridium sprinklers. Life is good.

(Contrast with the Joja run: sprinklers, greenhouse, and steel tools in Fall Y1, but the house is still a log cabin and the town infrastructure is still crappy. The Joja mindset is great for managing expenditures: if it can't bring in additional money, don't expend resources!)

Indeed.

Of course, if you get a truffle from the cart guy, you're all clear and you don't have to trifle with truffles - but I get a pig in Y2 anyway. The friendship bundle is something you finish off for the sake of finishing it.

BTW guys, I hate the vault... it seems out of place compared to the enjoyable community center fetch quests... where I always want to expand infrastructure to get the next item/s on the list, but now my aquarium Bundle is lacking that jerkass sandfish, and I have to either pray to the Cart Gods, or pay up to the vault and probably also the iridium rod...

I don't mind the vault as a part of the CC, or the part where the desert is cash-gated.

Don't worry about the sandfish, because you'll catch it when you get there.

My problem with cash gating is how it takes away cash from improvements that can produce other requirements (e.g. barn/coop upgrade, particularly for that silly bulletin board bundle, and anything that requires a desert trip).

Sayyyy, this glittering boulder that is gonna be removed by my fishing bundles anyway... it only unlocks panning? Ok well, no need to rush that I guess. But I might be able to use the reward from the exotic fish bundle...

It's almost spring and it's time to plant as many parsnips as possible to get the golds, then move all my infrastructure to the greenhouse.

I wonder if I can make grandpa happy before he arrives at the end of year 2...

That's why I say that you really need to bust your ass for your first two seasons (cash in Spring, skill in Summer) if you want four candles by the end of Y2. Alternatively, you can just relax and take the game at your pace.

Though damn, the two-candle evaluation is backhanded and passive-aggressive.

Malco from the Gungeon Since: Oct, 2015

Well, besides the hiccups in Y1, I think I am doing fine, I can do it. Y1 is ending and I only have 150k total earnings right now, but I think I can snowball from here on out after the greenhouse is up.

I kinda followed your advice about animals (just not as optimized) and coop/barn only went up this winter. I will consider the pigs and rabbits and second house upgrade as luxuries that will be done by fall.

Thanks Emily, by the way, for giving me some wool, that saves a lot of time.

So, 12 points in 4 candles = 7 from 1m earnings, 3 from community center being fixed, 1 from marriage (and I'm almost shacked up with Elliott or Sebastian), and 1 from something else (probably the house upgrade), so not too hard. My only regret is the greenhouse not being up by winter, because not enough parsnips and melons won't be gold...

You should be able to get the Skull Key if you do much mining, and likely the Sewer Key too.

Skull Key is pretty easy to do—just beeline for the mine bottom, deploying bombs and staircases as needed. I can consistently get the Sewer Key in Y1 too, though maybe I've just had good luck with drops and geodes.

In my CC run I'm pretty much set. Got insanely lucky with a Prismatic Shard in the Quarry, which trivializes the early bits of the Skull Cavern. With a lot of fishing and some judicious use of cash crops, I've found it pretty easy to pay up for the vault. In the Joja run, I've unlocked both the bus and the greenhouse (75K whoo!) before Winter Y1 and I'm pretty sure I'm good, money-wise. Maybe now Lady Casanova Katrin can afford to spring for quality-of-life improvements, and think about settling down with one of the three people she's been dating...

Oh, Skull Key is a point too? Well I'm already done with that as well.

I've also been petting the cat everyday.

So I do have a little buffer if somehow I don't make it to 1 million. (200,000 net worth and counting.)

Starting Y2 with about 30k gold.

Plan so far in Spring:

  • Pray for lightning storm every day
  • Spring Day 1-4 parsnips rush + tulips near beehives
  • Day 4 unlock greenhouse; move all sprinklers to greenhouse, ruhubarbs and cauliflowers outside + trees/coffee/ancient seeds in greenhouse
  • Day 10 whatever money is left, mass strawberries in greenhouse
  • Some time after, but before Summer:
    • Pay 25k remainder for desert bus
    • Plant Kale for fun
    • Plant Tulips for fun
    • Upgrade watering can to gold

Plan in Summer:

  • Must plant red cabbage
  • Community center is done (stupid pigs and rabbits...)

Somehow I failed to ask this questions:

  • Does Pierre start selling all seasons of crops when greenhouse is up? (Trees he does already.)
  • Can you get evaluated before Y2 end by depositing a diamond?

Unless you're mass-producing quality sprinklers (at which point it's a moot point), you might find it hard to get the two-day bloc needed to upgrade your watering can. Of all your tools it's the most difficult to upgrade, solely because if you get unlucky with timing you can lose a lot of crops.

I've found that winter of year one is a good time to phase out the watering can and phase in quality sprinklers, upgrading to iridium when resources allow. Quality sprinklers are perfectly adequate for most purposes; iridium is a nice bonus. Iron, coal, gold, and quartz (from the caves and recycled from junk) shouldn't be short.

Meanwhile, I am happy to report that the money train sans brakes that is the Joja path has begun rolling in earnest with starfruits, ancient fruits, and fruit trees replacing the blueberry and cranberry plants in the greenhouse. Now my biggest challenge is building enough kegs to keep up with starfruits popping up every eight/nine days. (Deluxe speed-grow + agriculturist = 35% off growth time. Artisan might've still been faster in bringing the money, though...)

Alternately, you can upgrade your watering can in winter, assuming you don't have a convenient rainstorm before then.

Malco from the Gungeon Since: Oct, 2015

About the watering can and sprinklers: It never rains in winter, so you will need sprinklers to water the winter seeds while upgrading the can. But in my personal experience, by winter y1 I can easily farm the mine for additional Quality Sprinkler material, already.

The one downside with Quality Sprinkler is that it still doesn't allow giant crops to randomly spawn unless there's an unwatered gap to be manually watered.

Right now I have more than enough quality sprinklers for the entire greenhouse, and then some. Once the trees are mature I'll get to move the kegs there.

So I answered the question, Pierre still doesn't sell off-season seeds after the greenhouse is up.

And I got lucky with getting a rabbit's foot from the traveling cart, so no rabbits, and my next target is piggies for truffles, which will require two barn upgrades, and the long wait for red cabbage and 3 apples begins...

Have I been saying I hate the bulletin board bundle? With a vengeance?

Deluxe speed-gro doesn't make repeatedly bearing plants bear fruit more right?

I wish it helped trees grow faster though, as my machinery isn't really going up until summer thanks to the delay in trees and strawberries growing. Been doing potatoes outdoors in the meantime.

On the relationship side, Sebastian first got to 10 hearts thanks to all that Sashimi, meanwhile Elliott got left behind. Emily, Leah and Penny also join the quest for 10 heart events.

Too bad Marnie wasn't a candidate, she was my first crush when I first got the game...

winter seeds

Ahahahaha. That's why I find it quite easy to skip sprinklers. Winter 1, to me, is for nonfarming stuff or else for animals, and winter seeds are a side project at most.

Money is money y'know. [lol]

That is still true, I spent the winter mostly chopping and mining to coop and barn+upgrades.

I finally broke 999 wood at one point.

Winter sprinklers + winter wild seeds usually works out pretty well for me. On both runs winter was the time I began mass-producing and then deploying Quality Sprinklers, which work just as well on winter seeds as on anything else. (The return on crocuses, snow yams, and winter roots was barely worthwhile, but crystal fruits are pretty good as Preserves Jar material.)

Summer 10, Year 2

Mission accomplished, Community Center is donna-done-done. Sitting at 560k net worth with Starfruit on the way.

TODO:

  • Way more kegs and vats!
  • Tie the knot with Elliott or Sebastian at fall
  • Wait for the witch to come and give me a black chicken
  • Just cruise to the end of Y2.

Also, I seem to have unlocked the Beloved Farmer achievement even if some of the so-called "10-heart" villagers are actually 8-star bachelor/ettes (it was also Maru's birthday and I gave her a strawberry). The Luau is tomorrow so there'll be even more free hearts.

Also regarding that black chicken... is the fact a dinosaur egg is incubating right now stopping the black chicken from coming? (Also, the coop is not full.)

Been damn hooked to this game! Already at the start of Fall of Year 2, and my farm is doing quite well. I really needed an easy-going and relaxing game like that.
