Well that pretty much took off with the club.
And it's instantaneous, nothing slow, remember the spell works weirdly, if you just look at yourself you still see a costume. Others see the character.

So if your character were to look at himself, he'd see a costume, but others would see him as Venom Snake?
Would his airsoft guns thus behave as actual weapons, then, just he doesn't see them as real?

Yep. That was stated in the first post on the Signups and the Interest page.
The airsoft guns still look like airsoft guns to their owners, but behave like real guns mostly. A lot about the spell is meant to confuse the characters and their players to no end.
