It's a parody of the old painting of God creating Man, with Light being offered the apple by Ryuk as a symbol of his temptation to use the Death Note. Of course, all of that relies on familiarity with both the painting and Death Note.
I'm waffling on whether to say it's bad enough to cut outright, but something more clear would be an improvement.
I don't know, I haven't seen the show and I still got the message. I mean it's copying a pretty famous painting. A bigger shot would be nice, does anybody knows from what episode the image comes from?
Too small and not indicative of what's going on, it should be pulled regardless of whether we find a replacement.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? Here's◊ the original; there's a much better version but it's watermarked.
Appears as a broken link.
Damn, I was afraid that might go wonky. Here's◊ a direct comparison between the original and the DN take.
I think the image in Forbidden Fruit is actually better for this page. Otherwise, this◊ could also work.

You can never go wrong with the classics.
I don't think knowledge of the biblical reference is actually required to get the gist of the trope, so I don't think it's bad enough to pull. However, it could be a lot clearer and higher-quality, so I support replacing it with the full lower-half image from 7. Even without knowing anything about either the work or the reference it looks like a shackled mortal is being tempted with an apple by some evil deity, so it works.

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"The quality upgrade and larger crop in 7 works for me.
At wiki size:
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"It's great.
I think it's good enough.
(Annoyed grunt)Here's a tighter crop.
OP is happy with 16.
^^ That's better.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Definitely an improvement over the current one.

I'd almost call that a quality upgrade.
Check out my fanfiction!16 nails it.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI'd be down to pull without replacement.
This is a clear artifact of How About Them Apples, and the symbolism, faux or otherwise, is really confusing. I'd be more forgiving if it weren't for how awful How About Them Apples was.
Especially since if someone is familiar with the original image, it's got nothing to do with temptation whatsoever. And knowledge of Death Note doesn't help because apples are just Ryuk's Trademark Favorite Food. There's no symbolism in the work.
So yeah, I'm tempted to pull due to heavy amounts of Not An Example compounded with that fact that this whole trope was made because the original trope was too vague.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. This is not the Trope Repair Shop. How Do You Like Them Apples having been a poorly defined trope has no bearing on whether Tempting Apple (which is one of the results of a TRS thread about the former) can have an image. In fact, you'd have to establish misuse of Tempting Apple first, not pointing towards misuse of a defunct trope.
Second, Not An Example is not considered a valid reason for pulling an image without replacement either. It has to be a good illustration first, and a good example second (that doesn't mean we can't look for one that encompasses both, though). There's clearly religious imagery at work even without biblical knowledge on the part of the viewer.

(Annoyed grunt)16 is a lot better. It can probably be swapped for free as a quality upgrade.

I struggle to find meaning in current. Can we find a better illustration for this trope?
