Does Not Illustrate: Gangplank Galleon

The only panels here that are indicative are Brawl, DKC 2, Kirby, and maybe Super Mario RPG. The Castlevania one is too hard to make out, and the Super Mario World one is some kind of haunted underwater level, which is not what the trope is.

I agree, some of them aren't all that clear. If possible, three or four wider screencaps would work better than this collage.

I only see the issue with the Mario pictures. Castlevania is indicative enough to me.

I disagree; the Castlevania 3 one looks like the bow of a wooden ship, and the Super Mario World screen is from a stage called "Sunken Ghost Ship", so it's technically still related (although probably the one most liable for swapping out).

Need something that is not 2 or 2 and a half D.

6.1 > 6.2 if we're to add one because you see obviously-a-pirate Hook, and it's much more obvious that Sora's on a ship besides.

I find it a little much biased towards Mario games and related franchises, so I'd swap those first.

And yes, 6.1 is better than 6.2.

Why do we need a montage? A single image will show more of the setting while (hopefully) looking less cluttered.

Video game level tropes all have montages of like 6 different variations usually different dimensions, genres and look.

We still need a couple more good replacements; three of the current six are pretty shaky, so two new ones other than KH would be nice.

The fact that it's widespread is not a reason to keep it. Especially not when a lot of Video Game Settings have a single image.

Frankly all six look fine to me. We don't need to replace them at all.

Looks fine to me too, but here is a version with the lower-right frame replaced by 6.1. (It's not the same reason as One Mario Limit, but there should only be one Mario!)

The Mario one should still be replaced; it doesn't look like a pirate ship, it looks like an underwater level, which is a separate level concept.

Looks like it's a ship and it's underwater, to me. I don't think it needs to be replaced.

Actually, I'd have replaced the Super Mario World image instead of the Super Mario RPG one if we were going to enforce One Mario Limit.

Well... yes, that was kind of apparent. Still, I think it's the clearer example of an old-timey wooden ship between the two.

I agree that RPG > World for the Mario picture because the ship part is a little more obvious. The World picture fits Under the Sea better anyway.

I personally find the quality of the 2nd mario shot to be lacking, i can tell there are some generic barrels but it isn't obvious that this is in a ship.

...yeah, I wouldn't go so far as to remove both Mario images.
