Burning Forest

"Just trying to figure out what Tairee wants us to do"

Cole used his special powers to read the dragon's mind. The creature didn't want anything besides capturing Tairee.

Rex looked disappointed, the dragon had no useful information "Oh, nothing about weak points?"

Guess whatever was on top of the beanstalk had something to do with a dragon.

"I bet it has something to do with the beanstalk. Come on guys, grab onto my wings"

Before Morty could even try to do anything else, the entire group descended into pandemonium. Some of them were running away from the dragon- Morty included- some of them were running toward the dragon, including a big blue guy that looked scarily familiar, and Cole was trying to read the dragon's mind? Then Mis Tairee screamed something about a "swooooo"... which was probably referring to a sword. Knights killed dragons with them, right? Maybe? Again, things would have been more helpful if Morty's fairy tale knowledge hadn't been undermined by years of parental bickering.

"I-what-w-w-what to vases have to do with anything?" he shouted at Cole ,doing his best to make his voice heard over the mayhem. "Okay, you know what, forget it, I'll get Rick." he announced to anyone that was nearby note

The ever-shifting path wound down around a nearby hill, towards a familiar looking cottage...

"Rick!" Morty kicked open the door to find his grandfather -still clad in a leather labcoat and gloves [[note]] admittedly, they were more or less entirely stained with soot at this point- slumped over at his table, snoring contentedly in a puddle of what was hopefully his own drool. "Rick! WAKE UP, RICK!"

"Mhwr?" The elderly scientist blinked a few times and looked around, trying his hardest to focus in on his grandson. "Oh, hey, uh, Morty."

"S-S-she says she needs a sword, Rick! I think! We, you, gotta build a sword!"

"A sword?" Rick slurped some of the drool back up into his mouth and fumbled for a hammer. "Morty, y-you're not makin' much sense here. Who needs a sword?"

"Rick, t-there's a dragon!"

"A dragon?" Rick staggered up out of his chair and over to something massive occupying a corner of the workshop. Whatever it was, it'd been covered by a heavy tarp.

"Yeah, Rick, there's, there's a real big dragon and he's just-" Morty rummaged through a pile of gears and iron struts, trying to find anything sword-like. "-I mean, he's got two heads, and he's got that librarian- uh, Miss Tairee, he's got her, Rick! We gotta get her back! She, she, she could be in real trouble, huh?"

"Calm down, Morty, Grandpa has it *urp* covered. I mean, I know you got the *urp* h-hots for her, Morty," Rick calmly explained, tightening some kind of lugnut as he spoke, "but she's some kind of tenth-dimensional omniprojection here. Those guys are dicks, Morty. Don't date anyone from the *hic* tenth dimension."

"What? Rick, th-that's totally baseless! Y-y-you can't think that I-"

Rick said nothing. The sound of burning trees from outside the cottage continued, unabated. "I mean, what, anyway, this asshole is using her as his personal *urp* sec-g-gofer, and you think he's gonna let anything happen to her?" Rick clamped the armored crossbow-gauntlet he'd been wearing earlier onto his wrist and flexed it experimentally.

"Man, Rick, uh... I think I heard someone say that if we kill the dragon, you know, all the people..."

"Alright, alright, fine, Morty, you and your *urp* teenage hormones win. You don't gotta- you don't gotta do a little touchdown dance about it. I'll go try and kill this stupid dragon for you. I mean, sheesh, Morty, take a cold shower when we get our running water back, okay?"

Morty rolled his eyes and tried not to look completely embarrassed. "C'mon, Rick, t-t-that's not cool, and, you, uh, I think we need a sword of some variety, huh?"

"I got more than just a sword, Morty." Rick pulled the tarp off his creation - revealing something that resembled a bulky suit of knight's armor - scavenged together from clockwork toys, some of the house's furniture- a heavy-duty crossbow, and a lot of iron - and capped off with a massive armored barrel clamped to the back. The magic broomstick that Morty had scavenged earlier sat affixed to this heavy iron drum. One clawed hand ended in some kind of bayonet fist, while the other arm tapered into some kind of hose weapon, attached directly to the rear tank.

Morty stared at the contraption for a few seconds. "Jeez, Rick, you... managed to build-"

"Yyyep." Rick cracked open another bottle of alcohol as he spoke and poured himself a shot. "Pretty nice work, huh, Morty? St-steam power. No matter what some *urp* insane, bored, cosmic, asshole tries to do... i-i-it's the laws of physics. Water turns to gas under heat, Morty, that's your science lesson today, the fire's lit and ready to *urp* go, let's go kick the shit out of this dragon."

"Wow, Rick, just like that?"

"Yep, because fuck fairy tales, Morty." Rick took another shot and his eyes twitched. "That's what I've learned today. Fairy tales are shit, Morty. You... l-learn... soUUURGHmething new every day, and today I learned to hate fairy tales." Rick had already finished strapping himself into the machine, and wrapped both armoured hands around the control levers. There was a blast of noise, accompanied by a thick cloud of steam and soot, as the contraption lurched ahead, gears squeaking and metal protesting all the while. Rick squeezed a handle and cranked both levers forward, body-checking open a hole in the workshop wall and into the path of the dragon.

"Get away from her, you *urp* bitch!"

Burning Forest

Lune listened to Cole talk about the dragon's motivations. According to Cole, the dragon only had three things in mind: kidnapping Ms. Tairee, keeping her hostage, and flying. This dragon is really simple-minded, huh?

Lune also listened to Rex and nodded. She held onto Rex like her life depended on it and waited for further instructions.

"Ready to go!"

Cole seemed confused at the instruction, but did as Rex told him to. "Wh-why do you want me to do that? What are we doing?" He looked towards the dragon again. "Are we going to help?"

Beanstalk

If Ben did some experimenting, he would find that the vine hookshot could have three vines out at once, which would suspend him equally between them; once he launched a fourth the first one would go away, letting him move in his chosen direction as his position equalized out between the replaced vines. But if he tried to make them go away, they would all go away at once.

Flying dragon

Since Rick was not yet attacking it, the dragon didn't care and just flew over him. The head not holding Miss Tairee glanced his way curiously, but it didn't change course or do anything else.

Burning forest

"I think I have an idea of what we need to do. We're flying to the beanstalk"

And, with that, Rex set course to the giant beanstalk. Hopefully the giant of the tale would have been replaced by the angry bears from Goldilocks. That would be so much easier to deal with.

Finally getting the hang of climbing the beanstalk

Ben watched the vines carefully as he experimented with the hookshot while he climbed. They seemed to follow a pretty solid pattern. He just hoped that the pattern would keep up. Gradually he attempted to increase the amount of distance that he would cover with the hookshot. Soon he was moving upwards at a fairly brisk pace.

"This thing is pretty cool!" Ben exclaimed, glad that he wasn't falling, as he kept climbing the beanstalk. He hoped he would reach the top pretty soon though; he was still really high up and Ben did not want to fall from way up here.

Top of the beanstalk

As Ben reached the top by climbing up with the vineshot, Rex arrived carrying Lune and Cole, as well as Koishi floating in from another side.

The top of the beanstalk was an area that seemed to be made entirely of plants and the occasional rock; there was no conventional ground to speak of. Roots of the trees around along with the rocks did made a rough ground to walk around on, but it would be easy to trip one's footing on the roots if they weren't careful. It also might occur to them at some point that the plants up here were real; or at least, weren't obviously made of book materials.

The whole place was maybe fifty feet across, and roughly circular. And there in the center was a prominent rock sticking up out of the roots, with a sword stabbed into it. The sword didn't look too fancy; a steel sword without any fancy patterns to it, though very shiny as if brand new. What was of greater note was the stream of light coming down through the branches above the sword right onto it, giving a nearly perfect, picturesque presentation of the sword. If there was going to be a magic sword needed to kill the dragon today, that sure looked like it would be it.

Now all they had to do was get it, but it seemed it wouldn't be that simple. One of the trees... Moved? No, but the humanoid figure made of wood stepping out of the tree had moved; and it wasn't alone. Five spriggans in total stepped out of the trees, evenly spaced around the sword.

The spriggan closest to Rex and his two passengers charged at him, aiming to throw a swipe at them with a clawed arm; it could hit any of them the way they were clustered, though Rex was the first target, being in front.

A second spriggan, closest to Koishi, charged her with the same intent to melee swipe with a clawed arm.

The other three all started to glow brighter and stepped closer to the sword, each holding up one arm to send a swarm of small, flying bugs to harass and sting their chosen targets. One pointed at Ben, another at Koishi, and the third at Rex, Cole, and Lune.

Top of the beanstalk

As soon as he saw the spriggans, Ben looked simultaneously relieved and disappointed. He was really hoping to be able to go XLR8, grab the sword from a stupid giant, and get back to the dragon real quick. As it stood now, he'd have to go hero here for a fight.

Ben jumped behind a tree, readying his Omnitrix. The Omnitrix had left cooldown while he was climbing the beanstalk. "Two can play at this game!" He selected a craggy-looking yet very spindly alien, then grinned and pressed in the display. The area was bathed in green light as Ben's silhouette changed. He was clearly transforming into Wildvine, the silhouette was showing that. But he was looking more solid than he did before. Indeed, when the green light was released, he seemed to be made of wood, his venus-flytrap head replaced with a head that looked like a leafy bush or tree, his shoulders and arms covered in the same leavy substance. Ben just hoped that Wildvine's flexibility would be intact, but Wildvine's new woody body would hopefully protect him against the bee stings.

He lashed out his two arms towards two of the spriggans, trying to grab them and pick them up. His hope was that he could toss them off of the beanstalk platform to end the fight quickly, so they could get to the sword.

Cole hadn't much been prepared for flying, and he had cried out and clung to Rex as tightly as possible. "I don't like this!"

Once they had arrived to the top, he looked around, though didn't release his death grip just yet, staring down at the distance to the ground with wide eyes. But before he could comment, the trees around them began to...move. And they were attacking?

"Sylvans, here?" Cole didn't hesitate at that, the instant he could manage to get the misshapen ground under his feet, he let go of Rex, grabbing his daggers. "We need that weapon. I will get it!" Immediately, he was wisping into invisibility with his usual puffs of green mist, dropping low to try and avoid the attacks. With any luck he would be able to crawl across the ground unnoticed by the tree monsters and retrieve the sword.

Top of the beanstalk

"Oh, come on. Compared to fighting dragons, flying can't be that bad"

They reached the top of the plant which appropiately had a floor made of hundreds of roots.

Right in the center there was a sword embedded in the rock. A stream of light making the sword shine made it obvious that, whatever it did, it was the sword they were looking for.

"That couldn't be a more obvious trap if it had a sign with 'Free Cookies' written in it"

Sure enough, five creatures made of plants stepped out of the trees and gathered around the sword in the stone. One of them tried to attack Rex with its hand or whatever that was.

Rex created a sword of his own and aimed it at the incoming attack, hoping to stop it and, hopefully cut its arm.

Beanstalk

Having some actual common sense, Sadness quickly figured out Mary's plan. "Wait - you're going up there?! You can't!

Even as she protested, Sadness mechanically accepted the pouch; years of following others' instructions, particularly Joy's, she supposed. "I - I mean it, Mary. You could get hurt. Look -" Vaguely, she waved upwards. "The dragon's not even attacking us! Those others are distracting it. If you climb the beanstalk, won't you be closer to the sky?"

Top of the Beanstalk

Finally, they arrived at the top of the beanstalk! Lune looked around the unusual forest in clouds, and spotted a mystical sword embedded in a rock. The stream of light beaming through the branches even emphasized its majesty better. Could this be the sword Ms. Tairee was supposedly talking about when she was flung around like a ragdoll?

Rex noted that it could possibly be a trap, since the sword was almost in the group's grasp. As fate wanted to give Rex the middle finger, he was proven right when five plant-like creatures jumped out of the trees surrounding the group and ambushed them. Lune's armor got scratched by the claw of the plant creature attacking Rex. Seeing as these guys were cruising for a bruising, Lune leapt off Rex and onto a root.

Cole, on the other hand, disappeared in a cloud of green mist after retrieving his daggers. Was he planning on retrieving the sword while others distract the plant creatures for him? In any case, Lune would be willing to help him out.

Ben had changed into a plant creature himself. Fortunately, this plant creature looked different than the plant creatures attacking them. They didn't have leaves as hair and they didn't look as thin as Ben. Lune watched Ben wrap his vines around a pair of the plant creatures. Lune's hands began to glow purple as she sent a few energy blasts at the bees in an attempt at intercepting them. "Psycho Blaster!"

Beanstalk

"Huh. That's one *urp* one disinterested dragon, huh, Morty?" Rick scratched his chin as the dragon soared overhead with nary a second glance at Rick, or his steam-powered contraption. "I mean, you might even say that *hic* he's waiting for something."

Morty- who had been running behind the suit, doing the best to keep the sparks and soot out of his lungs- caught up a few seconds later, panting heavily and hacking some wayward exhaust out of his mouth. Feeling slightly calmer (and too exhausted from his run to try and waste energy by freaking out again), he watched the dragon "Well, whaddya know. T-that's, uh, true, I guess. I mean, uh, there's something about a sword, I think?"

Rick lumbered over to the base of the beanstalk - passing by Sadness and Mary and whoever else had opted to stick around as he stared up at the absurdly distorted plant. "Alright, Morty, we're gonna have to head *urp* up *urp* the beanstalk. Again."

"Aw jeez, Rick, not again. I-I-I-, I mean, last time we did that, you know, things went r-r-real off the rails." Morty stared up at the huge plant, spiralling away into the clouds and beyond, as he spoke. "Isn't, uh, there something else we could do? On the ground? Like, uh, like..." Morty bit his lip.

Rick laughed sardonically as he twisted a lever. "I mean, what, you think I was gonna *urp* climb this beanstalk like an idiot? 'S that what you thought, Morty? I mean, Morty, whatever we need to kill that dragon is, like, pr-probably right at the top of that beanstalk." Rick twisted one of the two control levers as he spoke, mumbling some calculations under his breath. The broomstick bolted to the back of his contraption began crackling with some kind of crudely-harnessed magical energy, accompanied by a sound not unlike a dangerously overfilled kettle reaching its boiling point.

"Uhhhhh... Rick... t-that's really not what I meant..."

"Alright, hang on, Morty, this whole thing is *urp* pretty jury-rigged. I-I'll admit I was kinda wasted when I was putting this bad boy together, so..." Rick grabbed Morty in one iron claw and braced himself against the ground. "...I'm not saying we're going to blow up, but..."

"... what? We're gonna blow up?"

"I said, don't think about it, Moooooortyyyyyy!" shouted Rick as his suit catapulted itself into the air, leaving a trail of steam behind it. Morty winced as the sheer pressure of acceleration pushed the skin back across his face; from what he could see Rick was calmly working the controls, blasting his way up towards the floor of roots and preparing to smash himself an entrance using the machine's built-in sword.

Grimlock; Human form -> Dragon form

Outside Library

Grimlock groaned. Apparently, whatever was happening made them too busy to hear him. So he paid closer attention to what they were doing. In short? The librarian was kidnapped by a two headed dragon, it won't attack unless someome punches it, and something that might help was at the top of the plant thing. He looked up and saw Ben, and a few others had reached the top. He needed to help too. But how was he going to get up, when his arm was still sore?

... What if he transformed? Would it make his leg sore instead?

He decided to give it a go. But he needed to warn those around him, 'cause there was already a dragon. They might think he was with the two headed one.

"I'm gonna transform," he said.

Then he did a backflip. Once again, his body looked like wet clay as it shifted before solidifying into his flightless dragon form. As soon as he put weight on his right back leg, he gritted. Yup, it was still sore, but not as much as he thought. He could definitely put some weight on it, but not much. Thankfully, that's not what he needed. His front legs were fine, and he could use those to climb.

He went to the other side of the plant, where Mary wasn't climbing on, and started climbing.

Koishi had good enough hearing to make out something along the lines of "I need a Swoooord" coming from the poor woman presumably given as living sacrifice to the dragon. Watching as a few foolhardy souls started to plink at it with their weapons to no effect, she made a note to look out for a spare weapon lying around. She honestly had no idea why that lady would need one, but it never hurts to grant a last request.

It was a note which didn't need much remembering, as she almost immediately spotted one conveniently placed sword right at her destination! It wouldn't take much time at all to bring it back. There were some other folk here too...and someone she thought she recognized. Had she met him before? And were those odd plant youkai there a second ago?

She was cognizant enough to realize that these youkai weren't the friendly kind. One took a swing at her, something which she easily dodged by gaining altitude. Caught between dodging, remembering and sword-fetching, she didn't even notice the second attack aimed at her until it had reached her. At that point, she certainly did notice it.

"OH GOD BEES," she shouted as the not-strictly-composed-of-Anthophilae swarm enveloped her. She immediately tried to outfly them, swatting at them ineffectually as she sailed in an arc. She flew up, right above the sword, and then well past it, landing on the opposite side of the arena. Standing at the edge of the beanstalk (which was turning out much less interesting than she imagined), once again she tried to enter her subconscious state, hoping that the insects would be intelligent enough to be dissuaded.

Battle atop the beanstalk

As the swarm attacked him ineffectually, Ben's reach out attack managed to grab one of the spriggans near the sword before it could respond, and threw it off the beanstalk to tumble towards the ground below. The second managed to react and parry Ben's arm away with a claw swipe before he could grab it. Seeing that the swarm was being ineffective, it stopped firing it at Ben and instead took on a defensive stance near the sword.

Meanwhile, Rex's sword managed to block the incoming claw swipe from the spriggan coming at him, but what damage the spriggan took to its claw in return wasn't significant, nor did it slow it down. It kept swiping at him again and again with both arms, forcing him back dangerously close to the platform edge.

Lune's attack against the incoming bugs faced a problem in the meantime; these weren't giant bugs like the bees the Queen Bee had shot at them, or the ones fired by her wasp gun. They were just normal sized bugs moving in an indistinct swarm, and while firing the beams through certainly got plenty, it did nothing to really stop them from coming, and soon enough Lune was being assaulted by bugs stinging at her head nearly everywhere they could reach. Thankfully though, the spriggan firing at her was the one tossed away by Ben, so the assault relented a few moments later.

Speaking of the bug attacks, Koishi would find that unfortunately the bugs were far too dumb to be affected by her subconscious state, and kept attacking regardless. The spriggan magically directing them however, was susceptible to the effect, and after a moment lost its attention on Koishi in favor of the other people on the beanstalk; thus after a couple more moments, the swarm stopped attacking her.

During all this, Cole was getting a great opportunity to get a read on the spriggans as he crawled forward. Like the dragon, they had memories of some medieval land, though not the same one as the dragon; unlike the dragon, they had hurts, from remembering times that men or elves had come to chop down their trees, or a forest fire had started. But like the dragon, they now seemed 'hollow' as Cole had described it; they cared not about their forest or trees, or even their own safety. All that mattered was making sure nobody got their hands on the sword, which he was getting ever closer to...

But the two spriggans still near the sword managed to take notice of his faint form, and one stepped in front of him to throw a swipe into his general area; they couldn't make out his exact stance and position, but could make it out enough to attack him. The second prepared to start firing a swarm of insects at him, but right about that moment the roots exploded upwards from underneath it. Rick's contraption came barreling up through the roots and caused the spriggan, already missing a leg from the sword coming up through it, to get flung up and away from the platform, eventually tumbling down towards the city below. Rick's machine hadn't come out of that completely unscathed, as sword or not he had just sent it barreling through a thicket of wood roots.

With two of its comrades down and outsiders worryingly close to the sword, the spriggan that had tried to slash at Koishi charged back towards the center and leapt onto the back of Rick's machine. There it immediately started slashing away at what machinery it could reach as well as the back of Rick's head.

Being able to climb fast with his size, this was the scene that Grimlock would find himself coming across once he reached the top of the beanstalk, clambering on near where Koishi was, who he wouldn't notice in her current state.

What had happened to these creatures being summoned into this world? The dim recollections of their own worlds were clear enough to him, but it was like...what was it like? A glass wall separating them from what they truly were, still visible, still them, but unable to be what they should be. What was so powerful that it could transform these trees and the dragon into mindless drones, carrying out their acts against he and the others?

Could it do that to them? Could they find themselves possessed in such a way, made malicious marionettes against their very nature?

Cole didn't get as much time to think about that as he liked. He hoped he could reach the sword without being seen, but the spriggans had other plans than that in mind, and he yelped as he had to draw back quickly to avoid a swipe from one of them. That was bad, that distraction was enough for him to whip back into sight, startled and falling onto his rear, holding his daggers up in preparation to defend himself.

Then something, another monster? No, it was that old man, the bewilderingly blank one, and what was that thing, some bizarre golem? Cole stared in wide-eyed horror for a moment, completely uncomprehending of even the idea of a machine, even one of more natural parts. A part of him wanted to just attack it himself, but the creature that had tried to attack him was sent flying, and another leapt onto Rick's machine.

Cole sheathed his daggers quickly, scrambling to get on his feet, intending on simply sprinting the remaining short distance for the sword while the chaos was going on around him.

Top of the Plant Thing

Grimlock got to the top in little time and was confronted by the sight of a...robot...thing? Either way, it was being attacked by a bunch of gree tree looking people and although he vaguely felt he saw the operator before, he recognized the one being held by the suit. It was Morty. That meant that the guy in the suit was the weird smelling scientist he was with. And they were being attacked.

He gave a roar and charged towards them. Then he stopped near them. He shouted, "Ka-shwang!" as he sung his tail at the plant man, intending to swack it off.

Wildvine's single brow furrowed when the second spriggan managed to parry his attack. His attention turned towards Rex. He looked like he was in trouble. Plague Knight had been following the dragon on foot for quite some time, pursuing it akin to a police car tailing a suspect. As he did, he ignored complaints of people he ran into, oftentimes shoving them out of way intentionally, including a large egg shaped person sitting on the side of the road overlooking a large drop. The egg person fell, screamed in terror, and hit the ground below with a resounding *CRACK*.......revealing an artillery cannon within the shell.

As Plague Knight pursued, he noticed something was fundamentally off about the dragon, at least compared to how they behaved in his world. Large dragons were naturally lumbering and lazy creatures who ignored those unless provoked, but this duel headed specimen took it to another level entirely. It started to become clear the reptile was actually flying in a set flight.....not migrational, but rather.....preset by a higher power......

The maker of this realm, perhaps?

Eventually he reached the library, noticing the giant beanstalk nearby. He ran up to the first person he saw near it, which was Sadness.

"Excuse me, adorably pudgy glowing blue person," PK asked the emotion. "Can you tell what's going on with this giant bean stalk - "

*WHAM*

That was when the spriggan that was thrown from the top of the beanstalk landed on the ground.

"Fascinating......" he said, observing the most likely dead creature. He took down some notes.

As Kouta looked at the Dragon, he got his swords ready.

"This is our stage now!" Kouta said. He ran in pursuit of the dragon. However, he was well aware that he was no match for the dragon. If only Micchy lent him that Suika Lockseed. However, by this point he was merely chasing the dragon, and not outright fighting it.

Top of the beanstalk

Rex had avoided the attack from the plant but it was a strong enemy and pushed him closer to the edge of the beanstalk with each swipe.

Luckily, Ben had turned into some kind of alien tree (leaving Rex to wonder if he had seen all of his aliens) and threw the creature off the beanstalk. He also told him to go after the one closest to the sword.

Rex couldn’t believe his eyes when Rick bursted through the floor carrying Morty and dealing with one of the plant men. Grimlock climbed to where the battle was taking place and attacked the creature that was destroying the scientist’s armor.

"I think Rick and Grimlock already took care of that"

Rex instead decided to repay Ben's help. He created his buzzsaw and cut the plant man that Ben grabbed in half.

Cancelling the Rick-ocalypse

"Son of a bitch!" shouted Rick as one of the plant men leapt onto the back of his suit, wooden claws scrabbling their way through layers of interlocking gears and clockwork gizmos. "Get him off, Morty!" he shouted at his grandson, his hands frantically dancing over the levers- twisting dials, turning a knob or two, even making some on-the-fly repairs with one hand while he tried to punch the interloper in the face with the other - as was to be expected, his blows missed their target.

"What?" Morty ducked as he clambered up to the bulky water tank, doing his best to avoid the thing's frenzied swiping. "Why me, huh?"

"Just shut up and do it, Morty!" Rick swung the suit around as he spoke, a thousand gears clanking as he did so. "H-he's clawing his way to the boiler! If he ruptures it we're all going to fucking *urp* die, Morty!" Morty did his best to try and tackle the plant-man, but it was clear that the scrawny fifteen-year-old was no match for the supernatural creature. Morty screamed as the thing attacked him, bracing himself for yet another death... only to see a gigantic, black-and-green dragon charge in, momentarily distracting the spriggan and taking the pressure off Rick's suit.

"Jeeeeeeeez!" The teenager blinked and automatically cowered, trying to figure out if this was the same dragon from before... but when it spoke in Grimlock's familiar voice, Morty flashed a smile and a brief thumbs up at the dragon.

"Good save!" Rick pushed a lever; the sword-hand clenched its fingers as if assessing the damage- for the most part, the arm seemed to have seized up, chunks of armor plating torn and loose. "Good- yeah, good job."

"Heh, yeah," agreed Morty, hanging on for dear life, "Th-thanks, huh? Really saved my bacon."

"Talk to him later, Morty," shouted Rick over the commotion of grinding gears, hissing steam, and the general din of battle. "Time to *urp* prune!" Rick's suit lumbered back around as Grimlock tackled the spriggan- his suit leaking steam from a few dings in the armor. Rick clenched a squeeze-lever, firing a crossbow from the shoulder at the nearest spriggan.

Good, Koishi wondered if those bugs would ever leave!

The sudden rush of adrenaline from this scenario helped to ease the pain of the swarm's stings and bites. It still hurt like hell, but not enough to distract her from the potentially life-or-death situation occuring. She could already notice a few bumps swelling in the edge of her vision, and that told her she wasn't going to get much sleep at all for a while. Such a loss.

These youkai were not going to let up soon, as they were viciously attacking the rest of the people (including...an inexplicably wooden robot. She would have to ask about that sooner than later). She wasn't going to stand long against her enemies bare handed, and these people shouldn't just have to watch her do nothing to help them. While the rest of the plant beings were thoroughly distracted by the rest of these strangers, she ran up to the podium and attempted to wield the sword, pulling up on it with as much muscle as she could muster!
