"Hey!" Sadness protested, sticking her head out of the water so she could properly give a hurt glare in Rex's direction. "Don't—don't say that to Mary! Just because they're not sisters, you know, from birth—" she ducked back underwater to breathe and popped back up a second later— "—mean you have to be so mean about it! If you would please be nicer, I mean," she amended, not wanting to antagonize Rex after remembering how he had helped them all a few days ago.

"Besides, I don't see..." Sadness trailed off with a visible flinch as Kelsey only exacerbated her hurt legs. "...how she's a bad person. Because of a demon?...I don't know, but...she just looks hurt to me."

Twilight walked over and attempted to gently lift Kelsey off the ground.

"Indeed, I see now reason to mistreat her now" Lieutenant Wells said in agreement with Ben and Sadness. "Whatever criminal actions she may have taken while in Ruckus, it is likely that they were not of her free will. Though we should keep her apprehended, just in case" the soldier continued, then looked to Miss Tairee and added, "miss librarian, could you heal her injuries?"

Miss Tairee, having just made her eyes go back to how they were before with another blur, sighed lightly. "Yes, I could. You'll have to give me a bit though; it's not easy to type like this" Miss Tairee told him, tapping away at the keys one at a time with her claws.

Meanwhile, Kelsey struggled a bit as Twilight picked her up, but made no attempt to bite or claw at her. "I don't... Why aren't you..." Kelsey muttered, still breathing deeply.

Plague Knight's Pub

Nick Valentine turned around to face Plague Knight, and focused in on him with all three eyes.

"This your place?" he asked sternly. "Before we help you, could you explain why you have two kids locked up in here alone?"

Cole had observed the others quietly, his initial excitement dying down a little, before he finally seemed to take a deep breath, hopping over a little closer to Kelsey, clearly hesitant before speaking.

"It...it wasn't you, not really. Demons warp people, they get into their minds and they...change things. Make you think you want things you wouldn't ever do on your own. He took your desire to be...to be a part of something, to be bigger than yourself, and he twisted it against you. ...it wasn't you that did those things...it was what he made of you. ...you should try to rest. Do we..." Cole looked to Miss Tairee. "Can you heal her? She shouldn't be in pain."

Kelsey was awake now and she tried to run but couldn't even walk given her broken legs that Tairee pointed out matter-of-factly.

"Sorry about that. I just wanted to hit the demon but she got in the way"

Sadness spoke up from her tank² and told Rex that even if Kelsey and Mary weren't biologically related, they could still be sisters. Rex just thought what kind of sisterhood that would be: One where they both were psychopaths serving a demon or just one psychopath claiming that other people were her friends even though she barely knew how to deal with people.

"The problem here is not Kelsey. It's Mary. She's the one that killed Cole"

Ben felt a bit guilty by letting Kelsey suffer from broken bones and Wells agreed. Tairee tolde that she could cure her but it would take her a while to type the request to actually do so. Rex didn't waste time checking if her head was okay, he was used to the confused state that people were in after suddenly regaining their senses.

"You are going to be ok, just relax. Can you remember anything?"

"Children?" Plague Knight asked Valentine. Then he noticed the two children in odd costumes.

"OH! The hornet and the plant creature!" the alchemist said. "It would make sense that they would be transformed into humans today. Same thing happened to Twilight as well."

"Of course she's my big sis!" Mary replied to Rex, sounding offended but not really looking offended other than her somewhat crossed arms. "She made me food and helped me with things and I adopted her! Besides, what does all that have to do with Cole, you... you... uhm... you hardface!?"

With that clearly devastating insult out of the way, Mary focused the remainder of her attention on the injured honey badger, quickly making her way towards it with short and clumsy steps.

"Hey, big sis?" the blue doll asked, sounding quite concerned. "Are you okay? Does it hurt much? Do you need anything? I have some cake in my stomach, so I can get it right back out if you want!"

That same device that Miss Tairee had used to heal Cole appeared on one of her two upper limbs, and after shooting the green beam at Kelsey for a bit, Kelsey suddenly seemed fine. At least, in terms of her physical injuries. As her breathing steadied, she glanced around at the people surrounding her, it finally settling in that they weren't about to kill her or torture her or anything. "I... I remember everything!" Kelsey said, looking at Rex, and then at Cole. "It wasn't the demon! I chose to do it, all of it! For the glory of combat and my god's favor!" she yelled, struggling against Twilight's grip again but still not attempting to actually hurt the equine turned human, "I'll kill you all! Blood for the blood god!"

"She's lying" Miss Tairee stated simply, making the device disappear in another blur after a few key strokes. "About killing us that is. Everything else she said was true" she added, continuing her work on her computer.

"No! I'll kill you stupid fools!" Kelsey insisted, even as she was starting to break into tears. "Why are you trying to help me after everything I did?! After all those people I killed!?" she asked them, closing her eyes and shaking her head as she sobbed.

Ben frowned, shaking his head solemnly at the honey badger who was now breaking down into tears. "Because that's what good guys do," Ben simply stated, eyeing her up and down to make sure that she was okay. "We help people in need. Even those who did bad things. You're suffering. We can't just sit here and let you keep suffering."

Cole looked from Kelsey to Mary as the little girl spoke, and he couldn't help a quick few steps backwards away from the pair of them, eyes widening a little. He looked back at Kelsey, hesitant, clearly wanting to say something more, before lowering his head.

"You don't have to scare them away. They won't hurt you. You didn't mean for it to get this bad. You just wanted to mean something."

That being said, the rabbit turned and started once more for the doorway. "I have things to do...it's better I'm not here right now."

While the others started giving various forms of encouragement to Kelsey, Twilight carried her back to Miss Tairee's desk.

"Don't try to run off like that while your in this condition. You might make it worse. Let Miss Tairee take care of you."

Kelsey started screaming that she served the demon willingly and that she would kill everyone in the library. Tairee noted that the last bit wasn't true. Of course, even if she tried, she would have trouble trying to take down the heavily armed, magic wielding, and just plain poweful people in the building all by herself.

"Now I feel a lot less guilty about electrocuting you"

Mary's comeback was... lame. It sure was the kind of thing someone without experience living in the real world would make. She tried to rationalize their relationship, her sister had made her food, and helped her with some stuff. She even brushed off Cole's murder, the same way someone would ignore not having done their homework.

"You still don't get it, do you? You can't force people to be your friends or your family"

Kelsey wondered why they had helped her since she had killed a lot of people. Ben explained that it was what a proper hero would do but Rex had tried to cure her simply because he thought she was killing under OFB's influence. This new revelation proved that maybe the Ruckus were even more dangerous than he thought. Who else would continue to trust the demon long after he had stopped controlling their minds?

"I don't care what you think you did on your own, you were possessed. But if you choose to go back and serve the demon, I promise you, you will go down with him"

Cole stated that he had something to do and that he should probably get going. After pulling that stunt that had made him and Dante fight against the demon, Rex felt leaving him to his own devices was possibly the most stupid thing he could do right now.

He rolled a bit to intercept the bunny and asked sternly

"Where are you going, Cole?"

Library

Grimlock and Negi had already responded to Karkat's question, so Caro decided to focus on her newest ally's response to her question instead for now.

She smiled excitedly at Negi's demonstration and explanation, repying, " That's impressive and could definitely definitely work for what I have in mind. Though I have to ask, can you only make copies of yourself with this or would it be possible to extend it to others? My plan would work better if it was latter, but even without that, if the other part works out, we should be fine. You see, back in my world, I have a friend who has a specialty in illusion spells and she can make copies of herself and others, while one of mine is boost spells. Once while we were on a mission, we combined our spells in order to produce a much greater ammount of copies. So, I don't know if my magic is compatible with yours or not, but I would like to try the same with your spell." Her horn and Device both started to glow again, with a pink aura surrounding the one she though was the original Negi, as she cast the energy boost she had mentioned.

Cole paused, looking up at Rex after a moment. "You don't have to be responsible for me. The demon already told me it doesn't care about me today. I can go look for Sans and not have to worry. I just want to make sure he is all right...after everything that's happened. You should stay and get ready for whatever today's challenge will bring. I...don't know how well I can help fight right now."

Juri, Library

"Yeah, can't say I disagree with that!" Juri said in response to Ben's comment about beating up the guy who brought them here. After this, Miss Tairee asked why the two outside were fighting.

"Oh yeah, Death Knight over there has a grudge against someone named Dante, apparently," Juri explained as she climbed up a bookcase and sat on the top of it as if she owned the place. After this Juri remained quiet for a while until Kelsey was brought in, which brought up a whole host of encouragement that made Juri roll her eyes at how corny it all was. Especially since the majority here were talking animals.

Sans looked as the girl began sobbing like he was expecting, he obviously couldn't keep her floating around forever so that was one problem he had no solution for. Fortunately the owner of the place showed up just in time, although the day's transformation didn't let him get in, but that was easily fixable. Soon enough Plague Knight would find himself having been teleported inside the room, while Sans was now at the door.

"well, looks like the owner is here so i'm gonna leave this for you guys to take care of while i go look for some food i can eat, see ya,"

And with that the skeleton cat began walking out of the pub.

Viola(as a black cat), Library, Another Demon's Lackey...?

"Well, aren't you considerate," were Rex to look, he would find me shaking my head disapprovingly. "If that's your attempt at consoling someone, good job. I'm sure she feels better already." I spoke, seeing the librarian curing the demon's lackey and noticing everyone trying to make her feel better... barring Rex.

I can see that he's not as naive as most people here. Too bad that he looks like the type that simply says what he want to say, only to estrange himself away from the others; especially with this group. What a shame. "You're really not good with people, are you?"

Miss Tairee paused her typing as Twilight brought Kelsey back over to her desk, then glanced over as Rex spoke to her. The librarian sighed lightly again as Kelsey kept sobbing. "You people want me to take care of her? Alright, fine. Then first thing's first, shoo!" Miss Tairee said, placing one of her front claws over the honey badger defensively and waving one of her upper limbs at those around the desks. "This woman is clearly overwhelmed with emotions right now, so she needs some time to collect herself without everyone swamping her" the librarian told them, then went back to her typing after making sure Kelsey would be in her peripheral vision.

"Hold up," Sadness spoke up timidly. "Did she—just mention something about killing? Because, um, miss badger, Kelsey...that's not good language to use around your little sister if you want to be a good influence..."

She apparently gave up, not wanting to push the badger lady when she was in such a state, and sighed. "Mary, do you wanna go out and give them some space like she said...?" She also wished she could help Kelsey, in her own odd and somewhat emotionally draining way, but there just wasn't much she could do as a fish.

Vergil remained silent as his brother issued his challenge, ignoring the bystander that Dante had stopped to chat with. Quickly, he began his rapid teleportation approach.

Or, at least, that's what he was expecting, but he suddenly was unable to continue after the first attempt, and he also noted a slight drain on his body from the effort that did not usually happen.

"What?" He said in confusion, thrown off by this failure to do what came naturally to him as Dante now had a perfect opening to strike.

Dante raised a phantasmal eyebrow at the leopard across from him. "Uh, yeah, why? There any reason why I shouldn't be able to see ya, kid? What, are you a ghost? 'Cause I see plenty o' those, all the time. Ain't nothin' unusu—oh, hold up for a sec, wouldja kid? I'm gonna take care of this."

Right about then, Vergil had just attempted to teleport at Dante, and it had worked...once. Time slowed momentarily for the young demon hunter, and he sighed mentally. Figured, he thought. Something's drainin' our powers in here. Which is prob'ly why I felt drained after firin' at the demon earlier. That's...not good.

Dante shot forward, stabbing out with his sword arm in an attempt to shove the blade into the space right between Vergil's helmet and his chestplate. "One flick o' my sword and I bet you're toast, Vergil. Can't do much without a head, yeah? C'mon, man. Give it up. This ain't the time for you to go on your stupid" — to punctuate this, Dante poked Vergil's "neck" a little bit with his sword — "power trip, a'right? You wanna go searchin' for power? Do it when there ain't a whole bunch of little frickin' kids around!

There was a pause, then Dante's voice dropped to a low growl. "And if you can't get that through your thick skull, bro, then I guess I'll just have to let my sword do the talkin' instead, unless you can get your head outta your ass, and help us instead. 'Sides, what's the point of tryin' to kill me here, anyway? Ain't no satisfaction in killin' someone who's just gonna come back. Why not wait 'till we get back to our world, so you can kill me there, huh? When we're not surrounded by a buncha kids just tryin' to survive?"

And then, the young demon hunter just stood there, his sword primed and ready to make its way through the base of Vergil's "jaw." "Your choice, bro. Your choice."

All of this is assuming, of course, that Vergil didn't have the reaction time to deflect Dante's arm in the first place.

Karkat - Library

Karkat looked at the new guy currently towering over him, ignored him, and turned to Negi instead. OH, OKAY. SO YOU'RE TRYING TO BEAT UP SOME GUYS SO YOU CAN TURN THIS "MARY" GIRL HUMAN? He paused. ...DO YOU HAVE A LEADER?

"I didn't force her to do it," Mary answered to Rex, evidently offended, before turning towards Miss Tairee. "Right, I'll come back when she feels better, 'kay?"

She did not even wait for a reply. Instead she turned towards Sadness, and with a quick hop... she climbed straight into the fish tank's cannon. And so she disappeared for a few seconds, until the tiny blue doll head popped back out of the gun as if nothing had happened.

"Alright, on... uhm... onw... onwe... wa... wawe... uhhh... let's go!" she exclaimed, unable to remember exactly how to say the word "onward". "Hey, there's something pointy in this tube!"

Vergil's expression was impossible to read behind his helmet as he heard his brother's lecture, unmoved by his anger about kids being around.

"I don't seem to recall anyone caring about us being kids all that time ago." Vergil said quietly, so that only Dante would hear. "Whatever you think of me and my quest, you cannot protect them from the world forever. Is it not better they learn the truth of life here, in this place where death is impossible?"

He paused, mulling over the rest of his brother's words. Then he spoke, now louder. "But, I will grant that you have a rare point, brother. Conflict between us, when we are not at full power and when a true resolution is impossible, is pointless. I am willing to set aside our conflict until we leave this place."

That said, should I find a way to acquire more power while I am here, do not expect me to hold back. Vergil thought to himself.

"Now. Kindly remove the sword?" He would wait until Dante removed it, then take a step back. "Good. While you were busy running around, I was gathering information. According to what I have seen and heard, a powerful champion of some sort is set to arrive in this city soon. We are expected to defeat it, apparently."
