I have the game and for the most part like it. While the turn based system slows down game play I like the time it gives to plan out what your doing. I have played a little TT Battletech at cons and similar games as well as a number of the video game titles. I agree on the tonnage limits, it just feels too limiting and balance would be made up with larger or more diverse enemy forces in response. The next best turn based mech battle game I have played to date is Titans of Steel: Warring Suns.

^ Damn, that's awesome!

Tried that 3rd story mission again...after the enemy comm that tell them too shoot my mech instead of turrets the Trebuchet at the back went full retard and not trying to shoot any turret and just walk around that pad and Entrench itself...only shoot my mech when one got in its range. Huh. Help turret survivability a lot though. 2 mechs also lost an arm...that sucks. Also got myself a Dragon after incap the pilot without blowing a part up! Thanks turrets!

Question: Is it possible to configure a Catapult into its House Kurita configuration (K2 model, LRM batteries replaced with PPCs)?

[up] Yes. In fact, the K2 is the variant I first encountered!

Nice. In Mechwarrior IV Mercenaries Mektek, the K-series Catapult (called Katapult in the mod to separate it from the missile-armed mainline Catapult) was one of my favorite 'Mechs and probably my overall favorite heavy 'Mech (the Awesome is probably my favorite assault 'Mech, the Adder/Puma was my favorite light 'Mech (though without Clan tech, I think my favorite is the Jenner and its relative, the Owens), and unfortunately, almost every medium 'Mech I have any real fondness for postdates the timeframe of this game)

Certain missions are legit meatgrinders. Just did the recovery mission where Kamea joins us with her new and shiny Atlas II, and she got dogpiled by the enemy armor.

Schrek PPC Carriers are a pain, as are the HEAVY LRM Turrets and the SRM carrier.

[up][up]Oh I loved Mektek. One of the things I tried once was to pick an Urban map for skirmish, then built an Annihilator from the ground up using only...Machine Guns plus ammo. Max range topped out around 180m, but it could continuously fire until it ran dry and could strip armor and trash an assault mech in about 6 seconds flat. Think of it like an Urbie, scaled up to 100 tons and even more helpless when the hoppers were empty.

Late game missions REALLY make the Arbitrary Headcount Limit annoying. Late game assassination missions are night impossible, when you're facing almost double the tonnage you have, and the target Mech is one sprint from his evac zone and evacs the moment you strip armor.

[up][up]My favorite case of messing with an Annihilator was turning off ammo and mounting nothing but Thumpers.

And as much as I love the Mektek 'Mechs, my favorite 'Mech in the game was the Puma from the base game. Nothing quite like that combination of speed and dual PPCs. But none of that in Battletech, seeing as the Clans won't invade for 25 years.

If I still had a Windows install and Mektek installer, I'd kind of like to do an Inner Sphere only run. No Clan 'Mechs, no Clan weapons, and probably not even Mixed Tech' Mechs and weapons.

[up]I have not been able to get MW 3 or 4 working on my current laptop-and I do not have any emulators available. Really rather sad, especially with the occasional hankering for mech combat. Ah well, at least I got Missionforce: Cyberstorm working on this computer-I just wish there was a non-glitchy fix for the facing/dry fire bug.

As for favorite mechs...Daishi, Mauler and Marauder, all day long. Will settle for anything that can mount lots of PP Cs and Gauss.

Balmung Since: Oct, 2011

Eh, Daishi's too much of a lardass for me. Give me an Awesome and pile on the PPCs. There is a very strong link between a 'Mech's capacity for PPCs (or Gauss Rifles) and my opinion of it (and as such, it is probably little surprise that the Nova Cat is one of my favorite Clan 'Mechs). And now I kind of want a Hollander variant that trades its ammo-dependant Gauss Rifle for a Heavy PPC. I always get ammo anxiety when I'm not using energy weapons.

[up]Same. However, I always loaded up pulse lasers in 3, though, since the trip/leg damage and targeting/knock down mechanics were borked. I usually picked Daishi in 4M since I like the reverse joint profile slighter more than the skull face, but I was always a little miffed at getting capped at 7 Daishi maximum-Always had the 1 Atlas in slot 8 going into the second to last mission.

You know you don't have to use every last ton allocated, right?

[up]Of course-but where is the fun in that?tongue

I was more making a point of the odd salvage/shop allocations-as many Atlases as you can afford to blow up, and ready access to most clannerscum omnis. Am I correct in my estimation, or was there more than 7 Daishi available? I also always played through beating on Steiner forces, so I never found out what gets made available if you ally with them instead.

Finished a mission, got to the loot page, select loot, accept loot...game crashed. Reload...HAVE TO START MISSION AGAIN??? Thanks game!

BTW, what's good Dragon setup? I'm using 2 ML, 2 SRM-6, 2 SL, 4 JJ right now...not sure if it's best or not though.

[up][up]I imagine that if you aligned with Steiner, you'd get EVEN MORE Atlases. If you want to get Clan tech, you should sign with the Wolf's Dragoons (Kell Hounds are next for Clan stuff). If you really like X-Pulse Lasers, the Grey Death Legion is where it's at.

[up]I always went Dragoons/Hounds then Davion, since I like my omnis and those sets of missions-after the midway point, I think I only tried Steiner missions twice and found them bleh. Steiner 'Atlas recon lances' are amusing in the fluff, but in game Steiner giving you missions that shooting up a diplomatic conference/assassination rubbed me the wrong way.

Well, this went poorly. But it could have gone very poorly. And it didn't! Plus I managed to salvage an entire Dragon by killing its pilot, so I'm calling this one a win.

It was only a two skull mission, too. I mostly took it to kill time while my first heavy (a Jagermech I salvaged in one go with a lucky headshot) got fit up... but between repairs and medbay time, I don't think it was an efficient use of my time. Wouldn't have been so bad if not for the bug where enemy reinforcements spawn at mission start instead of when I killed the initial enemy force.

I'm starting to think that trying to use time productively may not be the best route, and just sitting around until repairs and refits are complete might be a better plan. (Pilots aren't generally an issue; I've got spares, so I can field a full lance even with one or two in the medbay.) Gonna need to prioritize both tech points and at least the second stack of mech bays if I want to do the same thing with spare mechs.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

Got myself a copy.

Not terribly familiar with the universe but a friend of mine helped me "acquire" the beta before release and I really enjoyed the gameplay so I figured I'd go for it.

Just finished off the prologue missions.

Kinda sorta got two people killed in the first go with the mining contract. Not my proudest moment to be honest.

Oh really when?

Now on the hunt for more Assault mechs. Collecting a nice stable of Wolverines, Shadow Hawks, and Centurions. Those mediums are really solid and reliable when properly customized.

Got a question. Is there like, a height chart for Battlemechs? I just wanted to find out how big Metal Gear Rex is compared to the stuff from Battletech/Mechwarrior. You would not believe how hard it is to figure this out. Rex is listed as 13m tall, but I can't actually find a source that states how tall a particular Battlemech is. Fine. Battlemechs are typically classified by weight, from the small 20 tonners to the massive 100 tonners. What's Metal Gears Rex's weight you ask? Well the only source i can find is 557 tons, which is ridiculous. So I have no godly idea how much Rex is would actually, weigh, nor do I know how tall a Battlemech is.
