Night

"You worry too much, Rags. We'll be fine. I haven't got hurt doing this yet. I'll see you soon. Tell Marvin to stop gritting his teeth, I can hear it from here. Later." Scarlet shut down the call and focused on the road.

Doughnuts

Scarlet washed down a bite of powdered doughnut with a drink of coffee. "We should of just left him at the station. Why did we go away from the police station to meet a cop on duty?"

"Well regardless, the cop is here now." Called out a man with dark hair in casual clothes and a leather jacket that looked an awful lot like Scarlet's with a gun belt at his waist. He looked over the assembled group before focusing on Scarlet. "Spitfire, I don't know half your friends but I am throughly surprised Merrick Gage hasn't irritated you enough for you to kick his ass yet. Good to see you're working on your patience. Anyway, you have someone for me?"

Scarlet blushed and looked off to the side as she pointed to the prisoner. "This guy, he was probably involved with the CCT attackers."

Donuts

Halle squatted in front of Gage's display, eyeing it carefully as she tapped a donut into the side of her head. At first she was just doing it as a little one-and-done joke, but when nobody laughed she turned it into an almost spiteful insistence. "Cops." She stated, pointing at the officers in question on the display. "And reporters." Another point. "No spooks, no swat, no spec ops, but yes reporters. What do you make of it after practically having to look to make sure we don't step over some ominous fascist in a black mask all night? I'm thinking it's almost too open. Like, 'yeah, motherfuckers, look all you want, you won't find anything,' or something. Ehh-uhh." She made a noncommital noise.

"Guess we'll find out from this guy... another point about that, actually..." Halle turned and stood in one strangely inhuman corkscrewing motion to face their quarry. "speaking of being easy... I'm thinking of how lax security is around where we fought, and that extends to this guy here. He went down like a chump. He had an SMG and sniper support and nothing else. No melee weapons in such close quarters, and just kevlar—like he wasn't expecting to ever get ganked up close. Again, almost too easy. Like they wanted us to catch him."

Past Midnight

"Or he wasn't expecting to be caught, because no one expects a country hick conspiracy theorist robot swinging down on them in the black of the night." Varyag grunted, stretching a little and holding a donut in his hands. "Should have watched the news when you made that stupid announcement."

The small officer looked over at who appeared to be another policeman in civvies. Considering the situation he had to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume he was indeed one. "Corporal Geat." He saluted the other officer. "Been dispatched to escort this bunch to the police station, but they insisted on meeting you here with the sus." Varyag gestured towards the unconscious man.

Way Past Midnight - Cityline View, Downtown Residential District, Vale

"Hey, Officer Dan," Gage grinned from his perch, a doughnut in his mouth. "When she learns the difference between kicking and flailing, that's when I'll be shaking. We're also here 'cause we wanted it neutral." There was a cup of coffee and a cruller, all for him.

"Scarlet trusts you, Halle doesn't. We want the two of you to hash something out."

Doughnuts

Danny took out a small notepad and began writing. "Mr. Gage, while I may have misgivings about my niece's attitude, hobbies and general disposition..."

"Hey!"

"...I have no doubts she could kick your ass up and down the street." He finished as if no one had spoken before turning to the other officer. "As for you Corporal, I do apologize for the distress my niece and her friends have caused you. I can tell you're terrified by your choice in pastry." He commented drily.

"Nonetheless as you are one of Temis and Astra's minions I'm not surprised they didn't just fork over their find to you. No doubt your division's standard, unprofessional tactics of trying to strong-arm those involved, even when those involved have standard privileges of Hunters-in-training did nothing to ease their minds, which is why I had to come all the way out here to pick up a perp."

He put away the notepad and picked up the food that was ready for him. "In short, as Lieutenant Detective, you're dismissed and I'll be taking things from here. Temis can talk to him after my officers have had their turn, if she submits the proper paperwork for once in her life."

Midnight Discussion

"I could file in for kidnapping, but that wouldn't help anyone." Varyag commented dryly.

Seeing as his authority was being stepped on he resorted to pulling out the audio recorder. "Well, my job here is done. Here's a bit of evidence, the recording from my little scouting duty." He put the recorder in his peer's hand and saluted. The recording in question was, put simply, a listening of the team's conversations from their first meeting with Shades and OE all the way to the discussion about putting down the suspect.

"I would also like to say that I resent the suspicion we work under none other than Lady Maria. Staff Officer Temis has no hand in the operation." With that done, he saluted once more, this time to the motley crew of Huntsmen slash vigilantes. "Seriously though. Refrain from making Lt. Astral mad. She's not fun when she's mad." With that said and done, Varyag Geat melted back into the shadows and into the night.

Cerise sat on the picnic table opposite Gage. In an ideal world she would still be holding a fat stack of lien notes in her hand, but with a posse of losers to cater for, that had been reduced to a few measly paper notes. Cerise stuffed the last few notes down her top.

"Also the queen's a reptilian," she said, biting into a frosted donut. "And, uh, the airships spray chemtrails to brainwash the masses."

Cerise sipped from her paper cup of coffee.

"You know what I think? I think Ro sold us out. How else d'you explain the response time on the ambush?"

Danny pocketed the recorder. "Astra can get angry all she wants. She doesn't outrank me, so she can put in a request and see how far it gets her." He called after the other officer before walking over to the prisoner. "I really hope you kids didn't say anything dumb enough to cause problems for yourselves on that tape." He commented as he began pulling the man off the bike. "Now this guy, if he's involved in the Tower attacks, this will be the best present I've gotten all year. Whole department is looking for a lead on that, thanks for the find."

Way Past Midnight - Cityline View, Downtown Residential District, Vale

Gage made no comment about Officer Dan's thoughts. Far too many people were very quick to write him off.

However, he did lightly punch Cerise on the arm concerning her crack about the Queen. Then hopped off his seat to bundle the mercenary into Officer Dan's car.

He went back to the box of doughnuts and fished around for something cream-filled. "You know how the Hands stand. But we'll ask Ro when we see him again." There was a nasty note on the word 'ask'.

A yawn now made its way out from his mouth. He took a bite of pastry and chased it down with hot chocolate. Gage looked out into the light-dotted horizon that was Vale.

"What a freakin' town."

Danny drove away with the perp in his car.

Scarlet nodded in response to Gage's comment. "It's a bit of a handful. But honestly despite all the trouble it causes me, I admit I don't know what I'd do without it." She took a drink from her coffee.

"Crazy town. Still a lot of clues left to dig up. But that'll have to wait. I've been preparing for tonight since 8AM. I need some freaking sleep."

Way Past Midnight - Cityline View, Downtown Residential District, Vale

"I wish they'd just leave it alone," Gage's eyes never left the city of his birth as he took a sharp chomp of his doughnut. "People are finally getting their lives on track after the last incursion. Grimm are bad enough, they don't need cult psychos with mil-spec mechs messing with how things are."

"Yeah." Scarlet replied before letting out a long sigh.

"You know, Street Rat...I still didn't need you or anyone else to come along to help me. But...I suppose you did have the best of intentions, So I can at least appreciate the thought if nothing else." She took a swig of her coffee, her expression as if saying that had caused her pain.

Way Past Midnight - Cityline View, Downtown Residential District, Vale

Gage normally had something ready to fire away, something glib to say.

He didn't, eyes still tracing his cityline, seeing without seeing as he followed the lines of its streets. Rather, he just brought up his powdered half-moon of doughnut, oozing a chocolate cream smile, in some strange childish kind of toast.

Scarlet glanced over at Gage and rolled her eyes. "You're not getting anymore than that. And wipe that grin off your face, you look stupid." She said, but her tone for once was teasing.

"Let's hurry this up. Rags apparently knows all of us are gone. And I don't want to explain to Goodwitch what we were doing out here tonight, longer we stay here, the more likely I'm gonna have to."

Morning

"Heh, yeh, plenty of students. Kinda surprising, too."

He continue his walk, folding his arms to try to look cool and nodding to Sky's words.

"I feel kinda claustrophobic too but when I'm stuck in a room, I just break the wall down, heh. It's pretty easy when..."

Blinking.

"I don't plan on breaking down the walls here though. I'm a warrior with an handsome streak, not a barbarian." he says, making an exaggerated smug face for a moment.

As Scarlet and Gage continued to talk, they would hear a bit of snoring. Selene had fallen asleep, a bit of sprinkles from her donut still on her lips as fell a bit towards Scarlet, finally ending in a rested position with her head on Scarlet's shoulder.

Scarlet let out a small sigh. "Okay, yeah, I think that's officially my cue to leave." She commented, gently running her fingers through Selene's hair. The biker began trying to shake the catgirl awake. "Selene, wake up, Selene. I'll take you home so we can get some sleep but I need you awake to hold on to me."

At the words "hold on to me" Selene sleepily wrapped her arms around Scarlet with a tightness one might not necessarily expect from a person that was sleeping, like she was latching to a pillow. "Mmmm... Soft... Warm..."

Scarlet let out a long suffering sigh. "Okay, hold on here..." The biker situated them both properly on the bike and then her chain came alive, wrapping around both her and Selene until the catgirl's arms were firmly chained to Scarlet's chest.

Scarlet looked about menacingly. "If any of you breathe a word of this to Marvin...well, let's just say I know where you live."

Then she turned away and began driving the two of them back to Beacon.

"Do you think I even have curfew if the assumed premise of curfew, that I ought to be sleeping, doesn't apply to me?" Halle asked. "I do occasionally shut down because constant consciousness is nightmarish and mentally exhausting, but when it's a constant dripfeed of juicy info like what we're about to get with this fucker here," she gestured to their hostage, "I think I'm cool."

Way Past Midnight - Cityline View, Downtown Residential District, Vale

Gage finished his donut and headed towards his own bike. "Right, no sense hanging about. Cerise, grab the box." He stretched his arms and rolled his shoulders.

The sky was beginning to lighten. It was Sunday. A new day.

Dorms-Sunday morning

Scarlet pushed open to door of the darkened dorm room open, readjusting Selene so the catgirl wouldn't slip. "Oh boy, that was a night." She commented to herself as they moved across the room. The redhead gently lifted and laid Selene down on her bed before walking over to her own bed and flopping down onto the mattress.

Dorm Room Night

As soon as the two got into their beds, the lights switched on to reveal a rather agitated looking snake faunus. "I trust you two had fun tearing up the town?" He asked as he gestured to his scroll. "What the hell, Red?"

Dorms

Scarlet covered her eyes with her forearm. "Oh yeah, it was a blast. I left in the middle of the night so other people wouldn't come with me. A plan that worked out so poorly I ended up with a whole posse of followers. Which included Halle, which was nothing but pure joy."

The redhead sat up. "But, no one was hurt and we found some leads. So I'm calling it a success."

Dorms

Selene shifted a bit in her bed, mumbling something about waffles, before wrapping the sheets tightly around herself. Even asleep, it was obvious she was very glad to be in her bed. Her ears twitched every now and then from her dreams.
