Paradoxial Stratgem's Juun'Reyan Recruitment

Zytex was browsing through his files when he came upon yet another interesting person to try and recruit. This Quarian's technical and ship skills are good. We're going to have to do something about his attitude if he's going to be an effective member of the task force, but we get past that and it looks like we have a solid addition to the team., Zytex thought to himself. Zytex put in the Quarian's contact info and waited for Juun to respond.

(as far'fetched as it is for a high ranking general of a black task force to have information on random blokes in the galaxy and recruit them into said task force (granted, these may be better than average people and they need the specialists), I'd say it's not as bad as having random people just joining a task force like this because reasons. Maybe that's a reason I require the skillset field in the character sheet, so I know what your character brings to the task force.)

(is it okay if I have an effectively limited but infinite number of random people (NP Cs )in the task to do background things? This would make it easier on me the GM. I think I'd be really bad at providing plausible and consistent number of people in the task force throughout the RP, hence me wanting an unspecified limit of people in the task force in any given time but there's essentially infinite replacements offscreen. How they're recruited? Let's say the Council, Zytex, or other people in the task force recruit them offscreen.)

(still awaiting a response from Heroic as well..... We're not done yet with Shep's summoning....)

((I think it seems reasonable for any GM to be able to have control over a virtually unlimited amount of extremely minor and background NP Cs, as long as there's only so much at a time. That's my opinion at least, not sure how everyone else would feel. Also I do have the first post for Juun's recruitment ready, but I'm thinking it'd be a better idea to PM it to you in case it needs work in some parts. It's a little lengthy, but I can promise you most of my posts won't be like that...just wanted to make sure important details were taken care of.)

((Sorry for the wait. Going to a con. I'll prolly only be able to post like maybe once or twice a day until Sunday, but then my schedule frees up considerably.))

Samuel Shepard was already mentally tabulating a list of supplies he could milk the council for for this run. He'd had his eyes on a monomolecular blade blade for some time now. But then as he was about to turn around and head out, Anderson stopped him. Shepard quirked an eyebrow at the council.

"Listen, if this is about the incident with that Elcor ambassador, Al-Jilani blew that whole thing way out of proportion." Shepard said. Sometimes he wanted to punch that woman, honestly. But he wasn't sure Valern would appreciate that.

Juun'Reyan's Recruitment

Somewhere near the border of the Attican Traverse and Outer Council Space drifted a small fragment of the Migrant Fleet, which surprisingly enough didn't consist of any Liveships. Instead it was a small collection of once derelict, abandoned ships of various classes that were refurbished and claimed by a small group of quarian machinists, engineers, repairmen and navigators. One of these ships in the makeshift convoy was a frigate that used to be part of the Turian Armada before being found abandoned and in need of moderate repairs. This small group of quarians hoping to expand the Migrant Fleet took care of the ship's needed repairs after scouring it for anything of trading or practical value and renamed the ship “The Torva,” in honor of the new ship captain's clan, as he was responsible for claiming the ship. It was mostly operational, but was in need of frequent repairs like many of the other ships in the convoy.

Within this ship was Juun'Reyan: An experienced salvager and repairman whom had recently begun his pilgrimage like many of the other quarians in his group. While the captain of the Torva had promised Juun and the several other quarians who where in pilgrimage quests of their own that they would be able to go through their rites of passage, the only opportunities they were given so far to complete their quests were whenever they and the other ships in the group encountered an abandoned vessel. The convoy was en route to the nearest mass relay when the captain of the Torva was alerted from the comm deck of an incoming transmission. They were surprised to see that it wasn't from the Migrant Fleet, but from the Citadel of all places. The Torva's captain was initially suspicious about the transmission sender's contact info, as the last time the group responded to a transmission hail that wasn't from the Migrant Fleet, they came across an MSV that appeared to be adrift, but was actually rigged with explosives and nearly killed the salvage team from one of the other ships in the group “The Vandertrask”. It turned out to be part of an elaborate trap rigged by outlaws, its intended victims unknown and of no concern to the quarians whom nearly fell victim to it, but managed to escape just in time.

The captain debated with several of his shipmates before accepting the call and learning it was addressed to Juun'Reyan, who at this point had finished hauling in a crate of iridum from the group's most recent salvaging run. He was still in the cargo hold by the time the transmission was transferred to his omni-tool, and he slowly made his way back to his end of the ship's barracks. “Hello...?” He began, confused as he wasn't expecting any messages.

Heroic Sociopath's Samuel Shepard summoning

The Council looked composed but slightly confused at the comment. The Council had come to accept Shepard's crazy antics, but that didn't stop it from catching them off guard some times. After a brief moment, Tevos spoke up,"No Commander, that is not what we where talking about. Instead we wanted to give you more information on the task force. Sparatus, care to to continue?". She waited for the Turian to respond.

Sparatus accepted the invitation to continue and said,"The task force will be lead in its day to day operations by a Turian named General Zytex Gyrandros. We still have ultimate authority over the task force, but General Zytex will help run the task force in our stead since we cannot devote all of our time to running the task force.". He gestured to Valern to continue.

Valern took the gesture and continued,"Also, in the event that something happens to us, General Zytex will be able to have even more control over the task force until we can vote in new Council members. We do have systems in place to prevent someone like him from having absolute power, but we do not consider him a great threat. He has proven himself to be loyal and competent to Citadel space and its people. If you would like, you can do some research on him in the meantime.". The Salarian nodded at Anderson to finish.

"Take this Shepard," the Human Councilor said, tapping into his omni-tool to give Shepard a file. "This file will serve as access to the Citadel Council Chambers during the task force's first meeting, located here. The file says the date and time you will need to be here as well. Although you are a Spectre and could just come into the meeting regardless if you have that file, we still want everyone in the task force to present it so we know we are not getting uninvited people coming to our meeting.". Anderson waited for Tevos to end the meeting.

The Asari took Anderson's silence as sign to end this meeting of the Council,"I hope this clears up anything about the task force and why we summoned you for the time being. If you have any other questions, ask one of our people or wait for the meeting, which will give out more information. This meeting of the Council is adjourned.". Tevos, Sparatus, and Valern all stepped away from their platforms and went back to their offices. Anderson, however stayed behind.

"Shepard, if you've got a moment, I'd like to talk to you. You can also ask me questions you may have. Don't worry, the rest of the Council knows I planned this after the meeting.", Anderson said. He waited for his friend to respond.

Paradoxial Stratgem's Juun'Reyan Recruitment

Zytex composed himself and then spoke through his communicator,"Hello Mr. Juun'Reyan nar Torva. Is it okay if I call you Juun? Anyways, my name is General Zytex Gyrandros of the Turian Hierarchy. Your skillset as a highly skilled tech user and ship engineer has drawn my interest in you. I'd like to recruit you into something of great importance to deal with a massive threat to galactic security, but I'd like your permission to continue. You may decline me at anytime, but I think it's everyone's best interest for you to hear me out.". Zytex patiently awaited a response from Juun.

Junn'Reyan wasn't sure what to think of this offer. On the one hand, he couldn't help but feel suspicious since the last transmission that wasn't from the flotilla turned out to be a trap, however unlike the last transmission which spoofed a charitable supply drop to whoever would claim it, this transmission felt...different. Perhaps because it was more specifically addressed, perhaps because it sounded more authentic because there weren't any awkward pauses or skips a trained ear could detect in what Zytex was saying, indicating that the transmission wasn't engineered.

"You can call me Juun if you want, everyone does..." Juun began before replying, "I have no idea how you managed to get my info or how you know anything about me, but if this recruitment you're talking about is genuine...I think—-no, I know I'll want to hear more about it." Little did Juun know that even though the captain had transferred the transmission to his omni-tool, he was still able to hear what both parties of the conversation was saying...he didn't like secrets being kept, and didn't care if bugging people's hardware was "unethical".

Paradoxial Stratgem's Juun'Reyan Recruitment

Zytex responded in a formal tone,"About me knowing information on you, I'm afraid that's classified Citadel information. Sorry. But onto the reason I contacted you Mr. Juun. As I am sure you and others have heard, after Saren's attack on the Citadel, the galaxy has gone haywire. One thing I'm sure you've heard about is the resurgent Geth. Their defeat at the Citadel barely phased them. They seem more powerful before and are attacking places everywhere, both in and out of Council space. I've heard the Migrant Fleet has beefed up their security in response to this, right? Anyways, moving on. The fallout of the attack of the Citadel has also given rise to reports of new factions sprouting up. We have little what idea they are at this time. To counter the Geth, these new factions, and other problems; the Citadel Council has made a new black ops task force. I serve as the de facto leader of this new task force. We are accepting skilled people of all races and professions to help out in this new task force. I decided to try and recruit you due to your afore mentioned technical and ship engineering skills. I'd think you'd be an excellent addition to the team provided we work on your irritability, self centeredness, etc. Also, if you decide to join, you will be provided access to top of the line equipment, some even extralegal. Also, we plan on compensating every member of the task force, including you. Knowing this, do you want to join our task force, Mr. Juun?". Zytex waited for a response.

(this response I did to you strikes me as iffy. Part of me doesn't like it and I think it's rather poorly written.)

Juun was still unsure what to think of the offer, but he couldn't hide his interest or amazement. He figured it probably didn't matter how a turian like Zytex had information on him, their militaristic society probably had some kind of hidden intelligence agency that worked with the citadel to provide information on all council and non-council races, and probably knew about almost every quarian in the Migrant Fleet. He was already enticed by the chance to obtain better equipment, and while he imagined the kind of missions he'd be on with the task force would benefit his people in some way (especially if it meant fighting the Geth), the most important detail for him was the possibility of completing his pilgrimage, which meant more to him than he let on.

“Well the good news for you, is that our group was already heading to the Citadel to try and trade some supplies. I'm not sure my captain would just let me leave his crew, though between you and me I'm starting not to care what he thinks anymore. I'd rather have a chance to demonstrate and improve my skills than let him squander my talents any longer, especially if there's a chance for me to fulfill my pilgrimage. Long answer short, I'm interested in joining this task force.” Juun eventually replied after returning to the barracks in his designated quarters.

Unbeknowest to Juun, Captain Zhet'Torva heard everything in the convo, and was not amused. He knew there was some discontent growing under his command, but the self-centeredness in Juun's statement and his eagerness to leave the group was what annoyed him the most. Still, he kept the transmission going not only because he was curious to see what more potential benefits there could have been for the Quarian race, but also to avoid making it obvious he was spying on Juun's omni-tool.

"Zytex? I heard of him." Shepard said. "If it weren't for him, the Citadel would have fallen." He tried his best to keep abreast of the news. It was just good practice when you were a Spectre, since odds are you'd end up rubbing elbows with half the people mentioned at some point. He'd seen a picture of the Turian, and though the soldier was aged, he was very handsome. He supposed it made sense the Council would put him in charge. Though Shepard had made Spectre, he was still young. He'd seen a lot of combat, but there were still more experienced soldiers that he could learn from.

"Alright, take care! It was nice seeing you guys!" Shepard said to the Council as they left. Then he turned to Anderson.

"Not a lot." Shepard said. "Save the world. Throw around some sparkly space wizard magic. Sounds pretty routine to me." He shrugged. He rubbed his chin. "But...I will need a monomolecular blade for this mission." He'd wanted a monomolecular blade for a while. He'd been procrastinating because the paperwork for non-standard equipment was kind of a huge pain in the butt. He did have something that was eating him.

"I don't want to sound vain. Because God knows I already do that enough. But why is Zytex in charge? Any reason in particular?" Shepard asked. He weighed his words carefully. "I'm not saying that he's not great for the job. But is he being considered for Spectrehood?" Shepard supposed it would make sense. Two Salarian spectres had died in less than a year. They'd want a representative. What the Council was to diplomacy, the Spectres were to combat. The comparison was inexact, but not completely inexact.

"And any idea where we're going first?" Shepard asked. "Gotta know if I need to buy a new swimsuit." He then winked at Captain Anderson.

Heroic Sociopath's Samuel Shepard summoning

Anderson responded to Shepard's questions,"About General Zytex, he was placed in charge for his excellent leadership skills, excellent diplomacy skills, his ability to get things done, the fact he's run special operations forces before, and his excellent tactical and strategic skills. He also has lots of connections in the Turian Hierarchy and the Citadel forces, partly because of himself, partly because of his family. And yeah, his excellent defense of the Citadel while onboard the station did wonders to help us win against Sovereign. General Zytex is also very reliable despite his tendencies to have some of his own agendas. There's other reasons, but we'll get to that later.".

Anderson took a brief pause and then continued,"About your question for General Zytex being considered for the Spectres, we're discussing it but he's not on the table to be mad one. I'm not sure any of us know why he's not a Spectre due to his skills, but maybe some his .... tendencies ... and his desire to stay where he's at as a general in the Turian Hierarchy. Council members have been discussing his possibility of being considered for the Spectres several times already, but it's never gotten anywhere. Maybe with the fact he's leading a black ops task force, he'll finally be put onto a Spectre position, maybe even without his consent. I think it only makes sense."

Anderson took another brief paused and then said,"Where you're going after the meeting is too be decided. We have reports, but it's up to Zytex. And for your monomolecular blade, you'll have to ask Zytex or one of his people for one. We're too busy to get you one."

After he was finished with that last sentence, Anderson suddenly got more serious than before and toned down his voice. He got closer to Shepard and said,"There's another reason we're making this task force Shepard. This reason is not known to many outside the Council; top politicians, rich people, and businesspeople; and the top members of the task force including Zytex. We've also made the this task force to find anyway to stop the Reapers. All the top brass knows about them, and while some dismiss it as crackpot theories; you, me, the Council, Zytex, and others all know the truth. To be honest Shepard, some of us are terrified of them Reapers and the possibility that they might return. We publicy deny the Reapers to the populace to prevent and uproar, but we make no efforts to stop people who know the truth or really want to learn it. As I said, Zytex knows all too well what the Reapers are and what they can do. It's one of the reasons we made him the leader of the task force. He knows a lot that he needs to know from reading mission reports like yours. I'm sorry for revealing this too late, but I don't want to cause anyone to panic. Shepard, if anyone can stop the Geth, Reapers, and theses new factions, it's you helping the task force. Sorry to saddle you with so much, but we can't deny what's out there, especially since the greatest threat to the galaxy is literally a Mass Relay jump away.".

Anderson stepped away, got less formal, and raised his voice,"Is there anything else you wanted to discuss Shepard?". He awaited a response.

(Heroic, can you please tell me what a monomolecular blade is? I need to know to see how lore friendly it is and I need to know what it is in general. Also, with the "greatest threat to the galaxy is literally a Mass Relay jump away." line, that's referring to the fact the Citadel is a Mass Relay, albeit a dormant one and one far harder to activate without knowledge of it. This will eventually have something to do with the endgame I have planned as well.)

(Paradoxial, I'll finish up you recruitment when I make my new OC. I have plans for him to be involved somehow.)

"Tendencies, hm?" Shepard asked, raisin an eyebrow at Councilor Anderson. Some of Shepard's own behaviours had been described as "tendencies". Had he met a kindred spirit? Did the Turian hide beneath his manly exterior a tender soul like his own? He made a mental note to investigate further.

"It's good to know the Council is taking the Reapers seriously." Shepard said. "I'm not worried. If Zytex and I work together, we're gonna put boots to asses." He nodded, glancing to the side, as he imagined himself and Zytex back to back, murdering reapers. "Leave it to me, though I might ask for a bump in my pay grade." He chuckled. "No, but seriously, it seems like 'save the galaxy' sums up the Spectre job description, doesn't it? No further questions." He said.

Heroic Sociopath's Samuel Shepard summoning

Anderson responded back,"If that's the case, I have to get back to work. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in my free time, our people, or General Zytex's people. And about General Zytex's tendencies, it's nothing like you. Let's just say he likes to do his own thing sometimes during missions or have his own agendas. It's never gotten bad with him, but it has raised complaints. Anyways, take care Shepard.". Anderson did a gesture of farewell then walked off.

(respond in some way and we are done. The sword sounds okay as long as all it does is be a super cutter. I think I've seen the sword in ME 3 MP and shoots out things there. I don't know how ME 1 lore friendly a sword that shoots out things is. Of course, this is open to discussion. And don't expect to use that sword as much as you might be thinking. In an age with super powered guns and other weapons, using a sword in general combat seems akin to suicide. To compensate for the guns in ME 1 being mostly short to mid range designed, I'm buffing their long range accuracy. Shotguns for example can now hit in longer ranges. Let's call the guns' ranges in ME 1 a gameplay feature, not strictly how'd they'd actually operate. Also remember I will be allowing SMG class guns and that the guns still operate on an overheat system with effectively infinite ammo. Thermal clip weapons are planned to show up later, but they will not replace the overheat guns. Instead they will be hybrided with overheat guns later. The overheat system will rightfully be called the superior method over the thermal clip guns. Guns can operate in different firing modes IRP and do not have to follow ME 1's strict "this weapon type only fires in one firing mode". I am open to discussion about other weapon classes as well.)

(The main thing that is tripping me up about my new OC is what race they should be. I have other details ready, but my desire to make a diverse cast is tripping me up. Zytex worked well because I like Turians and in retrospect it makes a lot of sense that Turian would be charge of a task force like this or at least be a high ranking member. This new OC's race is tripping me up, speaking that I want them to be an non-Human, non-Turian that is a race that makes sense. This OC will be an old military friend of Zytex's.)

(I was thinking a Salarian at first, but I see some problems. First is Salarians's short life span of around 40 Earth years. This means even if the Salarian was in their late 30s to be an old military buddy of Zytex, they wouldn't have met until later (it might be okay if this is done though). I mean Salarians mature faster than other races to compensate, but meh. Also, I want to make another (female) Salarian OC down the line. Having two (or more) Salarians without having other characters of different races. Or perhaps I'm worrying too much. Salarians make a ton of sense, but yeah.)

(my new OC. Sorry for the poor writing.)

  • Name: Fa'ana (Fana) Seleya
  • Race: Asari
  • Gender: Female (like all Asari)
  • Age: 460s in Earth years
  • Skillset: Powerful biotic, very good with people, excellent at training others in spec ops and biotic techniques, great strategist and tactician, good at leading
  • Occupation: High ranking member in the task force, higher ranking Asari special forces, trainer
  • Personality: Very personable. Loves training new talent, esp. in special forces and biotic techniques. When out of combat, friendly, kind, etc. In combat, serious and can be a hard ass; but is fair, level headed, etc. Prefers to be closer to the front lines with her troops. A bit less relaxed than Zytex when it comes to matters of race, but is still nice to most races. <possibly more later>
  • Home: TBD
  • Biography: Fa'ana Seleya, also known as Fana, is a higher ranking Asari special forces member. Ever since she was a young girl, Fana was very interested in military service and protecting galaxy. When Fana thought she was old enough; she joined various mercenary groups, security forces, and more (all "ethical" and "lawful" though) in an effort to gain more experience to be accepted into the best of the best of the Asari spec ops. Throughout her service in the various groups making a name for herself, she would periodically put in requests to be accepted, but she had no luck in her maiden years until she was in her early 300s.

Upon being recruited into the Asari special forces, Fana was put in a place lower place than she had wanted. Still, she was happy to finally be a member in the organization she had always wanted to be in. Fana put in lots of effort when she was recruited, hoping to make more of name for herself besides just her reputation she built in her mercenary days. Even when Fana hit her matron stage, she had no desire to quit the special forces and in fact had even more drive than before to succeed. Due to the Asari having many ranks in their special forces and it being harder to be promoted in Asari units due the Asaris' long term view of the world, Fana found it took a while to get higher in the ranking. This did bother her much however, as she found it fun to take on the foes of the Asari Republics and Citadel space.

Fana continued making a name for herself in the Asari special forces and found that she loved leading and training others. She eventually applied and was accepted to be a junior field commander and trainer, training new recruits in special forces operations, and not just Asari ones. She also had developed a huge competency for biotics and also became a junior trainer in that field as well.

One of Fana's most successful trainees was the Turian Zytex Gyrandros. Due to the Turians' distrust of biotics (Zytex is a biotic) and Zytex's high competencies, Zytex was assigned to the Turian special forces. While being trained, Fana was assigned to train the Turian in both special forces and biotics, among other things. The two developed a strong friendship and bond during their time training, which persisted even after they where done. The two went on plenty of missions together which increased their bond even more. Eventually Zytex was able to secure a higher rank than Fana in the Citadel special forces (based on ranking in their own species' ranking systems. Asari rank up slower and have more ranks than the Turians due the Asari having a longer lifespan and worldview), but the two still maintained close relations, with Fana serving under Zytex's command several times. While Fana has some issues with Zytex's quirks, such as his tendency to do his own thing; Fana calls Zytex one of her greatest students. The Turian in turn returns the compliment, calling her the best teacher he's had.

Even after finishing training Zytex and working with him, Fana sill continued leading and training, eventually being promoted past the junior stages and being a full fledged leader and trainer. During the incident with Saren, Fana showed interest in taking down the Spectre, but was always too late to do anything. She was allowed by Zytex to read the mission reports he was allowed to get his hands on. While Fana was disturbed by some of what she saw, especially the Reapers, she did not take it as hard as him. When Saren and his Geth attacked the Citadel, Fana was in Zytex's defense group as they attempted to stop the invaders. She was surprised when the attack was over far sooner than she expected and led the group that swept the Citadel for remaining Geth after the attack. Fana was also able to read the classified reports of mission reports of the attack on the Citadel, Ilos, and more through Zytex.

When Zytex was asked to lead the Council's new black ops task force, one of the first people he recruited was Fana. The Turian asked her to be a subordinate leader, trainer, tactician, strategist, and more; which Fana gladly accepted. Fana now hopes to take down the Geth, Reapers, and anything else that dares to threaten the Asari and Citadel space.

<More if I want to>

  • Character plans: Friends with Zytex and a subordinate leader. Will likely be a field commander, secondary recruiter, and trainer to those in the task force. I doubt she'll die IRP, but she's not as important as Zytex, so who knows. Also, I plan on keeping Zytex and Fana's relationship strictly a platonic good friendship. I see no reason to have romantic relationships ever, especially amongst my own characters.

Is it too late to express interest in the RP? I'm thinking of putting together a Krogan OC, but it'll take a day or two for me to properly write up a character sheet.

[up]Except during specific times, I'm planning on new OCs and the like coming in at anytime during the RP's session. Go ahead and draft me up your character's sheet and I'll look at it when I have time. We're still getting started, so you have some time without worrying on missing some things.

Expressing interest is almost never too late though except until we reach our endgame, which is a long ways away.

Finally, my new OC is done. She may also recruit people, esp. later on.

Paradoxial Stratgem's Juun'Reyan Recruitment

Zytex got more serious but still formal and said with a very slight tinge of disappointment in his voice into his communicator,"I do expect those who join the task force to have their own agendas, including myself, but know this. Do not treat your fellow task force members poorly or inferior to you, got it? Anyways, welcome to the task force. I am sending you and your crew a temporary docking license and business license, which will allow you to dock in a good place on the Citadel and actually be able to carry out some business. Also, I am sending you, Mr. Juun, a file that will serve as authorization to get into the Citadel Council Chambers on our first meeting date. The docking and business licenses will last a bit of time and will not be able to be revoked by any C-Sec officer or any military officer of a lower rank than me. However, I highly recommend that once you get into the Citadel's space that you contact me immediately. Quarians still have lots of prejudice against them, including on the Citadel, which is why I am giving you this advice and the licenses. I will be able to pull the right strings to get you hear rather safe and soundly. If need be, I will send some of my people to get you. Still, you must contact me beforehand as otherwise I will be too busy to help you until it's possibly too late. Please take this information to your Captain, assuming he doesn't know already. I expect to see you on the the date I have given you Mr. Juun. You will need that file to get in. If you have any other questions, contact my people. Good day.". Zytex cut off communications. However, he was soon contacted by his friend, Fa'ana Seleya.

"Zytex, we were listening into that conversation and it seems like the conversation was be listened onto by Juun's shipmate's. It was easy stuff to crack, their systems are old and not very secure by today's standards. We didn't cut it off because we thought there was no reason too.", the Asari said through her communicator.

Zytex sighed and then said,"I suspected as much. Thanks for the information, Fana. And good call. I'll continue to look for other people to recruit.". Zytex went back to browsing his files for more interesting people to recruit into the task force.

(respond and we are done)
