PG-13?! What f***ery is this? I want my Wonder Woman with gratuitous nudity, excess swearing and more blood than Mortal Kombat/ sarcasm.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.
Funny enough, the animated Wonder Woman film did turn some heads with the body count. It was one of the earlier DC animated movies but even today it's still relatively high up there on the violence: weapons embedded in bodies, silhouetted blood splatters, beheadings, etc. It is only outdone only by the likes of Under the Red Hood and Flashpoint Paradox.
I posted a link a few pages back. That animated Wonder Woman movie is receiving an R rated director's Cut this year.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureI liked that movie. :)
I like to keep my audience riveted.Saw a trailer for this recently when I went to see the Power Rangers movie.
I feel like this is kind of ripping off the first Captain America movie (I know the plots are different, it's just hard to ignore how they're both WWII period pieces), but I don't think that's strictly a bad thing. I'll probably go see it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? This is WW 1.
Funny thing, the original TV show had the first season take place in WWII and was retooled in the second season to take place in the contemporary 70's, along with a Time Skip and Steve Trevor Jr. Wonder Woman has almost always been tied to WWII like Captain America, her immortality serves the same function as Captain America being frozen. But even if done relatively modern with Steve Trevor a soldier in The War On Terror, people would probably find similarities to the MCU Thor just because of her connection to mythology.
A lot of superheroes have their origins in World War 2.
Even in modern fictional settings, unless they're going for a 'superheroes just showed up like yesterday'', World War 2 and the associated time periods are when vigilantes, mythical heroes, mystery men, Nazi ubermensch, and the like all made their first big public appearances.
That is doubtless part of the reason to set this movie in World War 1 to distance it a bit from others, but it works because Diana's immortal and could have feasibly fought in any war from World War 2 to the Peloponnesian war.
Plus the symbolism of Diana confidently marching into "No man's land" is worth it in and of itself.
WWI was also the lynchpoint of the Woman's Suffragette movement, and that ties in very well with specifically Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman director describes George Perez influence on film http://www.cbr.com/wonder-woman-patty-jenkins-george-perez-influence/
Is this WB stealthily expressing little faith or them not wanting an underperformance like the last few movies?
You decide!
WWI is also considered more pointlessly destructive then WWII (which was a lot easier to sell as the "just war" given the threat). WWI was a bunch of nations picking up the idiot ball and running with it full-bore for two years. And the idea of the pointless slaughter (via stupid tactics) in places like The Somme, or Passchendaele, or Verdun, or Gallipoli, etc are well-known.
So if you have a character who's about compassion and wanting to help people, then sticking her in the middle of that mess makes some kind of thematic sense.
^^ Well lets be clear, WB didn't release that statement. It is an external projection made by Box Office Pro. It's also two months early, it's not until about two weeks ahead of time they get an accurate gauge.
I imagine a number of people are waiting for reviews and audience response before giving it a try.
Did you actually read the article? It's not from WB.
Guys, WB does enough shit wrong with the DCEU that you don't have to go around grasping at straws to find something bad they supposedly did.
Another look at◊ Ares from the Lego set.
Do you know the release date of the movie? No? Don't worry, WB apparently doesn't either.
A little over a month remaining and still not much advertising of the movie. Ugh!
Cool video essay.
Funny that this was posted a day before this was announced.
Like it or not NASCAR has a lot of viewers and that car will be featured in two big races.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureGood points towards the end of that video. Wonder Woman's lack of exposure compared to the Superman and Batman is kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point.
They've been advertising on social media a bit. They've also had three very high profile trailers and numerous other news items. It's very unlikely WB would actually be treating this callously. I for one don't have regular TV so I have no idea about any tv spots of any movie that isn't put online.
TV spot #1
Yes.
PG-13 is probably the right rating for Wonder Woman. Some superheroes do benefit from an R rating, but I don't believe she's one of them.
