[up] I'm sure most people in Germany aren't aware of the different species of dangerous fungi either.

Foraging is not that rare in nations that are not fully industrialized.

^^Actually, being careful about fungi is something one learns about. I did live in Germany until my teenage years and I still remember some of the practical advice regarding this.

Mushroom collecting is a somewhat popular German pasttime. Syrians who don't die from mushroom poisoning might find that something to bond over.

[up]But the people who do it actually know very well what they pick up in the woods. I wouldn't do it.

The mushroom we talk about (has that been mentioned) is the 'Knollenblätterpilz'(Amanita phalloides- death cap). It looks very similar to an eatable fungus growing in warm climates. Germany put up warning signs to keep the refugees and migrants from foraging.

On another note; there have been some reports about violence in refugee camps and some are debating that they should divide the refugees and migrants according to ethnicity. http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/fluechtlingsunterkunft-in-hamburg-gewalt-loest-polizeieinsatz-aus-a-1055609.html and with winter slowly drawing nearer and nearer I think the problem of housing and such keeps growing and growing.

Before accepting immigrants or refugees ... we must raise our birth rate

It makes total sense form his perspective, if they take in refugees without raising the brith rate then Japan may stop being racially pure, which is what he cares about.

The more I read about German reunification the more aware I become on how fortunate we were that things turned out how they did. Almost everything went our way back then.

And while there have been some questionable decisions regarding the absorbtion of the GDR into the Federal republic, it should be noted that there were not many data and suggestions available on how to properly integrate the GDR's economy. Most experts vastly overestimated the potential of the GDR's economy (which was even ranked as 9th biggest of the world for some time) and many suggestons and works on how to do it were only published many years after they would have been useful.

My bet is that the EU is going to declare Turkey a "safe" country and help finance more refugee camps (in Turkey).

Malaysia is taking on 3000 Syrian refugees.

However, their placement has yet to be finalised.

For once the Malaysian government has proven itself to the world at large that it is not completely dysfunctional, but their track record on handling refugees isn't really that good to say the least.

No agreement is expected on Monday in Brussels, but the hope is to finalise the outlines of a new policy with Turkey at an EU summit next week.

Yeah, this has a good chance of being approved. If it actually happens, I expect a similar deal with Lebanon.

I actually caught a video of that yesterday. Was like the "Immigrants treating their refuges as if they were hotel rooms and being spoiled and bitchy about it"

Not terribly at all?

Seriously I've heard nothing bad about Sweden welcoming refuges, beyond the issues it's caused Denmark due to refuges travelling though Denmark.

[up] May have to do with that recent UN report that Sweden is white-washing its racism.

http://qz.com/516017/sweden-is-not-the-tolerant-raceless-paradise-it-claims-to-be/

I think Sweden is above-average, race-wise, but of course - not pristine. I don't think any place can make the claim to be 100% racism-free.
