Mod needed for YKTTW board

IMO, the YKTTW board suffers from a lack of ownership. Users start threads but don't hang around long enough to see the launch of their projects through. I also suspect some hesitation because of the launching process involving more than just a click of a button. As a result we have numerous abandoned 5-hatted ready-for-launch tropes that stand a good chance to never see the day of light. All it takes is one motivated mod experienced in launching tropes to clean up the backlog and occasionally YKTTW Bump hopefuls.

Opinions? Volunteers?

Right now there's supposedly a lot of behind-the-scenes focus on a revamp of TV Tropes that's likely to greatly change how YKTTW works, hopefully in ways that fix its many problems.

Also, you don't need a moderator to launch a YKTTW, not even to launch the YKTTW of other people. I just advise that 5 hats in and of themselves are not enough to launch.

[up] There are indeed some changes coming to YKTTW. We hope to have them up on the dev. server by the end of the week, along with about 3 months of other work we have put in.

@Septimus: There are probably many examples of such YKTT Ws, but it begs the question what is sufficient.

Years ago, three examples, even without context, were deemed "good enough". Old times...

^^^ Two weeks are gone and I am still waiting for the promised upgrade of YKTTW. What is the status there?

^ Coding a website from the ground up takes a lot longer than two weeks, especially when it needs to handle the volume of information and users TV Tropes does. Also, we're working on making the various bits of the site work together more seamlessly which means that most likely, the new version will be coming in tandem with a lot of other integrated features.

It's going to take a lot longer than two weeks to do all that, and to test it enough to make sure it's not full of bugs at launch.

"All it takes is one motivated mod experienced in launching tropes..."

This suggests a disposition towards launching new articles. Personally, I would prefer that discarding was more common.

Discarding is probably better and needed.

Isn't it better to just create a mechanic that wouldn't allow people to load tropes until they have 5 hats? And instead of mods outright discarding YKTTW's, give them an instrument that lets them suspend a YKTTW until the sponsor fixes it. Sorry for barging in, just my two cents.

Hats are not the be-all and end-all of YKTTW quality. Especially since they tend to be governed by interest just as much as quality.

[up]Yeah, I guess you're right. But it could at least prevent people from launching a YKTTW without any feedback.

It is unlikely that band-aid patches will be applied to the existing YKTTW system before it's overhauled entirely.
