So... Blip's shutting down.

Yeah, blip.tv recently announced that they're shutting down on the 20th of August... Yeah, kinda stunned and worried. Got a lot of people I follow on there and I'd love to help archive it all but I wouldn't know where to START, let alone what to do... So, anyone have any thoughts on this?

If you're looking for a free Blip downloader, you can use savevideo.me. If you're archiving stuff, here's some tips:

1) Focus on the more obscure stuff. If there are producers whose videos reach views in the millions, chances are greater that somebody has already downloaded their videos.

2) Look up the producers' social media pages. They are bound to have discussed what they are going to do with the videos and their future plans. If they are already using a separate video host, chances are good that their stuff will be uploaded there as well.

3) Have priorities on who you're focusing on. Using reviewers as an example, a film reviewer is probably going to have a tougher time transitioning than a game reviewer simply because of how the copyright watchdogs work. Videos with copyrighted music will most likely be edited if they're posted on Youtube, so if you want the uncut video you should probably download it now.

That's all that comes to mind right now. The most important thing however is to not panic. There are plenty of other people who are archiving videos as we speak, and every little bit helps.

I hope someone is archiving Jew Wario's videos.

If You Tube gets much more of a monopoly, we made need to get some sort of publically owned video sharing utility set up.

I can't really say that I'm sad to see blip go. Liked people who produced videos, didn't really like the video player. I'm wondering where others are gonna go once Blip's dead.

Many people are moving to YT, as well as to Springboard and Screenwave.

OK. That explains why Mike J uploaded an infomercialism episode on YT and why Phelous and Bobsheux are uploading their old videos on their accounts.

Meh. I only ever watched Blip for TV Trash and Rowdy already moved to Daily Motion last year.

Well this sucks for me. Screenwave and sundry never work right for me. Blip's pretty much the only one.

Count me in as one of the few who hasn't had problems with the Blip player in over a year.

@Chase: I know about that site, it's more that I wouldn't know where to start. If there was like an organized project or something, I'd certainly consider joining.

Some folks over at the Channel Awesome forums are organising to save some videos.

That's great to see! I just hope it all works out.

Checking their thread, seems like things are going smoothly, I might look into helping out if need be, but no sure where they'd need my help (Would have to ask).

Well, I guess I no longer have to see "The Next Style Star" and that creepy-faced Vinyl guy when I go to search for videos.

I knew something was going on with Blip when they stopped updating their front page.

Anyone got Jesu Otaku's videos or videos from the Desu Des Brigade?

Blip going away breaks a lot of websites....

I think some of Jesu's videos are still on her Youtube page. Not all of them, mind you but theirs still some of her older ones there.
