The guys have the exact same faces. The only difference is their primary colour and facial expression.

Yup, it's a shoujo.

Hidan no Aria AA

I think I've heard bad things about this one?

[up]Bog-tier Shana knockoff is what I've heard about it and I checked out two episodes some time ago. It is indeed a bog-tier Shana knockoff.

It was a bit silly, but fairly enjoyable for what it was.

I don't quite get why they do an adaptation of a spin-off no one really cares about instead of a potentially awesome season 2 of the main series, but… at least it looks better animated than the first series?

Uh, while I haven't heard great things about Hidan No Aria in general, what I meant was that I think I've heard bad things about AA in specific

Shame we won't be seeing Leon and the gang again (this one's a couple of centuries too early at least), but the prospect of the first ever lady-GARO is compelling. Or, if she has to be an Alchemist, it'd be nice if she kicks as much ass as Ema did.

What's precedent ever done for us?

Comet Lucifer

Not sure about the stated premise, but damn, that PV

Not sure about the stated premise
Isn't that true of about 78% of all anime? Including most of the best ones?

Another 4koma

I've read a fair bit of this one, and it's pretty bland. I can only assume it's getting an anime because it's from the author of Danna

Would really have preferred a Kobayashi-san chi no Maid Dragon anime

Are we sure that Comet Lucifer is an anime and not just a new instalment in the Tales of franchise? Because it is giving me major Tales of Graces and Tales of Xillia vibes.

...Well, that's one way to make the original even crappier.

Monster Strike seems to be interesting. If it is a good anime I'll pick up the mobile game it is based on. But I prefer if Tokyo 7th Sisters is adapted instead.

Exercise routines. Probably safe to assume these'll be shorts

Preview time! Because most everything should be announced by now and I'm bored

Also, I've made a point of hunting down any relevant manga this timenote

Newnote  stuff:

Ani Tore! EX

No-name staff, and animated by a studio you've never heard of before. Probably going to be shorts!

It's about girls working out, so we can expect some level of fanservice, but the fanservice/edutainment/moe ratio remains unclear and probably will until it airs

Anti-Magic Academy 35th Test Platoon

Like Index, but with more LN cliches and bad comedy

Comet Lucifer

So Nomura Yuuichi had this great idea for a new JRPG, with a mysterious girl, crystals, giant robots, the works, but then he accidentally presented the concept to an anime studio instead of a game studio

Okay, probably not. Jokes aside, The staff hasn't worked on much and has had mixed results on what they have worked on. Might be good, might be a trainwreck. Or both

Concrete Revolutio Choujin Gensou

Ah, this one is interesting. Mizushima Seiji and Aikawa Shou don't have the best resumes when working with others, but have put out some hits working together. Which they are for this

Uh, the combination of subject matter and art style recalls Rolling Girls, but I wouldn't expect it to be very similar

Dance With Devils

Looks like generic otome shit with a musical gimmick, but the staff is actually pretty good. Might be worth checking out. I mean, if you like shoujo stuff at all

Gakusen Toshi Asterisk

Looking at the premise, you'd expect it to be a completely generic LN thing. Looking at the manga reveals that it's actually a completely generic LN thing. The PV shows some decent animation, so if you like completely generic LN things it might be worth checking out

GARO -Guren no Tsuki-

Remember Honoo no Kokuin? Yeah, this has basically none of same staff. The directed has only previously directed Guin Saga, and the writer... remember what I said about Aikawa Shou only really working well with Mizushima Seiji?

Hacka Doll the Animation

It's based on ads for a news app. Ads I found to be kind of eh. Would not have high expectations for this

Heavy Object

From the mind that gave us Index, we get a series about infantry taking down giant robotsnote

The great thing about Kamachi is that he writes like an imaginative 12-year-old instead of a chuuni 15-year-old the way most LN authors do. The bad thing about Kamachi is also that he writes like an imaginative 12-year-old, but you can't win them all

Hidan no Aria AA

This is not a second season of Hidan No Aria. I know the title looks like one, but it's a spinoff. Specifically, it's a spinoff of the "popular series, but with less boys and more lesbians" style, except that it's based on Hidan no Aria instead of a popular series

Anyway, the manga is alright. Decidedly shounen sensibilities, which is a bit odd with a cast of cute lesbiansnote . Lots of short arcs that should map to anime episodes well

High School Star Musical

Staff resumes include things like Prince of Tennis, Black Butler, and Kuroko no Basuke. This should tell you everything you need to know

Kagewani

Did anyone watch Yamishibai? This has the staff from that

Uh, for information more likely to be relevant to people reading this, it's a horror story told as shorts. I don't think horror works well in serial form, so I don't expect this to turn out well

Komori-san wa Kotowarenai!

I can only assume this getting made due to it being made by the author of Danna ga Nani o Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken, because it's among the blandest 4koma series I've ever read. Just incredibly repetitive

Lance N Masques

Uh, it looks cute and poorly animated? I wasn't able to find much about it

The anime is being written by the author of the original books, so there'll probably be some effort into making the adaptation actually work. Or there might be pointless changes because the author doesn't want to write the same story twice, like with Gakkou Gurashi

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans

This show basically proves that G-Reco was never intended to be a hit, and was created to humour Tomino

Er, the big thing here is that Okada is more or less in chargenote . Okada does dark, melodramatic shows when left to her own devices. Not much of a big-picture writer, so don't expect much exploration of the technology or speeches on the power of understanding

One Punch Man

Somewhere between a superhero parody and a regular superhero series. Very popular. Never really clicked with me. Good monster design, though

Onsen Yousei Hakone-chan

The impression I get is this is one of those cute semi-romances that mostly disappeared when people realized that the male lead wasn't necessary. Don't actually know much about it, though

The number of positions the director is holding makes me think it might be shorts

Ore ga Ojou-sama Gakkou ni 'Shomin Sample' Toshite Gets-rareta Ken

The title is long enough to break the wiki, which I believe is a record

So, decent harem comedy. Emphasis here on comedy

Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan

So there's this boy at a magic school and he's the worst except that he's secretly the best and he's rooming with this hot girl who's the nominal best and is totally into him and uuuugggghhhh

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru

Mystery series, untested staff. PV had good animation but the tone felt off to me. We'll see

Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou

A middle-school AU parody of Shingeki No Kyojin. The manga it's based on gets most of it's entertainment value from the sheer absurdity of the situation, with the giants attending the same school as the regular humans. I don't think it's very good! On the other hand, the PV doesn't actually look much like the manga

Subete ga F ni Naru

Adaptation of a very well known mystery novel that I haven't read. Staff have mostly worked on things that have received mixed reviews

Utawarerumono Itsuwari no Kamen

Probably safe to assume you don't need to have seen the nearly decade-old original series to watch this

Valkyrie Drive -Mermaid-

Action fantasy with lesbian fanservice! They do have a decent writer on board, so there might be more to it than that. Might

Young Black Jack

I guess it's a shounen series about surgery? I don't know, I couldn't find the manga and haven't seen anything else in the franchise

Sequels I have things to say about:

Diabolik Lovers More,Blood

Diabolik Wifebeaters is back, but the assistant director is now the director, and there's a new writer. Who's mostly worked on Jewelpet before

K: Return of Kings

You should watch the movie before watching this. The movie is a direct continuation of the first series

Owarimonogatari

It got an announcement confirming that it existed, was a TV series, and would be out in October, and there's been no news since It's adapting the first two volumes of Owari. The third volume will be adapted later, as will Koyomi, the preceding arc

Yuru-Yuri San☆Hai!

Okay, this one is weird. The first two seasons had the same staff and had a sense of humour with a fair bit of edge to it. Some time passed, and then it got an OVA with different staff and way more slice-of-life sensibilities. Then that OVA got a sequel that made more effort at being similar to the first two seasons (but was still way more SoL then they ever were)

Now, this season has the staff of the OVAs, but also has a scenario credit shared between the director and Fukami Makoto. Beyond the question of why an adaptation of a plotless comedy manga even needs a scenario, it should be noted that Fukami has written a 4koma series about yuri BDSM, an LN about assassinsnote , the scripts for the parts of Psycho Pass people actually likenote , and so on. Likes yuri, but way more on the edgy side

In short, I have no idea what's going on

Sequels I don't have things to say about:

Fafner in the Azure: Exodus 2

Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka??

Haikyuu!! 2

The Kindaichi Case Files R 2

Noragami Aragoto

Seraph of the End 2

Shinmai Maou no Testament Burst

Other:

  • Ultra Super Anime Timenote  is a programming block of three shorts. Two of them are going to be Hacka Doll and Kagewani. I'm not sure if there's a third yet to be announced or if one of the current series is actually 2-cour Miss Monochrome is getting another cour
  • World Trigger is getting cancelled and replaced with a spinoff. Or maybe it's a filler arc with a new title. I don't know, Toei is keeping mum
  • Either Gakusen Toshi Asterisk or Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan involved the male lead returning a handkerchief early in the series. I don't know which, because they're so similar I remember them as though they were the same series

Oh, I forgot that Utawarerumono had sequels.

Edit: No wonder I forgot, the game isn't even out yet.

Rakudai isn't that bad. So far I don't think there's been any huge ass pulls? I'm not a good judge on that though.

I'm just waiting to hear that the digimon movie that was supposed to be released 2 months ago has been delayed to Winter.
