So apparently, this film is Robin Williams' last film performance. And it's a drama film, to boot. It's coming out in theaters next month, July 10.

I saw the trailer for this last night. I find it a little uncanny.

But, it reminds me a little of a scene from one movie where he was counseling an off-duty soldier, I think, only glimpsed it on Youtube. The kid had some artistic background and they were busting each other on their interpretation of a painting, but Robin's character was doing his "hilariously symbolic argument to get to the heart of the matter" thing.

Good Will Hunting, that was it. I need to watch this, first time I've heard him curse, too, Schindler's List, Patch Adams, Jumangi, Doubtfire, never heard it. Anyway, it's uncanny that this would film would have such a dramatic tone to it.

Just one correction: He isn't counselling a off-duty soldier, he's counselling a young science prodigy who's also a thrill junkie who enjoys being an asshole.

I recall my problem with that movie being that said young prodigy (the titular Will Hunting) did not deserve to be redeemed at the end.

Anyway the trailer struck me as somewhat generic, but I will certainly watch it. Robin William's swan song is worth witnessing just for its existence.

I guess its because of Williams's character helping a much younger character, that similarity. Not like Doubtfire where it was his kids, Patch Adams where he was a doctor, Jumangi, when he really didn't care about the kids at first.

This character seems to have taken some genuine compassion for the kid he's trying to help, and it's not just some innocent kid either, it's a young man who seems to have taken the wrong path in life. To see Robin, reaching out to that guy, to the point of getting a black eye for his trouble, I don't know. It's oddly touching as a swan song.

"Nothing turned out the way I thought I guess... and suddenly, I'm sixty years old."

[up]Oh, a science prodigy, I see. I've heard of the film before, I just never took the time, but that scene alone makes me want to watch it.
