[up] I think what Faro did is all the more tragic when you consider the usual state of play with audio logs - they're normally used in Horror games / levels, where you eventually stop the horror.

For me the tragedy comes from the fact that these people are SO long dead and there was a real sense of hopelessness - you can't save them and it really sells the melancholy. And then the horror for the Alphas that they just... die. And you don't get to "defeat" or get some form of karma on Ted. He's long gone in this game. I'm in some form of accordance with Sylens: the loss of Apollo is horrific. Every culmination of culture and learning... gone.

I am looking forward to DLC. And just spending more time - I felt a distinct satisfaction but also melancholy on finishing this.

[up] Have you killed Redmaw and elevated Talanah? Because talking to Ligan IS the right thing to do. They aren't there.
.

Yeah, I was able to carry on the questline. It's just that the list I found specified the Deadliest Game quest as a requirement for the trophy. I suppose it's possible that that quest isn't actually needed for the trophy, it's just that you need to complete that quest to unlock the Redmaw quest.

Platinum Trophy get! I still have things to do in this game, but I can finally relax a bit. And what a game this was! Really looking forward to the DLC or the sequel. Or both, even better.

[up] I feel.... done with it for now. I love it so much - it was a wonderful balance, with the voice work and characters really sticking with me.

Done all the sidequests, challenges and trophies. DLC I will definitely be day 1 purchasing. I fear a sequel is a ways off and where could they go? I think taking down a Titan in combat with a bow would be a bit much.... or perhaps rideable deathbringers!

[up] Well, we still gotta check what is Sylens planning and who exactly are the Masters who activated HADES, after all. And we still gotta fight a Titan, maybe through Deathbringers or cannon systems. Or just a bunch of delicious Oseram Cannons.

I was so sure that I saw an active Metal Devil/Horus/Titan in the trailer and that we'd fight one, but obviously I was wrong.

My guess would be that if we do fight one in a sequel, it'll be a Colossus Climb thing, and you'll have to go inside it. I'm sure there's a trope for that, but I can't think of it now.

But yeah, any sequels or DLC, shut up and take my money.

My guess for the sequel is using Thunderjaws and Stormbirds as mounts to fight Titans. Or even communing directly with Gaia to get her to create new robots for you.

[up] That would be pretty sweet. As for talking directly to GAIA, wasn't she destroyed when she blew up the GAIA Prime facility?

Yes, but the plan was to rebuild her after stopping HADES. The robotics systems in HEPHESTUS should be sophisticated enough to repair and restart the system. That was the plan she sent out to Aloy after she cloned her.

A sequel or large DLC should probably focus on the effort to rebuild Gaia.

For Petra I didn't see Les yay but more of the boisterous and mischievous aunt type of character.

I get the impression that Aloy really isn't in to anyone and is instead rather focused on getting answers at first but quickly expanding that once she starts to get those answers.

[up] I agree with that last part.

For a sequel or DLC, as well as the obvious stuff about HADES and Sylens, I want to know what happens with Itamen and his return to Meridian, and what happens at Sunfall following Itamen's departure and the deaths of Helis and Bahavas. What will the Shadow Carja do now that their leaders are gone?

[up][up]

It's pretty clear that Aloy is at least a little into Varl, since she says as much at Rost's grave. And personally I thought she was acting a little flirty to Erend after capturing Dervahl.

Sadly for fans of Les Yay Aloy seems to be just into dudes. Which then again, is pretty refreshing, because name a female protagonist of a AAA action game with a defined character (Bioware types disregarded) who is 1) heterosexual and 2) has a romantic relationship with a guy that she initiates? They're pretty rare, since the industry views the coveted Straight Male Gamer demographic as thinking that girls kissing girls is hot but playing as a girl kissing a guy is gay... somehow.

Thats being incredibly dismissive of representation of alternative sexuality in media.

Are you saying that it's just a happy coincidence that most bisexual or gay characters in games just happen to be conveniently attractive women?

Anyways, back to the topic at hand. Jim Sterling did this week's episode on why it's a good thing that Horizon: Zero Dawn is a financial and critical success.

In short: New IP, breaking from the "broody dude with a gun" industry model with a female lead and bright colors, and no microtransactions or season passes or similar nonsense.

On the one hand, I agree with his opinion, on the other, why should I care what the love child of Benny Hill and Jim Cornette has to say?

Well, why should you care what anyone has to say? People watch him because they agree with him and hearing people say things you agree with feels good. That's about it.

Its simple. You listen to what they have to say and either agree or disagree. If you think their presentation is lacking or just sucks you simply find someone who does it better or whose tastes run similar to yours.

If you don't care what any commentator has to say you can just skip it.

In general Horizon Zero Dawn was well worth the purchase and the wait.

Jim Sterling rubs me up the wrong way because he looks like he strangles people for the Gestapo, but I don't fundamentally disagree with any of his points in the video.

Regarding Aloy's sexuality, I don't think I could actually say which way she leans at the moment. Like we said above, she's too focused on other things to give such matters any real consideration. I don't recall what she said about Varl at Rost's grave, but if she was even a little bit into him, I don't think she is now, because of the point I think someone made earlier about the kind of reverence she's held in by the Nora now, which he does too, to a lesser extent and in a different way, but it's still there.

I actually thought they were setting up Teb as a love interest at first, but he's way too meek to be interesting in that regard.

That was kind of a good point though, I think, about female protagonists never being in straight relationships that they initiate. I can't think of any examples anyway. Read into this what you will, if it's even relevant, but two of the story-driven relationship-heavy games I've most enjoyed recently ( Life Is Strange and Gone Home) have featured lesbian relationships, though to be fair in the first one, one relationship is optional, for want of a better word, and the other isn't reciprocated as far as I know, and therefore probably doesn't qualify as a relationship.

Back on topic, I hope, I found it refreshing that there was flirting or hints of relationships in this game (as opposed to, for example, the new Tomb Raider series, where Lara has no romantic interactions at all, as far as I remember), and that Aloy simply wasn't interested.

I honestly only visited Rost's grave after completing the game, so the dialogue must have changed, because I have no recollection of Aloy mentioning Varl in any significant way there. Anyway, considering the options and the focus (not) given to romantic relashionships (which I like), it's hard to pin down who she would prefer (except for Avad, who she certainly does not prefer, lel).

[up] Spoilers? Or are we beyond that now?

In that particular case she rebuffed him so harshly because his pass at her came pretty much immediately after he heard the news of his actual love interest's death. Whether she likes him or not is irrelevant, that would be a terrible way to start a relationship.

I don't think she actually does or ever would like him that way, just for the record :P

[up][up][up] I found that you need to visit without having progressed too much through the main story. My game bugged out and I lost 2-3 bits of update before I could make the scene work again. She talks about liking Varl after the "Revenge of the Nora" quest. Varl is also the only person she offers to show the secrets of the Metal World that she's been discovering.

Also, hilariously, she says Varl has mommy issues. Uh, Aloy, pot meet kettle?
