I mean, that would still work better if the Demon King was on the other side, because you see the fog gate from the start, and there's no reason to think there's anything worth getting in the crab direction, and there mostly isn't.

Cause there's a dude shooting me with a big ass ballista. When hasn't there been loot near a guy shooting me with some big ass something from far away?
Oh really when?there is a reason to think theres stuff in the direction of the crabs. because the crabs are there, and the ballista is making your life hell. anywhere else and you would actually find stuff. this is an outlier where that doesnt happen, but in the process of realising the futility of life, you might be lucky and open the way to the other entrance.
fat chance.
Whenever there's two paths, one being nice and easy and the other being a hell gauntlet you always go through the hell gauntlet because there's loot there.
Loot is everything.
Oh really when?Except there's no loot except for a single chaos gem, and two breakable walls that might not break unless you know where they are and actively try to get the ballista to break them.
And they can only be broken by the ballista. Which. Is kinda unsatisfying considering all the giant crabs and the huge burrowing rock worm.

Horace is also around that area so there's that.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! Not in the crab area he isn't. He's in his own corner.
I return to this thread after a long absence, avoiding DLC spoilers. I was going to skim-read, but not 30 or more pages I'm not.
So, finally beat Friede solo. The temptation to summon was strong, but always when I get summoned for the fight, it's too easy. Glad I stuck with it. I say solo, I had Gael with me, for what it's worth. He almost made it to the end too.
Made a start on the Ringed City now. Made it to my first bonfire (other than the starting one), Earthen Peak Ruins. Can't say I saw that coming.
Ringed City death count: 2. Once falling off the edge when fighting the first group of mobs (typical of me), second to the same type of mob in the indoor area after the weird Lothric knights. Thought I was trapped after that, until I happened to hit the illusory wall and ran up to kill the ,summoner. At least I think that's how these guys work, at the moment.
You're about to run into a VERY frustrating enemy up next that can't be countered by normal means, so I'll give you a hint: it has a weak and vulnerable physical form hidden around the level. The first one will be easy to find, but the others are more challenging to locate.
Is that the weird butterfly-thing? If so, I already encountered one, and found its 'weakness'. I haven't continued beyond the bonfire I mentioned either.
Yep, that's it.
BTW, make sure that you keep talking to the NPC Lapp whenever possible, he'll give out a lot of free stuff almost every time you meet him.
I dunno who that is. The only new NPC I've met is the female pilgrim merchant right at the start.
is the DLC fun you guys? I'm not dropping back into Dark Souls 3 until I get that season pass, so I can do it all in one go.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018First one is a bit on the short side, and has only one noteworthy boss. Second DLC fares much better. Get the season pass, enjoy all in one sitting, and you'll be fine.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. You'll find Lapp sitting next to a campfire shortly after you pass through that chapel room with the two Lothric Knights. Notice how the collapsing pillar knocked out the back wall? Well, you can climb over that pillar to reach the other side, and that's how you'll reach Lapp's position.
I noticed the pillar, but didn't see a way up.
Just walk across it.
Oh really when?Well yeah, but what I meant was I didn't see a way to get to the level it was on. What I didn't realise, and now know because it's incredibly obvious on the way in, is that the pillar knocked down the wall of the chapel. Had I realised that's what happened, I'd have gone back immediately. As it was, I just assumed there'd be a way up somewhere else, and just carried on ahead.
Anyway, I did find Lapp, and after him moving to the Earthen Peak fire, and me dying in the swamp (fuck those butterfly-things), and going back to the Shrine for a bit, he gave a Titanite Slab. Not too shabby.
Fuck Pyromancer Zoey too.
Managed to get rid of the swamp butterfly, thanks to a helpful note. Still got that one hovering outside the swamp though.
Made it to the next boss. Got killed pretty quick. Called it a night.
So I restarted this game. And seeing as how the gameplay is basically Monster Hunter, for this playthrough I've ditched my "safe" method of play of spear and shield.
I'm tapping into my hundred of hours of MH experience. I'm taking up the Great Sword.
(Grabs claymore) Made it to where I left off my last playthrough.
aerial style destroys sulyvahn mind
And then there was silenceI think you might want to clarify what you meant exactly there. Cause I don't know anything about an "aerial style" in Dark Souls 3.
I imagine it either involves turning into a jet and bombing the Russians or having Dark Souls suddenly turn into Kingdom Hearts II.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I like your "Like a Boss" reference!
Pretty sure they meant for players to eventually discover the alternate route that's exposed by the ballista's bolts. Heck, it even has a bonfire right next to it, and allows you to (almost) completely bypass that annoying hallway area. Only reason to discover the other route is for the bonfire making an easy shortcut to the Old Demon King.
