[up][up] From the wiki:

Using a two-handed Lightning Lothric Knight Greatsword +9, It is possible to kill the King of the Storm in just four hits, allowing you to more easily practice the much more difficult Nameless King fight, as well as save much of your estus for it. Landing two fully charged heavy attacks to his head will stagger him and allow you to riposte him. As he recovers from the riposte you will have just enough time to land a running light attack to his head, finishing him off. The best time to land fully charged heavy attacks is during the King of the Storm's grounded fire breath attack and right after the Nameless King's lightning slam attack after dodge rolling toward him. However, due to the Nameless King's high lightning defense the Lothric Knight Greatsword does very poorly against him and it is therefore recommended to have a different weapon to switch out to during the second phase of the fight.

Ah wouldn't have done it that way lol, my weight was already compromised by the dragonslayer armor shield plus I rarely use heavy attacks.Seems like it'd be kind of tough to pull off consistently. Plus it assumes the player actually finds the NK himself harder, which I didn't.

anyway our trope page has this

Lothric can't be stunned out of his revive spell, AND he actually has more health than his brother in his second stage. Lothric is designed and all but guaranteed to cast at least one additional revive on Lorian between the transition cutscene and the end of the fight.

, I didn't even know Lothric could revive his brother again because he went down so quickly after Lorian died. He folds like cheap tissue once Lorian dies.

Lothric actually managed to get off, like, three or four revives before he went down when I fought him but I also had both Sirris and Orbeck with me so yeah.

This DLC boss is just too much

Is it supposed to be the DLC's teamwork boss? I don't really see how this is plausible solo. It's just demanding too much and this game's absolute craptastic camera does not help matters any.

So far this DLC is my least favorite of the ones I played. And no not just because of the boss, but because of annoying stage gimmicks

Ugh finally beat him. Fire bosses are the worst. The camera is your worst enemy in this battle. Hopefully I can do something about these stupid angels now lol.

Ooooh the ringed city proper is beautiful! I honestly don't know why that first area is even there. Seems like the perfect candidate for a Scrappy Level,

So, here's what I gathered: The Ringed City is actually the Deep. The locusts are called White Preachers, and they seem to try and sell the Abyss as something holy and wholesome. I reckon Aldrich bought their stories, and that's how the Cathedral of the Deep came to be.

[up] The main game describes the Deep as a holy place that got corrupted by the Abyss

The Ringed City is the fancy prison Gwyn "gifted" the Pigmyes, put at the literal end of the world and with a quadruple whammy of the Church, his youngest daughter, an archdragon and a seal of fire to keep it locked down because he was scared shitless of the Dark

So scared of the Dark was Gwyn that he turned himself into a human nightlight.

King of the Storms ain't SO bad

camera is definitely annoying but not locking on helps

i dont see how you could have trouble with the fire breath though, that's not only his easiest attack but also the most punishable

my brother's been playing this game and considering how hard he dropped dark souls 1 i'm surprised he's gotten so far

he managed toget up to yhorn and i'm curious to see if he'll get past Pope Beefgate

he DID manage to beat bloodborne so who knows

And then there was silence

[up]Not his fire breath on the ground(that one is basically free hits), the one where he flies out of reach and blasts the floor. It's insanely hard to avoid and unlike Sihn running beneath him doesn't work and I can't seem to run away from it quick enough either. Depending on where you are when he does it it can easily be an instant kill. And yeah I didn't lock on except when he was flying through the air, that's actually pretty useful for avoiding his swoop and lightning spears.

While the first two DLC bosses IMO were really screwy and not designed too well, the final(or who I assume to be final) boss is among the hypest in the game. Great battleground, awesome moveset, and actually pretty fun unlike the other two I fought which were more frustrating than anything. Though storywise...idk what's really going on with this DLC but that's my fault for not doing Ao A.

Gael is badass though.Took me only two tries, while the previous "boss" took me like 8 :/

Yet despite it the Pygmies weren't even bad people, and while they harnessed the abyss they certainly weren't using it to plunge the world into mayhem despite having greater Dark Souls than humanity. The Ringed Knights even fought alongside the Gods against the Dragons, and they built a statue of Gwyn crowning one of their royalty.

Their descendants on the other hand... but when the Gods, tortured, brainwashed them with insane fear, manipulated, enslaved, etc. humanity turning out the way it did seemed like inevitable.

Also the White Preachers do want to convert others, they're crazy from hunger so they try to eat the converts instead.

[up] I'm starting to get the feeling everything regarding the Abyss ended as bad as it did because the gods made modern humans demonize the Dark so much that they could not longer control it or their own humanity as well as they should have. Kaathe should have really considered that

Not to mention the hints that the Darksign/Undead Curse has been Gwyn's fault the whole time

[up],[up][up] Yeah, it definitely feels that way to me. I guess Aldia did have the right of it somewhat; that all of the worlds problems come from Gwyn's fear.

Let's not forget that fire never solves anything. If Dark Souls III's base game is to be followed, overusing the flame will force the world into an even worse case than it is.

Which brings us to Dark Souls II, was Aldia's idea of a third option truly the worth? Dark gives us the abyss while fire gives us an apocalypse. What about neither?

The Painter has it right - those who do not know flame cannot paint a world, and those who are obsessed with it must not. The Flame is only bad if you try to put it everywhere, and the Dark used to be 'cold and gentle', and a good home, before filth like Kaathe and the Hollows settled in.

It's been fun.

Digging up Manus and screwing with him up also didn't help since his soul showed how he had gentle humanity within him.

Kaathe and some dumb humans messing everything up.

the ringed city is probably one of the most unintuitive localles in the series

i have no fucking clue where anything is

ive run into the halflight location, but i cant find my way down to the dragon, and i have no idea where gael is. i cant think of anywhere i havent checked yet. im at a loss.

whelp, found the dragon.

yknow, i dont think most dragons in the series are good bossfights. quite the opposite. so i wasnt really looking forward to this fight, and right from the start it gave me horrid flashbacks of dark souls 2's sunken king's dragon. well...

its about as trash as every other dragon boss in the series yeah. tanky as all shit too.

and last time i tried shira died on entrance to the boss arena

apparantly she's not immune to massive drops like the player is whenever its convenient.

I understand that as a dragon he should probably have a bunch of health, but I still think the bastard has a little too much.

It makes the fight more tedious than fun or difficult.

He could lose 1000 HP and a few points of defense and still be a longer fight than everything else in the game.

ive been told its recommended to bring in a weapon with an attack rating of 500 for the fight.

maxed chaos blade with ideal stats i think just barely reaches that.

my prefered brigand twin daggers dont even come close (although i respecced out of those ages ago because they really werent hacking it for the ringed city)

im just going to put this guy on the shitlist and ignore him, covenent be damned.

I heard the dragon boss is trash. Haven't attempted him yet myself.

But are we seriously dissing Sihn? That was one of the few dragons Souls did right. Sihn was a legitimately good battle and probably one of the most enjoyable fights in the series, especially for a dragon which like you mentioned, are usually designed poorly. Not to mention he was easier than Elana or the 3 amigos.

Unless you meant Ancient Dragon.

I'll be honest if it weren't for the final guy Ringed City would be a dud. While it's visually spectacular the level design only really shines towards around the last segment, with unfun gimmicks spoiling the journey to that point and the other bosses being more miss than hit. I suppose the first boss is arguable but most can agree its health pool is a bit much and its fire effects are too overdone to where you can't even see your lifebar at times.

I had trouble with Sihn, but compared to Elana (who actually made me quit DS 2 for months; I didn't finish the Crown DLC until after 3, and I may not actually have finished Frozen Crown), he was a breeze. The Fume Knight may have taken me literally twelve hours to defeat, but at least he felt doable.

It's been fun.

Elana simply demanded too much from the player. Summoning the big V is bad enough, but the fact she can do it multiple times and alongside skeletons too? It was hard to where it felt unfair. One of those bosses I don't hold anything against for summing because JEEZ.

Really the only bad thing about Sihn is how bad the lock-on is for him.

RedSavant Since: Jan, 2001
#3599: Mar 29th 2017 at 4:21:43 PM

Yeah, maybe it would have been doable if it was a 50% health trigger or something, but even then he's really hard to deal with.

It's been fun.
Tarsen Since: Dec, 2009
#3600: Mar 30th 2017 at 1:46:45 AM

whelp.

took him down to about 30% health solo

took 15 minutes, died because theres just no outrunning some of his attacks, turning it into a battle of attrition— jee, i wonder who would win there.

going for help isnt particularly advisable. he becomes much less predictable when he has 2 targets to get aggro;d by, and the more uppity he gets the harder it is to bop him on the head, which does double damage (otherwise expect to be there all fucking day), to say nothing about the buff to his health he'd get.

lock on is worthless. dont even bother. fire attacks are going to kill you 90% of the time, the other 10% is going to be either his instant kill laser beam or his retardedly powerful tailswipe. dont expect to be able to see him telegraph half these attacks when you're busy doing damage to him, because you wont.

oh also, if you enjoy cross-country sprinting oh boy this is the fight for you
