''Dungeon Exploring. It's not a job for the faint of heart. Across this wild world of Arcadia, dungeons can form from anywhere, from anything. Some have secrets, some have treasures, and some are nothing more then holes of misery, pain, and grief, with nothing for you to show for your efforts.

But hey, you signed up for this. Whether your on some kind of crusade, epic quest, or just looking for glory, the Mage Guild takes all kinds of all flavors. With the only thing binding you together being a lust for power, a hunger for money, and...maybe...even...friendship?

Nah, friendship isn't magic.''

Alright, my friends, this is a tongue-and-cheek, play-by-post Dungeon Crawler. You are a Mage in the magical land of Arcadia, where magic is both an easy convenience or a weapon of choice. But what separates this from the rest is it's unique magic system-which probably isn't that unique.

All characters are Mages, and thus, use some form of magic. But what you do is completely up to you, from the abilities your characters use to the execution of them. Just about anything can be made into a type of magic, from traditional types of Mages such as Cryomancy, to more ridiculous and silly methods like Pizza Summoning.

There's no sense of plot except for "make it to the end of every dungeon without dying". And I bold dying because I, your host, will try to kill you at every turn. If you die, you either make a new character for the next campaign or...do...something else. I don't know why you would though..

  • Name:

  • Age:

  • Gender:

  • Race: (Arcadia is a vast world, so anything is available as long as you can give some kind of description of it.)

  • Appearance: (Descriptions are nice, so are pictures)

  • Magic: (What is it called, what does it do, and how does it work? Any weaknesses to this magic?)

  • Equipment: (Anything you'd normally bring into a dungeon?)

  • Personality:

  • Bio: (Can be as detailed or as short as you want. Arcadia is a vast world, so making up continents, cities, and villages are alright. But if you'd rather keep it vague or skip this all together, then go ahead. It's just flavor text here.)

  • Other: (Anything else that is needed to be known? Any familiars? Something that wasn't written down, but should be noted?)

Species List

  • Human
    • Vanilla Race. Nothing special about Humans is needed, though some basic biology would be nice.

  • Great Cat (Submitted by Elyzian)
    • Hailing from the distant continent of Syontin, great cats possess physical and magical prowess that makes them fierce combatants. Great cats are similar in structure to other families of large cats such as lions or tigers. They far larger than their primitive cousins; the largest of them stands head to chest with the average human. They have relatively short fur that can have a wide range of patterns like stripes, dots, or more exotic shapes. Black, grey, brown, and silver are common coat colors. When a great cat's magical reserves are full, their eyes are wreathed in purple and red flame. This fire fades as their reserves are used. Great cats live in crystalline cities of rising spires and vast domes that cluster together within the dense jungles of their native lands. The center of any great cat community is a mystical beacon of purple and red flames called Alonati's Pyre. Alonati's Pyre is named for the great cats' patron goddess and is where great cats go to replenish their magical reserves. Great cats spend much of their time in their cities perfecting their magic, discussing intricate political webs, or simply relaxing as they ponder the world. Outside their cities they are usually found hunting food for their community, battling rival communities, or beating back the hostile wildlife that dwells in the Syontin jungles.

  • Dracona (Submitted by Ohphelia)
    • A humanoid race native to the caves at the feet of the Mountains of Noverist, where it is not as cold as it is farther up. They have prominent, pointed ears, forked tongues and eyes with slit pupils. They tend to be slightly shorter than the average human, usually about five feet at adulthood. They also have an expanded lifespan of about 25 years compared to humans, and age slower as a result, reaching adulthood around the age of 21. They are widely known for their greed, excellent night vision, and amazing sense of smell, and many have a predisposition to fire magic, though this is not always the case. They are often stereotyped as greedy and overly obsessed with the ownership of gems, semi-precious crystals, precious metals, and related things, often called a hoard, though this is mostly because many dracona use these materials to channel magical energy and recharge their magic. Their name would imply a relation to dragons, but they are thought to be more closely related to wyverns or snakes.

Known Locations

  • Mountains of Noverist (Submitted by David2716)
    • Exist in the far northern region of Arcadia. Human tribes have been known to live here with various wildlife, such as deer, roaming.

  • Syontin (Submitted by Elyzian)
    • A far and relatively unknown continent. The Goddess of Vibrant Flames, Alonati, is worshiped here.

  • Lindburg (Submitted by Sharur)
    • Harbor City. The University of Arvyn is located here.

  • Mountains of Noverist (Submitted by Ohphelia)
    • A series of mountains in the south.

  • Name: Frostbite

  • Age: 19

  • Gender: Male

  • Race: Human

  • Appearance: Lean, fit and 5'9'' tall and has tanned skin.Frostbite has shaggy black hair past his ears and always (annoyingly) in his eyes. He has one red eye and one icy blue. He wears a loose black vest over a bare chest, and long loose pants. He wears sandals, and has a tattoo of flames on his left forearm and a tattoo depicting a blizzard on his right forearm.

  • Magic: Frostbite is a Cryo-pyromancer. He was born with the innate ability to form sub zero flames from thin air. These flames spread like fire and freeze like ice, causing icy burns. The damage of his attacks can be catastrophic and hard to control. After years of practice he has honed the ability to separate the fire from the ice, and can now at will use one or the other, or his magic in its combined form. The energy he uses to produce his magic is high and so he must eat a lot more often than a typical 19 year old. He is weak to attacks from psychic abilities because of the level of concentration his magic takes to control.

  • Equipment: Frostbite carries with him a satchel that can hold food and water for a few days, a notebook and pencil, and a bed roll.

  • Personality: Frostbite does not readily trust others. He is used to being on his own and so lives thus. Getting on his good side is not hard, but until then he will be a little standoffish. Frostbite enjoys using his magic for any kind of confrontation, and relies heavily on his magic ability.

  • Bio: Lagi is from a tribe that lives in the Mountains of Noverist, in the far northern region of Arcadia. Living in cold harsh temperatures is something he has been subjected to since birth. The elders of his tribe taught the practice of meditation to control ones body temperature and it was throught this meditation that Lagi discovered his magic. While raising his body tempurature and then lowering it again he accidentaly produced a freezing blue flame that danced on the snow in front of him. He performed this very thing in front of the elders and they renamed him Frostbite, as when one of the elders touched the flame it immediately rendered the flesh of his finger black, cold, and lifeless. The elders and the rest of the tribe were afraid of what Frostbite could do, and told him he mustn't use this magic as it was dangerous and unnatural. Frostbite didn't pay any heed to their warnings and was finally banished from his people at the age of 13. He traveled down the mountains on his own and wandered the landscape, practicing his ability while he traveled. He learned to throw ice spikes to kill deer, and then learned how to use fire to cook them. He is a lone wolf, in a big world. As the years went by his thirst for bigger adventure and the thrill of the hunt has lead him to start dungeon crawling.

  • Name: Pastoval.
  • Age: 43.
  • Gender: Male.
  • Race: Great Cat.
    • Racial Description: Hailing from the distant continent of Syontin, great cats possess physical and magical prowess that makes them fierce combatants.
  • Appearance: Pastoval stands about gut level on the average human. His fur is dull grey with black stripes. His stripes branch off of a single stripe that travels the length of his spine. His eyes are bright silver and are often wreathed in the magical flames of Alonati's Pyre. Several grim trophies from past battles mark Pastoval's body: his left ear is torn and shredded, he is missing his bottom left fang, a jagged scar runs along his right side, and his tail is crooked and bent among other examples. Despite this, a clear spark of mirth and curiosity can be seen within his eyes.
  • Magic: The magic of the great cats was granted to them by the goddess Alonati, She of the Vibrant Flames. To use this magic great cats must stay in reach of a Alonati's Pyre until their magical reserves have been replenished. Due to constructing a Pyre being an incredibly delicate and labor intensive task, great cats typically carry a few temporary replacements when they travel far from an accessible Pyre. Great cats use their magic as an extension of their bodies. It often manifests as burning talons of flame wrapped around their claws, flaming whips lashed from their tails, and similar enhancements. The greatest of these magical manipulations is the great cat's roar. Through their roar a great cat can work their will on the magic for a variety of effects. These effects can range anywhere from a massive, swirling inferno to a gentle soothing warmth. One of the more practical uses of this magic is the method of surrounding a small object with numerous points of magical flame. When this is done, a great cat can move and manipulate the object with almost as much dexterity as a human hand. while the powers of this magic are great, they are also finite. If a great cat is not careful they may use the entirety of their reserves and find that the battle is far from over. While Pastoval has dabbled in other uses for his magic, his main area of expertise is in combat.
  • Equipment: Pastoval wears a large pouch that is buckled on to the left side of his torso. This pouch is full of various items that a traveling great cat would useful such as: dried meat, a waterskin, coins of varying value, a vague map of Arcadia, a journal with writing implements, a bedroll, and a few lanterns of vibrant flame.
  • Personality: In combat Pastoval is relentless. He pursues his foes with such dogged determination that he often doesn't notice his wounds until after the dust has settled. Outside of combat Pastoval is a kind and mirthful individual with a healthy desire for adventure. He regards any person who is willing to stand with him in battle with great respect. However he can act harshly if he feels betrayed, and he will refuse to associate with the offending person no matter how dire the circumstances.
  • Bio: From the moment he cast his first roar of flame, Pastoval's life has revolved around bloodshed. His early life was a blur of brutal training. He and other young great cats were put through rigorous physical challenges and served as grunts in the city military. Upon becoming a full soldier, Pastoval was thrust head long into a series of bloody power struggles following the death of a great cat monarch. For years he fought for his home. He met many comrades during these years and saw most of them die. As the wars came to a close, Pastoval found himself plagued with a great longing. After spending so long at war, he now desired to see more of what the wide world had to offer. So he prepared a few necessities and left Syontin in search of thrills and adventure.
  • Other: Pastoval is plagued with vivid night terrors that make it difficult for him to sleep.

Despite some...personal gripes, I see not much wrong with Pastoval. But I do have some questions. Like, if he needs to be near this Alonati's Pyre to use replenish his magic, then what artifact does he carry around to replenish it? I don't see anything that has this effect and if it is there, then can you tell me what it is? Cause if he runs out of magic, that just makes him a big cat when fighting-which may not be so bad unless it's a dire situation.

[up]The lanterns of vibrant flame act as short boosts to Pastoval's magical reserves. They're basically miniature Alonati's Pyres. He can use them for a quick boost in combat, or he can leave them around him at night to fully replenish him while he sleeps. If there are any other ways you feel I could improve him feel free to let me know.

  • Name: Larius (& Mr. Muffins)

  • Age: 23 (22)

  • Gender: Male (Male)

  • Race: Human (Undead Cat)

  • Appearance: Larius (Mr. Muffins)

  • Magic: Larius is a Necromancer. He can raise the dead in various forms to aid him in his endeavors. In the beginning he will only be able to raise and control few, weak undead who are basically run-off-the-mill zombies (non-infectious). Over the course of the RP however he will learn how to raise other kinds of undead such as skeletons, ghosts and vampires. Furthermore his control over the undead should improve. His powers also allow for him to mend wounds of the flesh, healing his comrades and himself. He is however unable to resurect a dead being back to true life or a killed-again undead back to undeath. On the offensive side his powers are limited to weak energy drain and disease magic. His necromantic abilities also allow for him and his minions to be healed by unholy energy instead of being harmed by it.

    • Magic Weaknesses: Children, animals, those psychically gifted and those of strong religious affiliation can sense that there is something "wrong" about Larius. Animals thus tend to either be afraid of or act aggressively towards the Necromancer. Additionally both he and his minions are quite vulnerable to holy magic, being harmed by it whether it was cast with the intention to harm or to heal. They also have trouble entering religious places such a shrines and churches. While the weakest undeads turn to dust when crossing the doorstep, stronger undead start to feel progressively weaker until they re-die. Larius and the strongest undead simply feel repulsed at first, then get worse from dizzyness to nausea and vomiting until eventually passing out. They do however not die.

  • Equipment: This staff and a satchel.

  • Personality: Larius is generally kind, shy and soft-spoken, preferring to avoid combat if possible. This is also reflected in his fighting style, sending his minions to fight while staying in the back, healing them himself. After the events of his past, he has also developed a deep dislike for prejudice of any kind, trying to keep an open mind. Larius tends to be intrigued by magic items, hoping to find and collect interesting ones on his adventures. Interesting in this case meaning "intriguing", but not neccessarily powerful or valuable.

  • Bio: Back when he was quite young, Larius' pet cat Mr. Muffins died. Deeply saddened by this loss, the young boy awakened to his magical abilities, raising the feline from the dead. His parents initially were shocked to see their son capable of such vile arts, but warmed up to it over time. The other inhabitants of the small village they were living in however did not. Only begrudgingly did they leave the boy be. Then, when a series of unfortunate events completely unrelated to Larius' necromancy struck the village, the people were quick to make Larius out as a scapegoat, storming his house and killing his family. Larius himself and Mr. Muffins were able to escape, but certainly wouldn't survive long on their own. Luckily however they were taken in by a traveling circus, whose members knew what it was like to be laughed at for being different. As luck would have it there even was another necromancer among them, who offered to teach Larius. Larius gladly accepted, honing his skills. When he grew of age, he left the circus, deciding to travel the world by himself in order to show the world that necromancy was nothing to be feared (and maybe to find some treasure too).

  • Other: His familiar is Mr. Muffins, the undead cat.
