How's the API coming?

Hello! I'm working on a project related to the Periodic Table of Storytelling I created a while back. The project needs a way for people to look up tropes by name. I'm looking into a way to make use of the DBTropes database, but it's tricky, and my life would be enhanced if I could make use of the API that was promised in the Kickstarter.

I'm trying to decide whether I should wait on the publication of the API or just dive in to figuring out DBTropes. What sort of time frame are we looking at, as a ballpark estimate?

Hi guys, good job with the new website, as far as it goes it is fine for me. Are there any news on the API front? I backed the revitalization project with particular expectations on this account. Is the API stil in the roadmap, or has it been dropped out? If any help is needed I would be happy to contribute as far as my programming experience can be useful

[up][up] It's still something we have planned. The main issue is the way the database is set up. Every page is one giant text entry, so an API would not be of much use at this point. We have a senior database engineer coming on board next week to start work on TV Tropes 2.0. As he develops a more object oriented database the API will flow naturally.

Cool news! Thanks for the update and the clarification. I'll look forward to TV Tropes 2.0, then.

I'd suggest moving this to the general TV Tropes 2.0 topic, as the Tech Wishlist forum is deprecated and will soon be mothballed.

As it stands, we have not begun any development work on that project and it is unclear if/when that will begin.
