Opening, but I don't think these suggestions work; they are too ambiguous in terms of gender.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanRobin can work.
I'm not sure the gender difference will be visible at wiki size. The female one doesn't look very female to me.
Same for me. The only way you can tell one's a boy and the other's a girl is the face and hair, and I doubt it'll be visible at wiki size. The concept for the pic works, it's just Robin that doesn't
Maybe the Wii Fit trainers would be better; since they're more stylised, it could be easier to differentiate the genders. They just need a good picture
The only obvious difference at wiki size between male and female Robin is the hair length. The Wii trainers or one of the Mii's would be a more striking visual example.
For reference, here's what the two Robins look like at two wiki sizes:
I'll try to get good pictures of the other characters (Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Mii) later.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Sorry for double post, but I have albums with pictures of the Wii Fit Trainers and the Villagers. Doing this for the Miis is a little more problematic (making nondescript Miis of the same size, setting them up, etc.)
I like the 2nd trainers◊ and the 8th Villagers◊ myself.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."I can easily tell from the facial features and hairstyles that those two characters are female and male, respectively, at least in the larger pic...the smaller obscures things a little too much for my liking.
How is that illustrative and not just an example above the example line?

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The fact that both are using the exact same ability and wearing the exact same clothing?
Yeah, I think the fact that they're using the exact same abilities makes it reasonably clear that the differences are largely aesthetic. For what it's worth, I like the villager pictures most.
Reaction Image Repository@8 any of those options are much better than the Robin image (since the girl looks more like a guy with long hair to me, given the lack of defining body shape). I lean more towards the trainer, though.
I like Villagers slightly more than Trainers and either of those WAY more than Robins. No strong opinion on which exact picture to use
I agree, the image makes it look fairly purely-aesthetic. Dunno how you could one-up that, really.
Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest. — Mark TwainCrowner?
Is there a stats screen we could add to that image? That would get the point across better. Just sharing the same moves I don't think is enough.
Smash doesn't have stats screens; and even if it had, it wouldn't help much. These three characters can be either male or female, and either version is selected from the same character slot.
Yes, that would probably be best. We could use some trimming down on our options.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."Crowner's hooked; did I miss anything?
Here are the Villagers and Trainers at wiki size for reference.
Anyone else think the trainers could use a stage with a darker background?
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."On the Wii fit trainers, got something else that doesn't look like a workout video? It doesn't look like a fighting game there, it looks like a Wii Fit game and that is not an example of the trope.
I'll try and set up a picture with them hitting other characters. Maybe the Robins or Villagers for good measure.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."I'm not a fan of the lead, but it's pretty sharply up there.
Why is that a problem? The trope is not limited to fighting games.
It's a problem because showing them merely doing the same pose tells me exactly nothing.
Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
This trope is currently picture-less. The latest Super Smash Bros. has 3 characters with gender selection who follow this trope, so I figured some screenshots would be easy to get.
Here's an album with several pictures of the male and female version of Robin doing the same attacks. I'm partial to the third one◊ myself.
I would do something like this for the other 2 characters, but one is a "kid" that uses an assortment of everyday tools, and the other's a yoga instructor. Robin's magic is easier to get pictures of obvious attacks with.
