Yeah, I'm trying to write my character as largely having gotten over her angst. Then again, writing Troubled Teen type characters sort of suits this thang.

Oh, will we be starting the rp before or after we get our powers?

Is there a player limit on this? Also, is it just the powers, or could they get secondary things like agility or advanced martial-arts knowledge?

This is my character sheet, @Grate Escape. Please let me know what you think.

  • Name: David Miller

  • Gender: Male

  • Age: 15

  • Appearance: David's height is close to 5'9'', he has black hair and blue eyes. Truth to be told, David could be considered as a nondescript, that is, besides his powers, David could very well be a generic guy next door.

  • Personality: David is a very easy going kind of guy, if somewhat idealistic. He likes to have fun and enjoy life to its fullest. However, there are times when David feels his life has a greater purpose. He also despises being underestimated by other people. Aside from that, David likes to think of himself as a very reflective person who thinks things through.

  • Powers: David has the same power as Quicksilver, more specifically, his Ultimate Marvel version. David has the gift of superhuman speed. Thanks to this, David is capable of moving and thinking at speeds far greater than any ordinary person. He is also capable of resisting the effects of his powers, such as friction, reduced oxygen, and the kinetic impacts.

  • Backstory: David is the eldest and only male child of his parents. David has two sisters, twins of 10, whom he is very protective of. His parents are quite average, his mom is an elementary school teacher and his dad is an office clerk. David's life growing up was quite normal. Indeed, he was just a normal kid, who used to dream about being important. All things said, though, David views his powers as an opportunity to finally leave his mark on the world.

To RPG Legend: just organize your sheet again so as to not have these spaces and you're accepted.

To whizzerd: marvelous sheet! You are accepted.

To Serendipital: I'm accepting Superman- of course you can bring in Toad!

To K Kutwar: yes, you get advanced aging, and if you get your powers from an android you turn into an android.

To Rvdz: still plenty of room my friend.

To Truth Hurts: at the moment, no limit. Also, yes, they get martial arts knowledge.

To zsax: good sheet! Consider yourself 'accepted.

Since we now have a considerable number of players, I have made a discussion thread! You can go to it by clicking here. I have given the role play a name: Dawn of a New Age! Very theatrical, yes, but I feel it fits with how the world will be changed by these teens. Take this chance to plot amongst yourselves previously existing relationships between your characters, seeing as they will be studying in the same high school.

  • Name: Travis Murray
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: A bit on the short side, Travis stands at near 5'1", though due to a slight slouch he appears to be a few inches shorter. He has a thick head of shaggy brown hair, typically uncombed and slightly curled. A pair of small, half-rimmed glasses frame his deep brown eyes, laying on hi small nose and full face. He is just a bit chubby, but not enough to be called fat. Tends to wears a loose red zippered-hoodie over his clothes, which almost always are a tee-shirt and cargo shorts/jeans.
  • Personality: Travis is timid by nature. Not interested (or skilled) at conversation, he keeps to himself and mostly comes off as moody. He avoids conflict whenever he can, and thus has developed a passive mood, merely going along to whoever's flow he's stuck in. There are times when he asserts himself, of course; with friends he can be lively if he's in the mood, and when someone really begins to get on his nerves, he isn't all that afraid of lashing out. Though that rarely happens, either way.
  • Powers: Travis has, somewhat ironically, obtained the powers of Black Canary. The ultrasonic scream is the main power he has, with abilities ranging from mere disorientation and popped eardrums to full on flight and the ability to melt bones. However, this ability is severely hampered on account of his puberty; his growing vocal cords are not strong enough to handle the full capabilities, and the voice-cracks make it happen without him wanting to. There are also several less powerful abilities, such as Acrobatics, skill in driving, and advanced martial arts from Aikido to Krav Maga to Dragon Style Kung Fu (though the two most used and well known are Judo and Boxing).
  • Backstory: As a kid, Travis wasn't very close to his biological father. At the age of two his mom had left him since he was irresponsible while she was at work and did not take care of Travis much during the day. He and her lived on their own for the next five or so years until she met his soon-to-be stepdad. It was around that time that young Travis became oddly fascinated with the news. The actually stories made little sense to him, but he had always liked the reporters who stood out in sun, rain, sleet, snow, and wind to give the viewers the in-depth scoop. He started to collect household objects and set them up outside, pretending that he was the reporter on TV, telling the tragic tale of Teddy's lost left-eye. It was soon after then that he had grown shy. His new step-dad, who was a good guy don't get him wrong, had too short of a temper and would often take it out by screaming his lungs off to nobody in particular. Often times he yelled at Travis for little things, making him feel like he did everything wrong and began to doubt himself. He grew to be self-loathing and bitter, though was too afraid to let any of it show, and developed the nasty habit of bottling feelings up. High-school was the worst for him, with the late blooming and the increasingly terrible grades brought on by his self doubt. The only good thing was newspaper club; it gave him a chance to be a different type of journalist, and now he's never seen without his trusty camera and a notepad or two.

Know when this'll start at all? And like, at what point in time are we starting, from the point in which the teens got their powers?

  • Name: Michal Harvins
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Michal is very short at 4 feet and 3 inches; his black hair messy and unkempt, full of dried skin from a lack of washing. He's not fat, nor is he skinny; he's in-between with a bit of flab on his arms and legs, enough to slightly wiggle when he runs. A small nose and tiny lips. Boring brown eyes that match his skin color, and some wide nerdy glasses to boot.
  • Personality: Michal is aimless, seeing life as a joke that some god's playing on him. Preferring to laze about and think rather than take action; Michal is an avid daydreamer as a result, thinking about possible outcomes to situations even before they come up. Finding it hard to care about anything other than himself, Michal has trouble feeling empathy for his fellow humans, to a fault, most of the time.
  • Powers: Michals powers are from the Blue Beetle; or more specifically the Jaime Reyes version. He doesn't have "Powers" exactly; he has a sentient, homicidal weapon grafted onto his spine that has the express purpose of being a super weapon.
    • The scarab approaches a Do-Anything Robot, capable of making pretty much any weapon the user can think of. The most powerfull ones capable of threatening entire cities.
    • The armor the scarab makes is pretty much indestructible, being extremely reactive in nature.
    • The intelligence inside the scarab can initiate a lot of things, like phasing its user massive distances, and the ability to make normal clothes from particles in the air. It also lets him fly.
  • Backstory: Michal has been pretty laid back his entire life, caring little about school or anything that society demands he do. He's been in a love-hate relationship with his parents for most of his teen years; they want the best for him, but he doesn't really care enough about his future to try, resulting in conflict. His family is rather well off, leaving him wanting for nothing other than alone time. His life has been largely uneventful, nothing exciting happening to him, and his apathy making him largely unimportant in his local community. The hardest thing that Michal ever had to deal with was the first time he ever saw something die; his dog, specifically. It was the only time he cried as a teen.

  • Name: Amy Bang (Korean, pronounced with a short a)
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Amy's short, about 5'4", and has prominent muscles on her arms from weightlifting. Contrasting with her broad shoulders and "hard" body is her round face. She has thick eyebrows and brown eyes. Ever since gaining her superpowers, her skin has gained a sickly green tint from the thin lair of adherent mucus resin that secretes from it. It also gives off an unpleasant smell that she masks with perfume and liberal scrubbing in the shower, but removing the layer of mucus causes irritation, so it's not the best solution. She also now has an unusually flexible spine, muscular legs, and pointed ears. She tends to wear a fair amount of make up, and her wardrobe mainly consists of dresses.
  • Personality: Amy's very energetic, pig-headed, and self-confident. With little exception, she believes she's right and dismisses others' opinions. Despite this stance, she's not intentionally antagonistic - she does try to make friends and help others, even if she can be off-putting. She's honest and has a hard time keeping that honesty from others, possessing absolutely no tact. She's very adventurous, often sneaking into haunted houses, but she always needs a plan, no matter the situation. If things stray from it, she feels lost and panicked, her usual energy translated into anxious energy instead - hence her frazzled state upon receiving her powers. Her interest in the occult has led to a morbid sense of humor and a fascination with unsettling topics.
  • Powers: Amy's powers are the Toad's - she has superhuman jumping/super strong kicking and agility, and she has a long prehensile tongue. She can spit a caustic phlegmatic substance, and her pores secrete a mucus resin that can adhere to any surface (wall climbing) and has a paralytic effect - normal skin-on-skin contact will only produce some tingling, however. She can also store enough air in her cheeks that, when expelled, can push someone off their feet.
  • Backstory: Amy's father is Korean and her mother American, and she has lived in America her whole life. She had a typical childhood - she was raised in the suburbs, went to school, and encountered a petty bully or two. She inherited her love of the occult from her father, who is a historian and horror movie fanatic. After hitting high school, she resolved to make a Paranormal Investigation/Maybe Watch Movies? Club, and is currently trying to get it approved.

I thought it would be cool to see how a teenage girl responds to Toad's powers, and how others respond to her. Grossness is much more acceptable in teenage boys, after all.

  • Name: Benedict Tudor
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: He doesn't have a teddy though. And while he enjoys wearing suits, his usual wear is less formal.
  • Personality: Almost supernaturally calm, Benedict hides a sharp mind beneath an empty smile. His kindnesses are never truly genuine, as they are but parts of his incredibly convoluted and at times incomprehensible schemes. He is highly manipulative, and very good at making others do what he wants. Despite his ulterior motives, his true ultimate goal is only to entertain himself, as his powers have enlightened him to particular secrets of life. He is very secretive about his second ability, insisting that he only has the one power.
  • Powers:
    • Ben has found himself in possession of a spiffy new Healing Factor, which not only heals him from even missing limbs or lost organs given enough time, but has improved his physical capabilities to just beyond the normal human limit, while also greatly increasing his reaction time and granting him high resistance against most poisons and toxins. His second and true power, however, is the other ability of the man he got his powers from, Deadpool. Benedict is aware of the fourth wall and can see beyond it, granting him access to knowledge he wouldn't otherwise have which makes it very easy for him to twist things to his advantage. He also has two voices, one deranged and one more serious, that speak to him in his head, offering (usually bad) advice.
  • Backstory: The son of a businessman of English descent, and an only child of a wealthy family. Benedict nonetheless went to public school, as he didn't feel right being privately tutored, and wanted to help the less fortunate. He studied hard, and wanted to change the world for the better, so as to 'earn' his father's fortune. But in sixth grade he found himself extorted time and again by a bully, and grew bitter over it. Eventually he devised a clever plan, intentionally provoking his tormentor until the older boy broke his arm, then telling a faculty member, and the bully got expelled. From then on, he realized how useful it truly was to manipulate others.

Wouldn't you also become living cancer? Our characters would also inherit the downsides, so... Pretty boy ain't gonna be pretty for long.

By the way, could I have the powers of Madison Jeffries, Marvel mutant?

[up]The cancer is not part of Deadpool's powerset. It just happens to be the reason he got a Wolverine Plot Armor transplant. I would think you only get the downside if it comes packaged as part of one of your powers.

Name: Timothy Vincent Carillo

Gender: Male

Age: 16 just the other week.

Appearance: Standing at 5'8 and weighing almost 150 lbs, Tim is a wispy and pale-skinned teenager with short straight dark hair, a shy smile and bright blue eyes. Tim dresses neatly though a lot of his clothes are second-hand (but well-kept). These are usually various t-shirts with old monster movie prints, long-sleeved button-down shirts and jeans (cargo shorts if it's hot). Tim prefers blue canvas sneakers.

Personality: Outwardly known as "the dude who lives in the old theater", Tim is deeply polite to everyone he meets and respectful to authority. Quietly studious, passionate about his hobbies, and loyal to whomever takes the time to say something nice to him, there's simply no way to go about this. He's a nerd and all that it implies, minus the bad hygiene.

Powers: Tim has the complete powers of the Blazing Skull. At will, he can turn his skin invisible, giving him the appearance of a blazing humanoid skeleton. He has also inherited the Skull's enhanced strength, fire immunity and regenerative healing factor (though not the pain tolerance), as well as his pyrokinesis.

  • Other Skills - Given his dreams of becoming a director, Tim has fairly advanced knowledge of how one makes a movie, not to mention expertise of using a video camera and a movie projector. Tim's the go-to guy in science class for having a strong stomach, handling things like chemicals and frog intestines like he was born to it.

  • He's also conversant and literate in Spanish and is capable of reading the katakana alphabet. Lastly, he's got a fair amount of stamina and endurance, having almost made the track team a few times and being the school's mascot. He's also pretty good with a yoyo.

Backstory: Growing up in the care of his Aunt Vonnie, Timothy "Tim" Carillo was a face in the public school crowd. An active member of the Cinema Club, a game group he visits every other week and even a part-time job working at his aunt's old movie theatre. Maybe a handful of people he could call 'friend'. Essentially a lot of the hallmarks of what would be a mover-and-shaker in the future, complete with a few run-ins with a bully or two throughout his childhood.

EDIT: This part has been redacted given that the RP starts before we receive our powers.

To Lt.Bbgob: I should have made this more clear, but all the characters are in the same high school, which means you might need to alter your character's age...

To Truth Hurts: consider yourself accepted!

To kagescorpionakki: hmmmm. I find myself dealing with a problem. Deadpool can be an interesting character, but the problem with him is that in more recent years, he has devolved into a quasi-joke that is highly overused... this problem relates to his knowledge of the fourth wall, in that it can be an interesting mechanic when dealing with, say, the ideas and tropes of comic books, but whenever he talks to the audience it just gets to be too much. How will you play it?

To Oh Boy Time: consider yourself accepted!

To KR_Vandal: will he astound us with his yoyo skills? Consider yourself accepted!

To Serendipital: like the others, consider yourself accepted!

All accepted characters, please head to the discussion thread!

He definitely won't talk to the players. Benedict keeps his fourth-wall breaking secret, both because he's afraid of having to explain it to a therapist and because he doesn't want others to have to deal with being fictional.

He and his head voices may make passing mentions of something that was typed, but they will definitely be much less over-the-top about it than Deadpool is. If it's still too much I can always go with my backup plan and change his powers to Wolverine's.

  • Name: Anna Fell
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: she noticed you
  • Personality: Studious. Driven. Charming and popular. Ellen is that one person that everyone knows is going to Stanford, Harvard... the works, given that she takes advanced classes, occupies a spot on the council, volunteers semi-regularly, etc. She tends to err on the side of authority, routine, and familiarity. Surrounded by the same friends, going to the same spot at the library... the works. These new powers frighten her. More terrifying is knowing the rage of others, threatening to overwhelm and consume her.
  • Powers: From Atrocitus. She is in possession of a Red Lantern Ring, which has effectively replaced her heart, and allows her a variety of abilities. She can spew out rage plasma, a burning napalm-like substance that is rage-laced blood, create constructs, fly, absorb or induce rage in other beings, or see the source behind other beings' rage. However, because she does not have great rage in her heart, the red power ring's effects are much weaker than usual.
  • Backstory: She comes from an upper-middle class suburban family. Anna's parents instilled in her the good old values of hard work, a good education, and a stable life. A combination of good looks, good life, and good parents has allowed her to skyrocket to the top of the social ladder at school. Otherwise, there is not much to write about. Vice-principal of the student council, 2350 on the SAT test, the works. Boring in its achievements.

Name: Cornelius Hawking Gender: Male

Age: Seventeen

Appearance: Standing five foot nine with green eyes and pigmentless white hair, Cornelius is otherwise a physically average light-skinned young man. He commonly keeps his hair short and shaves his face, either completely or leaving a bit of stubble. In addition, he commonly wears combinations of white & black, such as a short-sleeved black shirt over a thin white hooded jacket. For easy reference, just look at these. Of note, he tends to wear a cross necklace at all times.

Personality: Cornelius is someone who comes cross as quiet, calm, and uninterested in others. He's actually deeply intrigued in learning more about things and people (thus a diligent student & willing aid), to the point he came across several personal epiphanies: That he is fully in control of deciding his reactions, that people will fight over the littlest of things, and that all of existence is a paradoxical thing. However, his revelation that all possibilities must eventually come to past and that lives don't inherently have purpose has led him to adopt a more sociopathic & manipulative personality, ultimately resulting in him dismissing humanity as a whole as monstrous fools that don't want to help themselves. Despite that outlook, Cornelius sincerely wants to improve humanity, though is conflicted on what's best. If only he had superpowers, then he could truly accomplish things...

Powers: Obtaining the powers of Madison Jeffries, Cornelius is able to technokinetically manipulate & restructure metal/glass/plastic in addition to technopathic communication with artificial intelligences.

Backstory: Born to a rather ordinary family, Cornelius experienced few things that others would not have. His parents had relationship trouble ending with a divorce, he ended up in foster care after his father was deemed an unfit parent, and along the way to ultimately living with his mother lost multiple friends. The lost of all these friends motivated Cornelius into being less open, with him ultimately rejecting friendship after having a "friend" telling people that they're responsible making for his middle school characters. Being forced into a different school by his mother after his outburst, Cornelius quietly focused on his school work, achieving quickly so he could get back to his creative work.

Eventually, as he researched and wrote more, he began to calm down regarding socialization as he learned epiphanies. Deciding to volunteer for supportive roles within his classes and joining creative and/or intelligent clubs such as Writing, Drama & Chess, Cornelius became much more open yet still rather emotionally mysterious. One of his notable duties within the school is helping with the library, where he'll carefully organize all the books alphabetically and make sure they're all in place for the next school day. Still, on the surface, nothing about Cornelius seems all that unordinary.

  • Name: Barbra Dixon
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Like this.
  • Personality: Barbra is a very competitive person, be it in sports or something as simply as a game of hide and go seek. She will find the competition in pretty much anything, and will go to lengths that might damage her friendship just to say she won. Essentially, she loses herself on the game, because that's where she feels the most comfortable. Outside of the game, Barbra goes to incredible lengths to shut others out, snapping at them for the smallest things, giving excuses to every outing suggestion, anything. Truth is, Barbra doesn't feel comfortable being herself. She often separates her identity into who she is outside the game and inside the game. Inside, she is a confident leader, someone who knows how to take charge and inspire others despite a tendency to go overboard. Outside, she is a shut-in who rejects others... because she rejects herself. Barbra outside the game is a failure to Barbra inside the game, and she doesn't feel comfortable anywhere. But the worst thing? The worst thing is that she just doesn't know why.
  • Powers: The powers of Doomsday. She will initially begin with just one power: Doomsday's unique physiology, in that whenever she dies, Barbra returns completely invulnerable to the thing that killed her before. So if she gets shot, her body returns with tougher skin, and on, and on, and on. That does not mean she can't be knocked out, put in stasis, the whole shebang.
  • Backstory: Barbra's father raised her by himself ever since she was three, when her mother abandoned him due to not loving him anymore and deciding that tying herself to a man so soon was a mistake. So from the beginning Barbra has had a distrust of fellow girls and women, fueled even more by her father being the strongest figure in her entire childhood, having two jobs just to get enough money to eventually put his little girl to college. Barbra eventually decided to demonstrate to her dad that she was just as strong as him, which led to her starting to practice several sports- her true calling. These days, Barbra's routine consists of class, sporting activities up until sundown, then a jog back home for homework and some videogames.
