Uh...cool?
I haven't really followed the Guitar Hero series since the third one. From what we've heard so far at least you don't have to stretch out your pinky to hit the orange fret. That was always a pretty tricky thing for me to do as a young'un.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.Yes, Guitar Hero is back!
...Now just bring DJ Hero back.
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!I'm glad Guitar Hero is back, but it feels to me Activision is just trying to make a Quick buck with it. It doesn't help that the game will (somehow) be on Mobile and will include a song by Skrillex (Yes, the Skrillex). I don't wanna bash on the guy too much; I'm sure he makes good electronica (Which I don't care for), but does he have any song that's really Rock? Does he have any song that uses the Guitar Extensively? I always assumed he was much more a Keyboard/Synth/Drum Machine/Music Program kind of musician.
Still, I like the Concept of Live Footage and using Music Videos for Backgrounds (I had the MV idea when GH and RB were killed off). I also like this 6-button Guitar (If done properly). I just don't know if Activision is using Guitar Hero properly...
he's done a few songs with Guitar parts to them (Kyoko, Take U There, Shred or Die) but nothing with the kinda of blazing fast solos you tend to think of when you think "Guitar Hero."
Maybe he's gonna do a song for the game and they're just staying mum on the topic for now?
On one hand, it's cool that they're trying to make a game closer to its name than in games released after GH Aerosmith, what with focusing purely on the guitar and all. On the other hand, there's quite a few unknown elements to this reveal that makes me wonder how well it'll all work together, and if it'll be good enough to take on its own rather than have us wish they took the "Warriors of Rock version 2.0 with all the instruments removed except guitar" approach.
To be honest, I think people started abandoning Guitar Hero for rock band specifically because Harmonix kept their series a fun party game, while Neversoft was obsessed in oneupping itself in the "how absurdly difficult can we make each game" pissing contest.
I didn't play any of them after 3, but didn't the last game until Live have a soundtrack that, by the end basically consisted entirely of Jordan/Through The Fire and Flames type tracks?
The way I see it, FSG is playing it safe with the difficulty in order to appeal to a demographic outside of Score Hero savants. After all, if they were Running the Asylum we'd get shit like "Guitar Hero: The Dillinger Escape Plan", the removal of everything besides Expert+ and making it so anything besides Full Combing is a failure.

Warriors of Rock had a fairly balanced setlist that ran the gamut from easy to TTFAF level hard and everything in between, but not all tracks are the latter. Last I checked, there were only like 5 or 10 tracks that can be considered truly TTFAF level out of the 90 or so it had. Incidentally, all the hardest tracks in the game are neatly put into one setlist that unlocks after beating Quest Mode for the first time.
Some songs from the setlist have been revealed, with more to come in the later weeks. Here's the list:
- The Black Keys - "Gold on the Ceiling"
- Blitz Kids - "Sometimes"
- Ed Sheeran - "Sing"
- Fall Out Boy - "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)”
- Gary Clark, Jr. - "Don't Owe You a Thang"
- Green Day - "Nuclear Family"
- The Killers - “When You Were Young"
- The Lumineers - "Ho Hey"
- My Chemical Romance - "Na Na Na"
- Pierce the Veil - "King for a Day (feat. Kellin Quinn)"
- The Rolling Stones - "Paint it Black"
- Skrillex - "Bangarang"
- The War on Drugs - "Under the Pressure"
- Black Veil Brides - "In The End"
- Rage Against the Machine - "Guerrilla Radio"
- Judas Priest - "Breaking the Law"
- Pantera - "Cowboys From Hell"
- Sleigh Bells - "Bitter Rivals"
- System of a Down - "Chop Suey!"
- Alter Bridge - "Cry of Achilles"
- Alt-J - "Left Hand Free"
- Broken Bells - "Leave It Alone"
- Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Higher Ground"
- The Pretty Reckless - "Going to Hell"
Some of these songs may look familiar. That's because 5 of them came from previous Guitar Hero games.
Ok reveal so far, I guess. People who want metal are already calling foul on this setlist, maybe for a good reason.

Bangarang is not really a guitar tune though.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWas not expecting an Uno-Dos-Tre Green Day track there, but my best friend will be happy about that.
Well, uh... it has a guitar in the intro! That's something, right?
It ain't wub hero.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI mean, technically Skrillex was a guitarist before he went into electronic music.
Besides, it's not like these games haven't had clear "putting this in just to make people outside of our typical demographic buy the game" tracks before (e.g. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus).
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I know, I'm messing about. But I do wonder how that's even going to sound.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project"Sing", "Na Na Na", "Best Day of My Life", "Oh Love", "Don't Owe You a Thang", "Little Talks", "In The End", and "Before He Cheats" are only DLC songs.
Amazing discoverySpeaking of songs, the setlist has been updated several times since the last time I posted in this thread. Here, have a look.
Even more new GH tracks have been revealed early by Gamespot. they are:
- Queen — "Tie Your Mother Down"
- Alice In Chains — "Stone"
- Bullet For My Valentine — "Temper Temper"
- Deap Vally — "Lies"
- Wolfmother — "Sundial"
- Weezer — "Buddy Holly"
- Angus & Julia Stone — "A Heartbreak"
- Catfish and the Bottlemen — "Kathleen"
- Neon Trees — "Everybody Talks"
- New Politics — "Harlem"
...You know, at first I was vowing to stand by this and withhold all judgement until it came out, but honestly the more I think about it (and the more I hear about Rock Band 4) the more it all falls apart. It's just going in the exact opposite direction of what I'd actually like to see form a new GH. In fact, I'm willing to bet that the best thing about it is that it'll make me appreciate the Neversoft G Hs more.

On my wave, passing oooooooonWhy is that?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. Some Expert level gameplay on the new GH, complete with hands view on the new guitar controller:
I've bought every Guitar Hero game since the third one except for the Aerosmith edition. I was devastated when Activision cancelled the series, but after I heard that they were reviving the series, I instantly preordered the 360 version of Guitar Hero Live.
It reminds me of high school, where I would play Guitar Hero/Rock Band with two of my best friends. I usually played bass in multiplayer, and guitar when I was alone.
Wanna know how I used the guitar controller? I used my thumb on the orange note, as if I were playing the piano.

Amazing discoveryIs it just me, or is venue #2 a design throwback to the first venue in Guitar Hero III?
Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about. Some new songs have been confirmed for the game, as revealed in Gamescom. They are:
- Megadeth – Hangar 18
- In Flames – Deliver Us
- Boston – More Than a Feeling
- You Me At Six – Lived a Lie
- Blink-182 – The Rock Show
- Rush – Limelight
- Kasabian – Club Foot
- Dream Theater – The Looking Glass
- Royal Blood – Come on Over
- Charli XCX – Famous
- Passion Pit – Take a Walk
- Panic! At the Disco – Girls/Girls/Boys
- James Bay – Hold Back The River
- Echosmith – Cool Kids
- MGMT – Time to Pretend
- Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire
So after Harmonix decided to push Rock Band 4 I suppose it's Activision's turn to show their new take on the plastic instruments genre eh?
Anyways, here are the key points - New Guitar controller with only 3 buttons horizontally, but each fret is actually 2 buttons vertically so its a 3x2 grid of buttons instead of a 5x1 grid (likewise this breaks compatibility with the old controllers) - The "stage backgrounds" are both all in a first person perspective and consist of live action videos. Yes, not "realistic style 3D", no we're talking straight up Westwood Studios-ass live action FM Vs. - Multiplayer is now structured similar to MTV or a radio station, where you "tune in" and play the exact song at the exact same time as everyone else "tuning in" to play (note that this part seems to just use the music videos rather than the "band FMV" stuff)
It's............ interesting to say the least but, I dunno the gameplay I've seen so far feels less like an actual game reveal and more like some weird proof of concept.
