Seems pointless to even try as the latest ones are weeks old but I'll give it a shot.

edit. Downloaded and installing what AMD calls a hotfix. We'll see what happens next...

Be aware, folks, that there's already scams going round the net with "fixes" to this start-up problem, which is a big enough issue that Mankind Divided's page on Square's blog has it as number two on their list - don't install anything that isn't from Square itself - you'll probably get malware IF you're lucky.

edit

Nope. New hotfix drivers did nothing to fix the problem. I just hope I haven't screwed up the games I have that actually work by installing them.

edit

Refund pending. Nice. 39 pounds 99 pence going back in my Steam wallet. I'd rather have cash, but what can you do? I'll probably get the game again at some point.

OMG this game is so fun

Just noticed I havent eaten in 8 hours.

I guess I'm looking for a "play now!" or a 'wait until its launch issues are patched out and it goes on sale" recommendation.

8 hours in it's a solid play now from me. No major issue to speak off, myself.

[up]That's what I was hoping for too.

I'd be remiss if I didn't give my rating so...

Don't buy it until it's patched. Square obviously know there's something wrong or the issue I'm having wouldn't be number two on this list:

[up] Ouch, sorry man. That's the problem with PC launches these days, they do seem so fraught. My Tomb Raider is likewise a bit janky, but I've only had one game refuse to work and that's mainly due to it being clearly optimised for an earlier version of Windows.

Win 10 is a blight. A blight, sir!

When payday hits, this is going onto the account.

I think most of that is to do with the "breach" multiplayer / competitive bit.

But apparently the gear DLC is consumable - as in it only works on ONE save file. So, you start a new game, no gear DLC for you!

I love everything I've seen so far. The story seems a lot less, well, less expansive than HR was, but it still looks good. At least you give a damn about the antagonists this time.

Anyone know when the soundtrack comes out? Loving a lot of tracks, including the one at interpol hq and those combat tracks no one will ever hear.

Holy Grail, huh? Cool story, bro.

Penny Arcade weighs in on a question that must perplex us all... although I'm sure that fan fiction authors have long since beaten them to the punch.

If everybody is so eager to hack off their body parts and stick robotic parts on instead, what does that do to... you know, reproduction?

Sperm and ovum banks?

If I'm not mistaken, according to Word of God (JJB, the art director) Jensen still has his natural one. He doesn't trim, though. His augmented legs are only from the knee down.

Namir, on the other hand...

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

[up] Y Eah always wondered about Namir - he has a wife and kids, so.... somehow? Or was that just a body suit to look like flesh so he could ambush you? whilst flexing?

Or is it like that scene out of Space Truckers with Charles Dance.....?

Don't they mention Namir has a detachable penis in the commentary in the Human Revolution director's cut? Or they might have been joking, it's been a loong time since I bothered watching it.

Maybe he just went with the rest of the animal kingdom and turned his genitals into internal organs.

On that note, I actually like that hacking's much more of a challenge now and actually encourages you to use the items as compared to the first game.

I think I might need a better graphics card. There's something odd going on in the game: characters will speak, and then they'll pause and occasionally move their body around as if they were talking (though they'll be perfectly silent and their lips won't move).

Actually, it's kind of funny, since it makes everyone sound like they're having a really awkward conversation and are too embarrassed to talk. In fact, it took me a little while to realize it wasn't intentional (since the characters really are having awkward conversations).

I dunno. Retractable otherwise dangly bits would be an upgrade if you're getting involved in a lot of close quarter melee and unarmed combat - boots to the groin are a standard tactic of many martial arts and other self-defence programs, and getting kicked there, be you a male or a female, would normally be disabling - at least temporarily.

If there's nothing there to hit, that risk goes away.

Namir explicitly had children. It's part of his backstory in the novels. A daughter called Melina he named after his dead sister.

It's also implied he got her before he got augmented following the Pan-Arab invasion of Israel.

Finished the game. And well- that was... Something. Felt very much like the first game, and I mean VERY much. That's not really a bad thing, but I suppose I expected it to iterate on the mechanics a bit more.

I had a big write up about my feelings for the game but it vanished into the internet when I hit the post button. Here's the bullet points.

It feels like Mankind Divided caught the same annualized sequel illness that Assassin's Creed has. Not a lot of consequence happens. A few names are teased by everything seems to be designed to drag things out and flounder around even though we know where things are going to be by the time of Deus Ex 1.

They really ought to have set the game 10 years after Human Revolution instead of two. Then more of the players from DX 1 could be shown getting into position, it would have been more distinct from HR.

Why introduce a cast of characters like Pritchard, Sarif and Malik just to shove all of them out of focus? Why should I get invested in anyone at Task Force 29? Especially when a bunch of them feel like suspiciously similar substitutes.

As this iteration of Deus EX under Eidos gets fleshed out, the less the setting and world feels congruent with DX 1 and DX:IW. I just can't see the Illuminati of Mankind Divided coming up with a plan to use psionic alien clone shock troops.

It's like DX 1/DX:IW was X-Files and Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are the Jason Bourne movies; yes both deal with evil shadow governments but you'll never see Matt Damon fist fighting with Flukeman and I can't see Adam Jensen ever fighting a proto-Karkian.

All in all, I feel like Mankind Divided is just a rehash of Human Revolution gameplay wise, with a whole lot less meat story-wise, moving further away from the core feel of the series and towards a kind of generic "Tom Clancy-ness" to it all.

I'm interested to get this game and I want to hear the opinions of those who have played it. How good is it as an independent game and as a sequel? Is it going to give me a different experience from the prequel?

At the moment, it seems everyone said it's the same like the prequel. Is the new features that they showcase on the trailer not enough or implemented badly?

[up][up]I agree. It seems like the next Deus Ex game from Ubisoft is going to diverge entirely from the events of DX 1 and IW and become it's own continuity, there's just too much discrepancies by this point.

However... Invisible War did change the origin of the so called "Aliens". They're now human clones that were so heavily genetically modified to the point that they more resembled the 'Greys' than anything else.

[up]The TL;DR version (without any spoilers) is that it's more of the same, but improved. Very few major changes, save for how the equipping the augment upgrades work. You now have to choose which ones to keep active, and which ones to disable whenever planning on unlocking new upgrades. So if you enjoyed Human Revolution you'll enjoy this one, guaranteed.
