As do I. It's the best suggestion so far.

Yeah, the word "flair" really does capture what most of these restaurants are going for.

Could quote/image be of Hooters' slogan: "Delightfully tacky, yet unrefined"

[up] Hooters is not this trope at all and really its far more tacky than this trope as well.

Glad people like it!

I figured the image could be the one I linked from Office Space, if nothing better comes to mind — some caption about expressing your quirky individuality in order to conform to Corporate's casual dining experience strategy brand manual.

One of the examples mentions Olive Garden. To me, at least, it's a loose example at best. Am I alone in this opinion? Outback, for example, is another that I think is one the borderline. To contrast, Sizzler is not an example.

Olive Garden is probably one of the most successful versions of this. Everything is Italian themed, they play stereotypical music, sing happy birthday in Italian, have gratuitous italian on their menus, have specialty drinks with strange names that just sound Italian.

I honestly don't remember most of that. I guess I was too hung up on the decor part of the description. *shrug*

[up][up] Olive Garden isn't the sort of place that's portrayed in media, and it doesn't try to associate itself with this trope. It's pretending to be a higher class Italian place, but at a budget price. It's got a theme, yes, but only as much as a pizza place's theme is pizza. It's not the sort of place this trope is talking about, and if it's getting shoehorned in here, it means the definition still needs work.

I like the suggestion too :)

I agree that Olive Garden doesn't really fit the definition of the trope as we're defining it. For Italian, Buca di Beppo fits the trope. (If you've never been to Buca you can get a fairly accurate picture of what it's like from google image search, lol. Note that the dishes are meant to be shared family style so the portions aren't *quite* as alarming as they may appear.)

I noticed that in the crowner, the trope title is misspelled as ''TGI Chili Bees" instead of "T.G.I.O'ChiliBee's". It's probably too late to fix, but still.

As the single prop crowner seemed to settle down, it'll be called in favor of renaming. Prepared the Alt Names crowner, so it'll be hooked after the old crowner closes.

At least the trope's title is spelled correctly in the new crowner's title.

Since the votes have been stable, I'll call the crowner in favor of Kitschy Themed Restaurant.

Anyone able to move the page and migrate wicks/crosswick may do so.
