I'm going to be downloading since I know I'll want to have the game to hand basically forever.

Plus faster loads. cool

I have yet to get an SD card for my Switch, though honestly, I prefer to own physical copies of the bigger games, and the built in 32 GB is still a decent amount of space for those smaller download only titles. I never really got an external drive for my Wii U either and I still didn't really run out of space despite my sizable VC collection on there.

[up]In your case, I'd only imagine that could change if a game comes in with large DLC, or you need to download a large digital-only title.

Both of which are inevitabilities on the platform if the Switch gets continued third-party support.

I'm getting Mario Kart and Splatoon digitally. Nintendo games have small file sizes, so I can hold off getting an SD card. I'll probably need one soon after Splatoon though.

True, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it I guess. Worth noting that I had a good amount of DLC on my Wii U as well. Isn't it true that all the DLC for Smash 4 wouldn't even fit on the Wii U internal memory if you had that basic 8 GB model from launch, even if you had nothing else installed?

Yes, for games like Smash, the DLC is small.

We've gone over this before the system released - for other platforms, this is absolutely not the case and single games can regularly hit huge file sizes on just DLC. Nintendo is just good at keeping their games small.

Hell, IIRC the only Nintendo game whose DLC forced you into buying an external drive on Wii U was Xenoblade X for faster loading and nothing else.

Pretty much.

By the way, does the Switch use External Drives? Since I did in fact get one for my Wii U, I'm wondering if it'd be useful for the Switch as well?

No, you're limited to your Micro SD card. That's why I bought a 200GB one out of the gate, as it's the largest one without an absurd price tag.

Huh. Guess I'll use that Drive for my computer then.

Well, that was the plan if I couldn't keep it for my (eventual) Switch anyway, so it's no loss.

Also, isn't 32 gigs about the max for a tablet anyways?

Umm... no? A quick google found 256GB iPads, for example.

For a midrange one perhaps. There's bigger ones out there too. Hell, my phone has 64 GB.

Oh, I though that tablets have smallish storage space.

I think it was probably to keep cost from driving up too much.

It's Nintendo that doesn't want to drive up costs too much.

They still subscribe to the "console isn't a loss leader" model, and somehow, it sill works.

Seeing as how people bitched about the 300 USD price tag and said that was too expensive, they probably made the right call.

[up]Waxing is trying to say that Nintendo could have bumped up the storage, kept the price at $300, and just take a loss on each console sold. Y'know, like all of the other console manufacturers.

IIRC, the hardware divisions for both Microsoft and Sony Interactive bleed money. It takes a long time for them to turn a profit.

And even then, Nintendo still has them beat in terms of money. So it really does work.

[up] Both of those companies are a lot bigger and more diversified than Nintendo is, so they'd be better able to eat the losses.

Nintendo is primarily a game company. They need to sell at a profit.

Go figure, Mario Kart is finally out, and I'm definitely enjoying it and all, but now I'm craving more Splatoon. Maybe it's the Inkling racers.

Anyway, think we'll get any more testfires before Splatoon 2 launches? The original had at least two before it came out IIRC.

[up]Honestly, I can see it going either way. Nintendo might get lazy, or they could decide that it's a good idea to see how the servers handle things now, between the changes I'm certain they made since the initial Testfire, and the addition of MK 8 D to the network.

Random question. Does the Switch's battery drain faster if I use it in portable mode with the controllers attached?

Is the Nintendo Switch compatible with the Wii Mote, or any Wii hardware, for that matter? Can it play Wii games? What about Wii U? DS, or 3DS? Why should I buy one of these instead of a Wii U or 3DS?

The Switch is not compatible with anything before it since it uses cartridges for games and they're not the same ones as the DS or 3DS.

The answer to all of those questions is no. Although, Mario Kart 8 is available in its best form on the Switch.

As for why you'd buy a Switch over the Wii U or 3DS, that'd depend on what you're looking for.
